Frozen Four 2023: Three Blue Bloods and and Upstart

Future Frozen Four Sites (my list):

Tampa
Vegas
Nashville

Boston
St. Paul

Throw a bone to solid college hockey communities every so often:

Denver
Detroit

And take a run at MSG in New York but that doesn't seem likely.

Who went to Chicago? Was that worthy of another shot? As far as I'm concerned St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Philly and Buffalo can all take a hike.

This may be a pipe dream but if NY is ever in play they should consider UBS Arena. I'm an Islander season ticket holder. It's a spectacular new building. It's not in Manhattan so there is no bar and restaurant scene around the building but in every other way it's a fantastic venue.

Just because the second tweet was off doesn't mean the tweet from Jess was. The guy was clearly holding Cooley's stick. Both deserved a call but in the end it doesn't matter - Q dominated much of the game and earned the win.

When? When he was trying to get it out of his face and mask? Seems like a justifiable thing to do.

It wasn't at the beginning of the play when he was using is left arm to hold Cooley off. It wasn't when Cooley started to reach around his body and start a pretty clear holing call.

I guess you could call the fact that his helmet was kind of trapping Cooley's stick in his neck just before being thrown to the ground.

If anything, there were equal holdings going on, and the extra high stick on Cooley, as the QU player actually tried to keep his stick out of Cooley's face, very much unlike Cooley did.

But, as everyone has pointed out, that call isn't why Minnesota lost. They just stop trying to score once QU put pressure on them. Or QU's nerves died down and they got into their system solidly, and MN was taken aback by the fact that they just got back into their faces.

IMHO, if QU played the whole game like they did the 2nd half, which is how they played us for the whole game, it would have ended the with the same result in regulation time. They are just that good.

I tend to agree. Quinnipiac got off to an awfully shaky/nervous start. Minnesota took advantage and got a quick lead. However, once the Bobcats started to settle in and get into their game, the Gophers had no answer. It brought to mind the old Mike Tyson quote: "everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth." Well, last night the Gophers punched first. But when Quinnipiac punched back, UMN cowered into a shell. FWIW, it nearly worked.

They showed on screen that coverage would continue on ESPN+ but they had the same feed as the deuce. Very upsetting to this Q fan.

Very upsetting to this college hockey fan. Shows where hockey in general and college hockey in particular stand in the Disney/ESPN empire.

When are people going to actually accept that the only reason we see this at all on ESPN is because of college football.

Had the game ended in regulation, I'm betting more celebration would have been seen, but since it went to OT, Disney put more into their regular schedule. JUST LIKE when a regular season lacrosse game pre-empted a tournament game. They show it because they have to, not because they like it.

This is an unpopular take, but I don't see Tampa as a slam dunk to continue hosting. It's fine, but nothing spectacular. Oppressive heat/humidity, comparatively limited hotel options, have to drive everywhere with no public transit, many things closed after the game nearby. It's fine, but there are better destination spots - Nashville and Las Vegas in particular. I would not be upset if Tampa was not a future FF site.

Oh, I do indeed accept that as stark reality. Doesn't mean I have to like it. And I'm aware of the contractual obligations. But since cable and streaming platforms are supposedly starving for content, I'm a bit surprised that ESPN doesn't take at least some modicum of initiative and go beyond the bare contractual bones.

I haven't been but from everything I see and hear about Tampa I think you're in the minority. Always looks like a great atmosphere too. I guess I don't care if it's dropped provided the other places deliver. Drop Buffalo from consideration. I think it would be harsh to drop Tampa at this point.

It could be dumber...I was just watching the pregame TNT crew before the Bruins v Flyers game and the did a snippet on the Qpac set play winning the game. Guy on the far right side of the four, "Their fans were going crazy, wearing their school colors. I didn't go to college so I don't know what that's like, but it looked great."

Hey ESPN…it’s time to give up your abysmal coverage of the NCAA men’s D1 college hockey tournament. First of all, NO ONE watches you anymore. No one cares about the NBA and it’s 187-178 scores. You can’t even put the post game on one of your 16 affiliates? Like ESPNU or ESPN3? The fact you left Dave Starman off the broadcast team is a disgrace. Mary Melrose is an absolute embarrassment to your organization. He knows NOTHING about cawledge hawkey. The way you treat the sport is shameful. Now I will go back to boycotting your network as usual. ESPN….the Lebron Network.

There was also an incredibly soft hooking penalty called on Quinnipiac in the third period. The Cooley penalty was pretty clearly a make-up call. There should never be make-up calls, either they're penalties or they're not, but I understand (and thank) the officials for calling it after taking two minutes away from our comeback on the soft call they made on Brind'Amour in the third.

How do you let all the other stuff go and you call that? Worst call I’ve seen all year to be honest…….he should be embarrassed after seeing the tape

Nashville hasn’t been, nor is it likely to be a candidate any time soon. Nashville hosts the SEC basketball tournament along with concerts and other events. And the NHLis gearing up for the playoffs and the Predators need prime dates there.
