Frozen Four 2023: Three Blue Bloods and and Upstart

Western fans never gave Quinnipiac any credit the whole year. They're imposters, they didn't play anybody, weak high school schedule, yada yada yada. Ohio State-check, Michigan-check, Minnesota-check. You got anybody else? At the end of it all the BIG$$ is left with poop running down their leg! Oh and the EZAC owns Minnesota!

North Dakota played both Quinnipiac and Minnesota in the regular season. Back to back weekends even. If we didn't know before, UND fans knew after that QU was going to make noise in the tournament.

2002 called - it said to get over it and stop living vicariously through other programs.

Kepler has already pointed this out, but just to reiterate:

National Champions last decade 2013-2023

NCHC 5 (Denver 2, Minn Duluth 2, North Dakota)
ECAC 3 (Yale, Union, Qpac)
HE 2 (Umass, Providence)
Big10 0
CCHA 0
Atlantic 0
Independent 0

ESPN2 really pi*sed me off switching over to Sportscenter too soon after the end of the game making me miss the awards and troph presentations!

Congrats to the Cats! Went to bed after regulation 1)Figured OT was gonna be an all-nighter and B)I'm old. Looking back I probably coulda make 15 minutes and 10 seconds.

There’s a lot to comment on this, but I’ll just present three tweets and say that I’m filing them away under “Gopher hockey exceptionalism, where what makes something a travesty really only comes down to whether or not it hurts the Gophers specifically, and we’re not just talking about the rubes”

Just because the second tweet was off doesn't mean the tweet from Jess was. The guy was clearly holding Cooley's stick. Both deserved a call but in the end it doesn't matter - Q dominated much of the game and earned the win.

Curiously what do you find so incredulous about the fact some fans (perhaps) reacted poorly to a heartbreaking loss? And apparently only fans of this team would ever react in this way right?

At GPL there isn't one person blaming the loss on the Cooley penalty even if many disagree with it. The opinions on the loss range from bad coaching, to the players panicking, to Close uncharacteristically letting in a weak goal or two. To act as if venting in the moment is such a bizarre thing for people to do is itself quite bizarre.

I really don't think that penalty like the penalty in the first minutes of the game had any bearing on the outcome.

This Gophers team reminds me so much of the Holy Cross debacle. Regular Season champions couldn't get it done in the playoffs. I use the term Minnesota Sports and Lynx Fans and UMD fans get upset. Call it the Big 7 in the state sports then for the Minneapolis Market. Gopher Football, Basketball, and Hockey. And the 4 men's professional teams. None of them can get it done when there's hardware on the line.

That might have been the greatest team Minnesota ever assembled last night. 1989 team comes close. Both lost. To ECAC schools winning their first championship.

I'd argue that winning so much in the regular season bores you for playoffs but then I remember Alabama football, or New England Patriot football.

That was an epic collapse last night. It will always be remembered.

The one saying "Cools was absolutely mauled" is quite hilarious. Just a complete alternate reality.

I know, and I believe you. I don’t mean to say that to impugn all of you, it’s a normal thing that lots of fanbases have and you expect it from a certain percentage of the rubes, as opposed to the normal level-headed fans like you.

But it is funny (and sort of fits the stereotype) whenever that attitude metastasizes into the official channels.

The one saying "Cools was absolutely mauled" is quite hilarious. Just a complete alternate reality.

To borrow a phrase from one of my favorite podcasts: it’s a self-contained opinion bubble

There was also an incredibly soft hooking penalty called on Quinnipiac in the third period. The Cooley penalty was pretty clearly a make-up call. There should never be make-up calls, either they're penalties or they're not, but I understand (and thank) the officials for calling it after taking two minutes away from our comeback on the soft call they made on Brind'Amour in the third.

And I disagree with whatever value system ranks programs like Michigan and Denver so high. I'm a huge cfb fan, and obviously the creator of this ranking system is not. Because NONE of the cfb fans I talk to would EVER let me get away with using Natl Titles from lifetimes ago to bolster the all-time ranking of the Gopher football program up into the Top 10, like it would if those titles were looked at on equal standing as modern titles.
As I said, IIRC the formula counts recent titles more heavily. That said, in many of your posts you are arbitrarily using 50 years as a cutoff, conveniently just before Minnesota won their first National Championship.

As for Minnesota's football championship comparison: 1) 5 of the 6 were before the NCAA started what is now known as the Frozen Four, so more than 75 years ago, and 2) college football didn't have an actual tournament until very recently. Before then the polls picked the champions. Oh, wait, you keep going on how Minnesota was #1 in every single poll so you obviously think that the poll voters should decide the national champion and not some playoff tournament that allows the best team to lose on the ice (in both of their tournament championships).

But that is what all of you people who love to prop up Michigan and Denver do, you expect us to consider titles from the 40s and 50s and 60s to be considered equivalent to titles won during most of our lifetimes.
First, I'm not one of "you people who love to prop up Michigan and Denver." I dislike Michigan very much, along with North Dakota, while I'm neutral about Denver. I used to like Minnesota and I've meet many great Minnesota fans, some in person and some on-line. However, this year not so much.

And is there a single NCAA Div 1 College Hockey team not located in America?

So why is it considered such a good thing when programs rely on older Canadian players to win titles? Traitorous much?

I'm not saying the occasional Canadian and/or European isn't ok, but loading up your team with foreign talent? I'll never respect this, EVER.
I'm not sure what your problem is with Canadian players, and calling it traitorous to have them on a team is extreme. However, your comments clearly show why you hate Denver so much, as you were clearly influenced by Minnesota's past complaints of unfair play by Denver under Coach Armstrong. However, to the best of my knowledge that complaint was never made against Michigan, so I'm a bit confused by the rage against them.

What happened to the guy that used to remind us about Minnesota relying on players from Minnesota? I wonder what he thinks about a soon to be 25 year old from Saskatchewan between the pipes...

Or the fact Logan Cooley is from PA, Knies from AZ, Eiserman from MA. The Gophers are going all out to end this 20+ year drought!!!
