Frozen Four 2023: Three Blue Bloods and and Upstart

Also, in full disclosure, I live in DC and want it in my back yard again now that I have a positive number for income and could afford to get tix.

Navy was the host along with DC Sports Consortium. I've no idea if they have the will to try again.

I have a vague recollection that DC applied the first time after they hosted, but I don't recall them being mentioned at subsequent times that bids were submitted Perhaps the problem is that Navy appears not to be interested in starting a program but were when they hosted.

BTW, I live in DC.

This! All of it. Stifle the public address announcer cheerleading not the bands. This is the pinnacle of college hockey. Bands and undergrad cheers/chants are a big part of the atmosphere. Stop trying to turn the college atmosphere into the pro atmosphere. I do understand the need to limit band sizes but the cap of 25 pieces per band in a 19,000+ venue IMO is unreasonable.

Co-sign! Let them bring 50 and create a little atmosphere. This is one of the reasons I love attending the Beanpot. Three full bands (and whatever you call that "thing" Harvard brings) blasting away. Good times. Heck the BU band has experience marching on the ice. LET'S GO!!!! : )

So who will pick up the check for rooms, meals, etc., for another 25 people?

Bingo. Someone has to pay for all of that. The NCAA only picks up the tab for 25, inclusive of the tickets they give the band for free. For reference, the tickets for player comps, familiar, and administration are not free - they must be purchased by the university and are taken from the measly 500 total each school is allowed to purchase.

That's another bone of contention I have with the FF as a whole - just over 10% of the tickets are allocated to the four schools. That makes for a depleted atmosphere due to the high number of neutral people in the building, and it raises the prices for the secondary market if team(s) with a big following make it and keeps out fans of those teams.

I think it's a pretty big assumption that schools would fill a larger allotment on such short notice. Depends on the school obviously. But even a lot of diehards won't end up going on that short notice if their team makes it. Maybe that's different for football and men's basketball, I don't know. I would be willing to see what it looks like with an increased allotment to the 4 schools. But as long as the building is full I don't think we can ask for much more than that. What's so bad about having people there who like to go every year?

Each team for the Final Four this year got 3,600 tickets plus an additional 600 for students, though those are rarely all used. Either way, that comes out to about 25% of the stadium for the 4 teams, depending on total capacity.

I don't see a reason why increasing the total allotment to 1,000 per school would be an issue. There's 10 days to sell it, and if you put the event in a location that is either close to some schools, or a location people want to travel to, it's doable. I know this year, all but one of my friends who are BU season ticket holders even considered buying FF tickets through BU because we knew we wouldn't get them, including folks who've had season tickets for over a decade.

I don't think upping the band limit to 50 would break the bank. And some schools have either very small bands or no bands at all. Bands aside, allocating ~10% of the tickets to the competing schools seems parsimonious.
