D1 tryouts

Re: D1 tryouts

This is quite a day when Hux joins the smack-down. And I thought I was the only nice guy who lost patience with the obvious problem posters...

I could use a whoopie-pie right now...

Ask and you shall receive! ;)

You know, Iceisnice is usually quite nice too.

But every now and then someone comes along and types something that is just so completely sophomoric and asinine that it manages to bring out Iceisnice's evil twin, the seldom seen IceisPreachyandMean.

Throw a flag, penalize me 10 for "piling on"! And then someone please tell me how it is that the parent of an Ivy Leaguer can be so profoundly dim-witted so as to throw his/her daughter's current coach under the bus on a public forum and think that any good can come from it whatsoever?

The mere existence of this thread blows me away. Can't we have more quality posts, like those found on the Whoopie Thread or the BC Thread?
:p

Shame on you, you live in the home state of the Moon Pie. When in search for comfort food, you, of all people, should be reaching for a delicious moon pie and a RC Cola.:D

Before any of you "major english grammar obsessed people" start critiquing my use of the english language and the poor attempt at correct punctuation, let me just say, I don't give a rats A.$.S. ;)

Re: D1 tryouts

FYI: Not a Brown parent - simply stating the obvious.

Well you may want to do a little home work before commenting on why Coady is at Brown rather than with the Bruins. Common knowledge to most of us who hang around the rinks.

As far as yelling is concerned. Know of quite a few D1 coaches who are leaders in their field who are known as yellers. While my personal approach is to be a motivator rather than a yeller on the bench, some players respond better to the yelling approach. And let's face it, all of those/us who play(ed) the game have been in the "heat of the moment" at one time or another.

English should always be capitalized! :p

When's the Moon Pie / Whoopie Pie exchange going to happen?

So sorry:o I ate all the whoopie pies while waiting for Hux to update me from Conte on the progress of last week's BC - Syracuse game. So sad:mad:

OnMAA: Yelling may work with the men's teams but it has never been an effective management style in girls' hockey. My approach is to treat my players with respect and I get far better performance from them. I've produced some good players and I've never beat up on them.
I know why Coady isn't with the Bruins anymore, do you? Why his sudden interest in women's teams?

Re: D1 tryouts

I think you misread it.

I had to read it a few times since I originally thought, as well, that a double negative had been used but that is not the case. What is being said is "wouldn't it be unusual if there was NOT a higher rate of attrition"...in other words "wouldn't it be unusual if there was a lower rate of attrition".

Two negatives are being used but they each modify separate verbs that pertain to different subjects. What is unusual is the way the thought was expressed but there is certainly nothing wrong with proper English...it's actually preferable to the lazy way many of us speak.

Well, if nothing else we have established that a Brown education is not necessary to master the English language.

As for Coach Murphy being the scapegoat for the ills of the Brown program, I'm sure there is some culpability there. She has a very no nonsense, old school approach that is not for everyone, especially in this age of everyone gets a trophy.

However, the vast majority of blame can be laid in other quarters. I know that the assistant coaches were paid a pittance, the recruiting budget was not comparable to other programs, and the determinants for financial aid were vastly different from those at other Ivy League schools. All resulting in fewer top level players than the program was accustomed to, even as recent as five years ago. While the women's hockey landscape has changed, the philosophy coming from the old library has not.

So if you want to sling mud, you need to sling it higher up the food chain.

Really, always?!?! What if I was to say, "The pitcher but a lot of english on the ball when he struck the runner out? :D

Moon Pie/Whoopie Pie exchange should be arranged sometime this year.

Don't worry about me checking your grammar. Here in the frozen north it's cold (-5c tonight). Ask your D how she likes the weather now. Looks like some big recruits coming to your D's school from the land of the maple leaf. More on that after Nats in BC.

So I've heard and not gonna lie, it is exciting. -5, is that all. That's a tad bit chilly:eek:

I'll admit to not knowing anything about the inner workings at the Bruins, other than that two of your best players, the coach and the GM all used to live, play and in some cases hail from the town nearby up here in the north.

Coady's reason for being at Brown is that one of his children attends school there.

One of the most famous female coaches of a top notch female PWHL team in in the PW was well known as a yeller. She retired after winning the PWHL championship with her team a few years ago. She coached the same team for many years, build the program from scratch in a span of 8 to 10 years and retired while on top.

But, really, I'm notfromaroundhere. No state (except confusion) is my home.

Really, you should have my screen name, as you have lived in more states than I and truly home is where you hang your hat. :)

This is very true, but since your hat has been hanging in the land of Moon Pies, you got to show the love...:)

Re: D1 tryouts

All Ivies face similar financial restrictions with recruiting, however, Dartmouth, Harvard, and Princeton are all capable of being competitive..

There are clear differences in the financial capabilities of the ivies. It is a well known fact that Harvard and Yale have bigger endowment funds than the others, so in general they tend to have better FA packages, making it easier for them to recruit from a wider pool of applicants from the middle class compared to schools like Brown and Cornell.

Don't get me wrong, I have had my share of Moon Pies since moving here, but I like the whoopie pies they serve at my D's school better...

And actually, RC isn't the home drink in my current town. Not to give away my residence, but another more popular soft drink was invented here...

enquiring minds want to know? Cheerwine is an original from my current state and coincidentally was invented the same year of the Moon Pie and Whoopie Pie.

The answer is posted on that other forum where we can exchange private messages, as can't rep you the answer.
