D1 tryouts

Re: D1 tryouts

Clearly, this problem predated anything that happened on this forum And if comments on this forum are controlling the team's chemistry, then the team has a bigger problem then they know of, so give me a break! So am I wrong? What happened to the ECAC all-academics? Coincidence? I think not!

You are dead wrong. You think the kids are oblivious to what is posted here? Maybe, but I doubt it. Since you haven't managed to keep to yourself on this, and have posted here, it is highly probable that you are spouting off at the rink as well. You can bet they are fully aware there is an air of negativity floating about the stands. And that does negatively impact team chemistry. Your daughter will soon find herself on the outs. It's the way it works.

What may or may not have predated this season is history. It is a new season and your harping is only going to taint this season. It is time for you to bite your tongue. Let the coaches coach and the kids play.

Re: D1 tryouts

Keep this up and Brown will be for sure looking to add 1 more than planned to next years recruiting class. You don't think the coaches and players have enough issues to deal with on their own, without having an extra cancer on the sidelines they never forsaw?

Few players are so unbelievably talented that any coach will put up with nightmare parents to have them...and news bulletin.. you are definitely one of those here.

Amen. I still doubt that this person is actually the parent of a freshman on the team and that is why she is not worried. If she does in fact have a daughter on the team, it will be shortly lived.

No, You ARE dead wrong. I have remained silent at the games, cheering for my daughter and taking in the talk that permeates the stands. It is clear there is something very negative going on with the team and I have not contributed 1 iota to that conversation. I'm smart enough to keep my hockey parent mouth shut at the rink - but I'm a writer by night. That being said, what happened to the 4 all-academic ECAC players? Yes, I believe there is a cancer on Brown's team but I see it at the top, not among the players and certainly not among the parents.

Yeah but he or she did not send their kid to a school totally unaware of the fact that the team had tryouts. How could it be the parents with a group of parents as supportive as you. Your posts only prove one thing. Not all Ivy League students have Ivy League caliber parents.

Ivy Caliber? So far I'm not impressed. I'd take my State College degree anyday. It pays me 6 figures annually and I'm not so high up that my nose bleeds.

So what your saying is your State College degree enabled you to make a $300,000 mistake. I guess you did get what you paid out of your school. Well your head may not be high but your ego is as big as they come.

Haha, that's funny!

Okay, okay, I think everyone needs to have a whoopie pie and chill out!

ccookie, you say are a writer by night. Perhaps you ought to consider focusing more energy on topics other than college sports....perhaps authoring a good romance novel would ease your tension a bit!

I still say the moral of this story is just as it should be in all aspects of life; Darwinism, Survival of the Fittest. Who has the right to feel "entitled"? No one! Earn your keep, and if someone getting paid money to make decisions decides that you're not worth keeping, then you're not. Done... move on and find someplace else to fit in.

Just as in the working world, success is usually attributed to solid human chemistry. You're KILLING your team! How do you possibly see any of this perpetuating banter as being constructive?

Soon you'll have bifurcated any possible relationships for your daughter and her team and her coaches, creating an impossibly insurmountable dichotomy and an inveitable summation of her existence at one of the most prestigious universities in the world, let alone the country.

In the nicest possible way, and for your own benefit, please ask yourself... What are you doing?

PS, to USCHO Moderators, is it time to lock this thread and call it a day? Just a thought!

Re: D1 tryouts

I am really glad to see the Canadians come down and take roster spots.

Girls hockey is tough business and so many people think they are elite it's comical.

I really think it will send a wake up call that we need to get more kids involved
at a higher level.

The more Canadians the better at this point because the Canadians took a step back to find out why so many European players were leading scores in the NHL and there players were mainly the muckers.

TRUE ... I think its what we need to do load the rosters from North of the boarder get the changes made.

Skating first, skating second and, puck handling third then toss in at 100th who you know.

Of the players cut, they were given a task, and they didn't follow through. Adios. Simple as that.

Lock the thread? Because you don't like what I have to say? Funny, I read the forum rules and it mentioned nothing about checking my free speech rights at the door.
FYI, my daughter has not a clue that I am posting and I am comfortable with the fact that she never will. I asked a simple question at the beginning of the thread and apparently that has ruffled a few feathers. I do not interfere with the team dynamic nor do I spout my views at the rink. This is the place for discussion without involving the team. For those of you who support the coaches - good for you. I do not. In fact, I believe there's a high probability that my daughter may last longer than the coaches. If you are unhappy with my comments, please feel free to ignore them.

You don't speak negatively in the stands, but yet are readily doing so on a public forum. But it's okay, because your freshman player at Brown will not be affected. Really?

So are the masses saying Cookie should wait 4 yrs to speak of their experiences? What if it possibly prevents one player in the future from possibly making a mistake and not being at their "happy place"? While making a college decision should not only be about hockey, we all know that is more than 50% of the equation for most. If taking in all of the experiences of others helps make a better decision, I'm all for it.

Re: D1 tryouts

Yes, my daughter's good to go....Not looking so good for the team, however. We lost 8 to 1... Oh well, this is just a beginning - maybe things will improve.......

Congratulations! Have a good season!

Maybe Brown needs a better fight song....

UConn Husky, symbol of might to the foe.
Fight, fight Connecticut, It's vict'ry, Let's go.
Connecticut UConn Husky,
Do it again for the White and Blue
So go--go--go Connecticut, Connecticut U.
C-O-N-N-E-C-T-I-C-U-T
Connecticut, Conneticut Husky, Connecticut Husky
Connecticut C-O-N-N-U!

Yeah, I don't think Sean Coady is anything special. He's got a lot to prove anyway, at least at Brown. But thats just my opinion. Time will tell I suppose.

I've pretty much stayed away from this thread (its borderline about to implode) but yeah, I too am for freedom of speech and voicing your opinions (I'm not known around here for holding back much). Personally, I think for Brown to not take one of its athletic programs seriously, and support it adequately, is disrespectful not only to the the school and girls on the team, but to the ECAC and other confrences as well as all collegiate atheltes and teams in general.

My only hesitancy in this case is that the child of the spoken one will be negatively affected by this (definitely don't want that). As far as the team is concerned, well, many teams have faced public scrutiny in the past (comes with the territory) so I guess they will have to grow thicker skin and ignore it or somehow use it as motivation to their advantage.

Re: D1 tryouts

They were given a task, and they didn't follow through. Adios. Simple as that.

First of all, that's a bit cold. These are not bubble players that had a history of not following through on 'tasks'. They would not have been there in the first place had they not demonstrated the ability to develop themselves on and off the ice. They are smart young ladies. Perhaps the explanation is that they no longer saw the 'task' worth the effort.

As far as Cody goes, we've spoken to a number of D1 programs at this point so we have some reference. We were not at all impressed with him. He came off as a fast talking salesman type who immediately set off the BS alarm.

OMGosh, Radar, I had no idea of the amount of private support I have received, as I never thought to check. Well, I think discussion, good or bad, will help put the onus where it is due and if one kid benefits from what she has learned here - and I think more than one will - then I am grateful for having spoken up. Blind faith can be much more dangerous than speaking up for obvious wrongs. Good Luck to you.
