D1 tryouts

Re: D1 tryouts

OMGosh, Radar, I had no idea of the amount of private support I have received, as I never thought to check. Well, I think discussion, good or bad, will help put the onus where it is due and if one kid benefits from what she has learned here - and I think more than one will - then I am grateful for having spoken up. Blind faith can be much more dangerous than speaking up for obvious wrongs. Good Luck to you.

Here is the thing no one and I mean no one cares if your happy with the school or the program. It is not about you and your xxl ego. It is about your child and how hard she worked to qualify for Brown's academics and sports. If she is happy there you should support her endevors in private and in public regardless of what you think (see first line of post ). Bashing the school and team may be your idea of helping but I think it is a way to get attention for yourself. Be proud of what your daughter has done and stop your moaning.

Re: D1 tryouts

Just returned from watching Brown come back from a 1 goal deficit with 5 unanswered goals to take posession of the Mayor's Cup. I was quite impressed with Brown's play after a lackluster first period. They were as good as any team I've seen this year in the third. Even more impressive with the substandard:rolleyes:  coaching staff they are saddled with;) ;)

And three Rookies got on the board with a goal each.

Here is my message to the early naysayers...Take a step Back

You sometimes have to take a step backwards to move forward.
In real dire cases you have to take two step backwards before moving forward.
(The NHL Maple Leafs are a prime example of this).

IMHO Brown has started their rebuild with a completely new assistant coaching staff. Like any major change, to go back to the drawing board requires painful decisions, and an unwavering commitment by the leaders to stay the course. This is not for the weak and uncommitted. Looks to me not everyone is/was willing to ride this out.

So to all the negative Brown posters. Take a step back and let the season unfold. And to the parents of the players. Support your child rather than lambasting the team on here.

Just my two cents.

You might want to rethink using the Maple Leafs as an example that Brown may wish to emulate....the last time the Leafs won anything was 1967...and despite a number of attempts to retool in recent years they have yet to win a game this year.

Which reminds me of a couple of Leafs jokes making the rounds....

Whats the difference between a triangle and the Leafs?
Answer: A triangle has 3 points.

What do the Leafs and the Titanic have in common?
Answer: After hitting the ice, they both sink quickly.

The point of the Leafs analogy is about stepping back two or three paces before being able to move forward.

The leafs cleaned house sometime prior to last year. They actually did better than most expected last season. Now their deeply engrained past problems (poor scouting, stupid high priced one way or no trade contracts to overpriced players etc) hit them square in the face. The real hockey experts all know that the leafs did the right thing, and the same pundits agree it will be a hard year or two before you see a real turnaround.

Any righting of a sinking ship requires hard decisions that not everyone will be on board with (pardon the pun). Some will bail while the ship is sinking. Others will stand by until they sink with the ship or until they get pushed overboard. The strong and dedicated will work hard to repair the ship and they will survive and in many cases thrive.

Time will tell if Brown's attempt at a rebuild is a success. One win or one loss now is only the start of a journey that will be a long one with several ups and downs. As I said before, Parents need to take a step back. The players need to commit as a team to make this work. Everyone has a role to play. And while you are at it, enjoy the ride, celebrate the small successes and learn from the failures.

P.S. I've been part of building teams in the past. It is a great reward if you are succesful. You often learn more about oneself when you need to deal with failure.

Sorry for the Rant.

I don't disagree with any of your comments about the hard decisions and bumps in the road associated with being part of any rebuilding effort.

There are many good examples of successful rebuilds, and it is rarely easy getting there. However, the Leafs seem to have been in constant rebuild mode since 68 and have yet to find any real success. They seem to have been on a downward trajectory regardless, and this season continues to disappoint. I still question their ability to assess talent regardless of their most recent efforts to retool.I certainly wouldn't wish the Leafs track record on Brown....or anyone else! Even Union has improved over the past 2 years.

Nice to see Jamieson, Brown's excellent rookie goaltender, earn a big win behind the team the other night in the Mayor's Cup...just one indication Brown's assessment and acquisition of goalies alone is head and shoulders above comparable decisions the Leafs have been capable of making in the past few seasons ;)

Re: D1 tryouts

Trillium and 5 4 Fighting,

Thanks so much for the jokes, I texted them to my kid and they made her day! She spent last season playing in the CWHL and is now having a blast playing in Sweden. (I think she actually packed her Leaf's hat, so it makes it even better.) If you have any other hockey related jokes that you want to share please email them to me, I would love to send them her way. Thanks again for the laugh!

Hear about the Leaf's goalie.? So depressed after playing such a poor game. Left the arena and jumped in front of a bus.... and it went thru his legs.

News Flash....Leafs Won, Leafs Won...The Triangle can now be put to bed. :D

Re: D1 tryouts

The triangle is not quite asleep. As in "what do triangles and the Leafs have in common?" Or, "what are triangles and the Leafs likely to have in common in a month?"
