Cornell Big Red 2010-2011

Re: Cornell Big Red 2010-2011

What happened in the Princeton game - did not see it- 1-0 ---- That is scary!!!!! Where was the offense-

I think there was a number of reasons for low offensive production that game. First, I give Princeton lots of credit for clogging up the center of the ice and making it very difficult for Cornell to setup. Second, Weber played fantastic. Cornell had some great looks and she was definitely on her game. Third, Cornell looked a bit rusty. Passing was not as crisp as it has been or what it was on Saturday vs. Quinnipiac.

Re: Cornell Big Red 2010-2011

Princeton has a much better team than their record shows. Many of their games in the loss column have been by just one goal. the game could have gone either way and Cornell was only able to capitalize on a PP goal. Cornell had not played for a week and might have been a bit off their game. Webber played a great game giving Princeton the opportunity to steal the game, but they were unable to finish on the chances they did get.

Nice 6-0 win for Cornell against Niagara last night. Congrats to Catherine White on notching her 100th career point last night. She's the first Cornell player to reach that milestone in a very looooonnnng time.

Re: Cornell Big Red 2010-2011

The count is six instead of the expected eight. No Jenner or Johnston. Not sure if this is a HC strategy (playing other young talent) or if they elected to pass due to their other commitments.

As per HC's press release, players who were on the senior roster or centralized are not eligible. In addition to the 6, one could add Saulnier (the only non-NCAA player on the roster).

I noticed that Amanda Mazzotta is now listed as unable to attend the MLP Cup and has been replaced on the roster by UVM's Roxanne Douville. Does anyone know if that mean's Mazzotta will be playing for Cornell that weekend now?

I really doubt it. She is likely injured or with longer term illness.

Typically if a player opts out unless for above reasons, it is the kiss of death for them with Hockey Canada in future. Or if it is because their coach pressured them to opt out to play for their club team instead, it is then the kiss of death for that team in recruiting future HC-type prospects.

I was nervous that injury was the most likely scenerio. If she is injured, hopefully its minor and she'll be ready to go soon. I don't see her voluntarily passing on the opportunity nor Derraugh requesting that she pass on it.

Was there not a player last year that passed up a TC invite to play in an important college game? IIRC it was a player from UNH.

Years ago there was the famous (or should I say infamous) example of Nicole Corriero who elected to suit up for Harvard rather than TC-U22. There was a lot of fallout discussion in Ontario about that case.

Well, this answers that questions...http://www.hockeycanada.ca/index.php/ci_id/16980/la_id/1/ss_id/74006/nr_id/152801.htm. Hopefully, Mazzotta will be healthy and ready to go soon.

What happened to Mazzotta? Didn't she play in Cornell's last game vs Clarkson?

She did. Not sure what happened. Maybe last weekend's skate with the fans didn't go well? :D

In all seriousness, hopefully she will be ready to go soon.
