Cornell Big Red 2010-2011

Re: Cornell Big Red 2010-2011

If I'm not mistaken, didn't Dartmouth also have a player signed at the last minute too....from Quebec?????

If you want to make insinuations about others, don't forget to cast the same light closer to home as well.

Specially considering that that player in question was earlier listed as verballed to another school. !!

There are high profile late adds every year. Sometimes to ensure all requirements are met (including academic ones at ivy), sometimes cause the player takes their time deciding, sometimes cause some other commits falls thru and the purse strings open up again. Clearing house issues also lead to late adds.

Re: Cornell Big Red 2010-2011

Hard to let go of the feeling.

Comes around now each Fall-and I guess will for the next two years.

It is that we have two players 'signed' at the last moment who then in their first outing's dominate...and earn, in effect, 'player of the year', etc., awards at their position and propel their team, rocket-like, into a near win (for the very first time for an Eastern team) at the national championships!

I say if you weren't at least a little suspicious , wondering, you weren't paying attention or are blind to/will look the other way, as to level playing field considerations.

And I'd like to hear from anyone/everyone (else) who might also have 'feelings' as to ensuring/maintaining, 'level' playing fields (anywhere).

Likely I won't.

LPF, not only at Cornell but in all institutions in all countries from whence come these phenomenal and wonderful women players.

Done.

Both player commitments were announced on this forum in February of that recruiting year. It stands to reason that they committed to Cornell before it was announced here. While February certainly would not qualify as early, I don't think it would fall into the last minute category by any means.

Cornell player's invited to Hockey Canada's National Women’s Team evaluation camp:

Included on the roster are eight current members of the Cornell Big Red and two current members of the Clarkson Golden Knights. Big Red representatives include goaltender Amanda Mazzotta, defensemen Laura Fortino, Lauriane Rougeau and forwards Jessica Campbell, Brianne Jenner, Rebecca Johnston, Chelsea Karpenko and Catherine White of Cornell.

If you are talking about Rougeau signing late then you are mistaken. She made her decision to go to Cornell around Christmas in her recruiting year. That may be late by recent standards (considering Sophmores are committing) but by no means is it a last minute signing.

Re: Cornell Big Red 2010-2011

I have brought this up before.

Then (last year) I received more or less the same positive responses that I have herein received. I am cautious, yet, impressed by that, those responses-which are uniformly supportive of these two women and the program in Ithaca so far. I must be.

Who am I?

I am persuaded by an unbroken favorable public regard- must be, again, I think.

Re: Cornell Big Red 2010-2011/Martino

Personally, I would be shocked (very pleasantly) if Cornell did not lose a game this coming season. There are a number of other teams in the ECAC (Clarkson and Harvard imparticular come to mind) that will be very good. Many other teams have/will continue to improve. All in all, the season is too long and the competition is too good for me to predict an undefeated season for anyone this year.

While I think Cornell will win the ECAC going away, it will be really hard to go undefeated. At some point those eight U22 players will be missing for a week or two. Not sure when that is, but in the past it was in Late January.

Did you lose your secret decoder ring too? I can never find mine when I need it. :D

No sweat, I have a Magic 8-ball app on my phone. Here you go:

"Is there truth to what papulaisle says?"
-- Signs point to yes
"Is papulaisle ever wrong?"
-- My reply is no

For a veracity check, I asked:

"Should I ever argue with the Magic 8-ball?"
-- Spurs suck

As an Arsenal fan, I can verify the Magic 8-ball knows all. :)

Re: Cornell Big Red 2010-2011

First scrimmage is this Friday against Etobicoke. USCHO schedule has Cornell playing Mississauga on Saturday, but Cornell's schedule is showing Saturday is the red/white scrimmage. Anyone know if Mississauga is coming into town or not?

EDIT: I don't see anything on Mississauga's schedue for Saturday so I'm guessing not.

Re: Cornell Big Red 2010-2011

Looking forward to watching tonight's game. Not sure I'm expecting to glean much info from it, but it should be entertaining.

On an interesting side note, Meredith Roth is now a volunteer assist coach at Cornell.

Cornell wins 6-0. Shots were 53-8. I don't think I saw Karpenko or Karlee Overguard on the ice.

The team certainly has skill and the frosh all looked very solid. Jenner is pretty much a beast out there and Campbell can fly. It will be interesting to see what the line combo's are.

Looking forward to seeing more next weekend.

Re: Cornell Big Red 2010-2011

I was quite impressed with all of Cornell's frosh in the exhibition game. Jenner and Campbell are as good as one could hope any frosh would be, and Cook looks like she'll contribute nicely with solid speed and skill. Gagliardi and Cudmore both looked very solid on defense and capable of contributing offensively as well.

The lines for the scrimmage looked like the following:

Hughes Ogilvie A. Overguard
Campbell White Cook
Paulson Jenner Johnston

Fortino Rougeau
Young Gagliardi/Cudmore

Kapenko, K. Overguard and Hompe were all missing from the line up for the scrimmage. I would imagine that Paulson and Cook were filling in on the top two lines for Karpenko and K. Overguard.

So, unless things get juggled around completely, I would guess we'll something along the lines of:

Karpenko Jenner Johnston
Campbell White K. Overguard
Hughes Ogilvie A. Overguard
Cook Hompe Paulson

Fortino Rougeau
Young Gagliardi/Cudmore
