One more. Not quite as awesome but it was the only other BC game on ESPN360. I mean ESPN3.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

just watched the replay of all the goals on both games (thanks tonytiger) and of course remembered Atkinson with the two goals on backhanders in the final but had "misremembered" that he had a backhander for a goal in the semis vs Redhawks too.................3 of 'em in two games from one player is rather unique.......

One reason (among many) that I like college hockey more than the NHL is because you see goals of a type rarely seen in the pro game. The backhander seems to have gone the way of the Edsel in the NHL; so too those 'Phil Esposito' shots from the slot. BC had multiples of both in the FF.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

The other day I was at my girlfriend's school (Stonehill) and I saw some guy walk by me with a Sabres jersey. Then after he passed me I saw that it was a Drury jersey and I was appalled at the double fail.

Cavanaugh one of three finalists for the Ohio State job along with Mark Osiecki of Wisconsin and Casey Jones of Cornell (formerly of Ohio State).

Good luck to Coach Cav. I truly hope he gets it. But if he doesn't, I'll be glad he'll be around BC for at least one more season.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

York was just on the 1st period intermission report of the Bruins game. He said that they'd just retire the nameplate and not the sweater number, because he didn't want to waste any "good hockey numbers." I love how he's old-school like that.

Saw that as well. Those of us that have pics of that #17 banner have a novelty of sorts, as we won't see that hanging at Kelley Rink this fall.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I had the NCAA selection show dvr'd and I watched it again and just chuckled when I saw that not a single one of those guys picked BC to make it to the Frozen Four...

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Even funnier was Melrose saying UND had to win the Final Five to get in the tourney.

Meant to ask this, but any reason Logue wasn't at the celebration?

Bob Norton would have, and he'd be 'basking in the glow' himself today. Yeah, he's an unabashed Hockey East homer. But for the past three years, he'd have been right.

Norton probably would have picked UNH to win the national title... :D

I live in NH and would love to see them win a NC if BC couldn't, but that program seems to have bad Karma written all over it when the NCAAs roll around. Even Norton must sense that by now.

Good luck to Cav as well. Tough competition, as Osiecki is highly regarded (almost a western version of Cav) and Jones spent time at OSU. He deserves a chance to run a major program, hope this works out.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

reading this stuff about Michigan already selling 80,000 tickets to the outdoor game vs Michigan State made me think, for once:eek: I wonder if BC has ever thought to do it themselves?? maybe a doubleheader with the "Big Four". Certainly Maine would fill the place themselves;) Alumni is smallish but even though the sight lines are never real good at outdoor venues, it really wouldn't be that bad, in fact, i think it would be really good. The top part is steep and close to the action and the end zones are that way as well...........I dunno, just a thought. GDF would likely put the kabosh on it since he wouldn't want the hockey team to use and actually benefit from his beloved football team and stadium:rolleyes:

In truth... apart from the "nostalgia" aspect of Fenway Park, Alumni Stadium would probably be a better outdoor venue than Fenway as far as sight lines etc.

A doubleheader though? Would anyone really stay outside for the duration of 2 hockey games? I think you would be better off doing BU/BC again... or bringing in a big name western team. It would likely sell our regardless of 2 games or 1 game.

That being said, I don't think any of us should be holding our breath for outdoor hockey in Boston anytime in the near future.
