I suppose a lttle coverage is better than none at all. A small photo and a few paragraphs about John Muse in the scorecard section of this week's Sports Illustrated. Came today.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

The two previous years, SI had full-fledged stories of the FF. Very disappointing. :(

I guess they were too busy with the Masters coverage and following Tiger around.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

York is redoing his contract this summer. According to Jerry, it'll have the "Yorks and BC's best interests in mind". My guess is this next one will be his last (probably five years to fulfill any promises to incoming freshmen next year)
Hopefully, "BC's best interests in mind", means there is a clause that lets Jerry name his successor, or that he will have a significant say in the hiring of the next head coach upon his retirement.

A little surprising for two reasons...no Muse and I thought Gibbons was a slam dunk for Captain. It's the players' decision though.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I can definitely see why Whitney was chosen as captain. He's scored many big goals and from all reports is an outspoken guy in the locker room and on the ice, big personality. I'm sure he'll keep the guys loose throughout what is a long season.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Exactly what I was thinking. Whitney is a character that will keep the guys loose. The question is, will that work? What were Price and Lombardi and Smith like? Those guys seemed like they were all business. Same as Brennan a few years ago. Hope it works out either way.

I think Brennan was more outspoken, perhaps, than the seniors this year. Sort of a combination of what Whitney is and what the 2010 seniors are.

Brennan might be more like Whitney than Price/Lombardi/Smith. In fact, during the regular season Brennan was still prone to the stupid penalties (remember the one at the end of the Northeastern game to end the regular season in 08? essentially killed any hope of BC winning that game). Whitney certainly has the tendency to commit dumb penalties like Brennan had.

Any updates on the schedule?

I would really like to play St. Mary's University for our exhibition game with a Canadian team. A little CIS vs. NCAA battle.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

It has been nice to see a pretty strong BC presence in the NHL playoffs so far. Orpik, Eaves, Alberts, Scuderi, Mottau, Guerin, Gionta, and Harrold have all played and unless something changes Gerbe will probably be suiting up for the Sabres. Anyone I'm missing?

I haven't been watching but has Ryan Shannon played?

Belated congrats to the Eagles on another awesome run to the championship. I give you fans a lot of crap, but other than my own team, there's no other team I enjoy watching play and there is no coach I respect more. Well deserved and congrats again!

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Agreed. Too many so-called discussion these days revolve around: "My team's great, you're4 team bleeps."

I've been a college hockey fan since 1965 and a big BC fan since 1973, but I've always respected what BU has brought to the college hockey table. Players I've admired include not just the headliners, but the likes of Buddy Powers, Bill LeBlond, Kai Linna, Ed Ronan, etc.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

just watched the replay of all the goals on both games (thanks tonytiger) and of course remembered Atkinson with the two goals on backhanders in the final but had "misremembered" that he had a backhander for a goal in the semis vs Redhawks too.................3 of 'em in two games from one player is rather unique.......

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Gerbe was sent down to Portland on Friday. Depending on the condition of Thomas Vanek (who was injured Saturday) and Drew Stafford, he may be called back up for Monday's game.
