Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

In truth... apart from the "nostalgia" aspect of Fenway Park, Alumni Stadium would probably be a better outdoor venue than Fenway as far as sight lines etc.

A doubleheader though? Would anyone really stay outside for the duration of 2 hockey games? I think you would be better off doing BU/BC again... or bringing in a big name western team. It would likely sell our regardless of 2 games or 1 game.

That being said, I don't think any of us should be holding our breath for outdoor hockey in Boston anytime in the near future.

How about a New England Hockey Jamboree at Alumni with several games over 3 days. You could bring in Maine/UNH, Harvard/Yale,NU/Cornell(not quite New England but they would be a good fit),BC/BU and even precede them with Bentley/Holy Cross,UVM/UML etc.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

reading this stuff about Michigan already selling 80,000 tickets to the outdoor game vs Michigan State made me think, for once:eek: I wonder if BC has ever thought to do it themselves?? maybe a doubleheader with the "Big Four". Certainly Maine would fill the place themselves;) Alumni is smallish but even though the sight lines are never real good at outdoor venues, it really wouldn't be that bad, in fact, i think it would be really good. The top part is steep and close to the action and the end zones are that way as well...........I dunno, just a thought. GDF would likely put the kabosh on it since he wouldn't want the hockey team to use and actually benefit from his beloved football team and stadium:rolleyes:

GDF jokes aside, BC won't be able to do this because the bubble is over the field from Thanksgiving until the Spring...Michigan has an indoor practice facility so they can do something like this.

all good and, yeah, i know a doubleheader would be tough for fans to sit through but they all dont show up for both inside either i.e. beanpot..........opps, sorry, pizzpot;)

Enough with the outdoor games!

The only way I'd want to see another one is if we had one at Alumni Stadium in exchange for losing our home game this season to Fenway. Then we go back to the normal rotation of 2 at BU, then 2 at BC, etc.

yeah, but clearly "enough:eek: " people have not had enough of them since they keep having them

There's something a bit satisfying watching Sabres goalie Ryan Miller get the short end of the stick three games in a row versus the Bruins.

He's the guy that kept BC from a sure NCAA Championship in April 2007 when his MSU Spartans won, 3-1. You could barely find a person on the planet who didn't think BC was going to demolish Michigan State that night.

I'll never forget that game.

???

Ryan Miller graduated from Michigan State in 2001, he was already a Sabre in 2007. I guess you 'did' forget that game. :)

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Not only that, but I think two lerg's stacked on shoulders still ain't as tall as miller!! :p

Ha... look like you already did forget some of it. :p

Don't worry, BC took care of Miller and MSU in 2000 (in overtime) on their way to the Providence FF before they choked the chicken against UND in the finals.

I'll tell you what, even if he did beat us in 2007, I really love that guy for what he did in Vancouver a few months ago. You get the feeling every American hockey fan, despite not being a Sabres fan, really likes the guy now. He's a pretty humble character too, which is nice to see.

Well, Tim Kennedy did score in the 2007 NC. Despite his Olympic heroics, I am inclined to dislike Miller since he beat out Gionta for the Hobey.

Amen. One of these days the novelty is going to wear out. Keep hockey in hockey arenas. I remember at the Fenway game, when teams scored, there was a noticeable lag in the crowd's reaction. No one could see what was going on.

Don't forget that Alumni's aluminum benches would be RIDICULOUSLY cold on a January night.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Well, THAT was completely DUMB of me! A game 'I'll never forget' and I screwed up the MSU goalie. :(

LOL @ me.

Anyway, I still won't forget the game even I forget who was goalie for MSU. I recall that these message boards were filled with predictions about how badly BC would beat the Spartans, not whether they'd beat them.

Thank God for 2008 & (especially) 2010. I bought a few things that will be delivered by UPS today: a Championship puck; a wooden plaque, and the 37" x 27" flag. I think BC should be proudest of this latest championship, followed by 2001, followed by 2008.

with all the others we SHOULD have won and lost, 2008 certainly came out of nowhere. they were best team in hockey during tourney time but right up until the last wekend of the regular season it was hard to think they'd go very far . it took a little sting out of 2007, not the others we should have won(1998/2000) though

BC made a fortune off me from this championship, too. Aside from the championship hat and tshirt I got in Detroit, I got a different champ hat thru the bookstore, a couple of pucks, and a pennant. My guess is I probably spent about $200 on championship gear for this one, much more than I spent in 2008 or 2001.

When you add in all the money you spent on hookers and blow in Detroit, you're just a 1-man economic stimulus. :D

Not to mention the countless dollars I've since spent on penicillin thanks to said hookers when I returned home. :)
