Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Not good... be interesting to see what disciplinary action they face re: the university and the team.

A shame, and embarrassing to the university and the program. We'll see what happens; hopefully it's not like the O'Hanley thing. Back in '95 York suspended 10 players just for going to MA's after he asked them not to. This could result in a lengthy suspension for the players involved.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I would expect indefinite suspensions for sure. I doubt any of the three see ice time until 2011.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

what a bunch of dummies!!! Good for them. They could have seriously hurt someone. BC should come down hard on these kids.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I hope we get a long suspension. Idiotic crap.

If you want to drink and have fun you do it in your dorm room or a friends dorm room. You don't go around driving in the middle of the night.

I trust York, he will do the right thing and send a message that this crap won't be tolerated.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I think this is way overblown especially given the other stories out there. Watched the 11 PM news and when I first saw how channel 5 introduced the story compared to the facts involved--didn't add up to me. I'm not gonna get on these guys too much here. I had a few pops before my 21st birthday and also got in a car that contained alcohol. They were smart enough to get in a car with a sober driver. Only issue is being in the car with alcohol. Did they know it was in the car? Probably, but that isn't a certainty. I believe it was a Jeep Cherokee? If so, no "trunk" to put the bottle in. This is unfortunate, but could have been a lot worse.

This is completely meaningless, but found it interesting the Penguins prospect and two Pittsburgh kids were together.

Now, punishment. Is there an underage drinking precedent under York?

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

looks like we will need a couple of incoming freshmen D-men and the glut in goal next year has been thinned a bit:mad:

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Will be interesting to see what happens.

Kids from juniors tend to think it is ok to drink under age, sad but true

Needs to be long suspensions or wrong mesage will be sent

Agreed about the sober driver, that is the most important fact of this story. I, unlike all you saints out there, also went out and enjoyed my college experience. The fact that they had alcohol in the car is inexcusable, but that is really the only issue. Sober driver, sober driver, sober driver. Those saying they are lucky they didn't hurt anyone, I don't understand? How could they hurt someone sitting in a jeep driven by a sober driver? Get the facts before throwing out punishment and passing judgement. They will be suspended, but I don't see more than 5 games.

It's not the underage drinking that bothers me that much, let's face it, I'm sure most college hockey players drink. I'm also sure that most college students drink.

What bothers me, is the drinking and driving part, the accident part, and the leaving the scene of the accident.

"The trolley operator told police some of the teens picked up what appeared to be alcoholic beverage containers and took off."

Even though it's possible that the driver hadn't had a drop to drink what they did is still against the law.

Should be interesting.

Here's a scenairo: Maybe they'll all end up playing for Maine, win another NC there, end up bloated and confused on NESN...and a state trooper.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I would guess they will go by the student code of conduct (all 7 were BC students I believe). If that warrants suspensions, so be it.
As far as the players, if a first time offense, probably a long sit down with Jerry for a 'smartin' up' talk.
I can see some extracurricular community service for all involved.

hope you're right but i don't think so......... Coach York just does not put up with those who break the rules..........

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

If every college kid in America were suspended, expelled, etc. for first time offenses, there would be no students.
We have all made mistakes in life... second chances help mold better people.
Bad decisions were made here and thankfully no one was hurt/killed.

I agree with this. But other than the obvious, the most embarrassing thing for some of these kids is that they ran away from their hurt friends. That is awful!

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

i'd set the over/under at 5.5 games apiece for a suspension..... i hope york doesn't crack the whip too hard and suspend them for the whole fall semester

Hey, I'm willing to play ball that this story is a little overblown, but this is just making excuses for them. "Too bad they had alcohol in the car, but hey, its really not that bad because there was no trunk to properly store their liquor bottles! They may have not even realized there was a bottle of Jack Daniels in their lap!" (of course we don't know if was bottles of liquor or simply a plastic cup of beer)

Drinking is not a big deal. Letter of the law wrong, yes, but it is something a far majority of kids in college do. I've seen many underage BU players drink. The difference in getting caught is that these guys are more high-profile and puts a negative mark (publicity) on the program. That is the position York will take with them.

Alcohol in the car (assuming the driver was sober) is more troubling. Even more troubling is tossing the alcohol and fleeing the scene. I'm sure Jerry York is irate and he always deals with these things in the proper manner. If the punishment is light, the story was overblown, if it is heavy its probably true .

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

If the driver was sober, I'm very proud of these kids for doing the single smartest and responsible thing a kid can do. Everyone drinks underage. Only the smart ones make sure there is no DWI involved.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Um... yeah...

OK than what is it?

What bothers me, is the drinking and driving part, the accident part, and the leaving the scene of the accident.

"The trolley operator told police some of the teens picked up what appeared to be alcoholic beverage containers and took off."

Even though it's possible that the driver hadn't had a drop to drink what they did is still against the law.

With an accident like that and the fact that alcohol was involved, you can bet the cops went right to the driver to see if they had been drinking.

We don't know if anyone was drinking in the car, but obviously that isn't smart. Now, fleeing from the cops. I would be interested to know if some of them were told to flee with the alcohol but they simply forgot the bottle of vodka that was found. Seems plausible to me.

Hey, I'm willing to play ball that this story is a little overblown, but this is just making excuses for them. I guess my point is that we probably will never know all the details, like the scenario I mentioned above. Not trying to make excuses for them, especially if they were drinking in the car. Is it stupid to have alcohol in the car when everyone's underage? Absolutely. But I have a hard time getting on them because I've been in that situation. Now that this has happened, any second offense and I would say see ya later. First offense, I think a suspension would do.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

How dumb do you have to be to let a girl get behind the wheel of a car?
