Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

No excusing this behavior by any of the students involved, especially by the hockey players.

I'm sure York will come down hard on the hockey players, above and beyond what the school and courts will do. York will not put up with this.

They are lucky they weren't seriously injured.

BTW, the story is now on the front page of uscho.com:

Good job, boys!

Although technically the Boston Globe's headline was:

"Samuelsson cheapshots Trolley with blindside hit, then runs"

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

This is currently the #2 story on boston.com. Apparently it is less important than New England asthma rates but more important than Schumer's inquiry into Facebook privacy practices.

The headline just says that three players are charged. It does not specify that the driver was sober. Basically you're left to assume everyone was drunk.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I think we can all assume on past history that there will be significant discipline for this. York simply does not put up with this type of stuff. I know they're freshman, they're young, they're immature, and this type of thing happens all the time, but Jerry is likely to teach these three a serious lesson about actions having consequences.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Just giving my opinion, but I think at worst, the punishment will be suspended for the first semester. I just don't see them being kicked off the team for a first offense of underage drinking.

I don't see them being booted either, but I would definitely consider a suspension for the first semester to be significant.

again, I think we all hope you and a previous poster are correct but i fear the hammer from Jerry ....................remember, in Jerry we trust;)

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

Underage drinking? Dumb mistake.

Beyond that... why are people freaking out? Those who say they are proud of the kids for getting into a car with a sober driver are absolutely correct.

I'm sure York will lay down the hammer, but other than the ones who ran from the scene, I think it would be way, way over the top to kick them off the team.

By the way, I bet York has very clear and understood punishments for given offenses, probably in writing. "If you drink underage, you get _________" etc.

EDIT: By the way, they were charged with underage possession, not underage drinking. Kind of a big difference, don't you think? By the sound of it they were merely in the car, and there was alcohol in the car.

I would clarify this to being in a car with alcohol, but I've done both, so who am I to get on them? They got caught and will pay a price. Let's just hope it doesn't happen again.

Good point.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I'm obviously not following this as closely as the rest of you, but where was it reported (or mentioned) that the driver was sober. Nothing I have seen specified one way or another.

If all that happened was what is already in the news I think anything more than a one semester suspension would be overkill, I would just make Milner's suspension a few games longer than the other two, for fleeing.

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

and they also know the rules (which were broken) and i am quite sure they are aware that coach runs a tight ship...........we'll just have to see how it plays out. reads that milner and two of the girls are the ones who ran
Edit to agganis.........i heard on a few news reports that the driver was not drunk and it was said that was what was on the police report

Yeah, I'm not sure why people are assuming the driver was sober. That was never specified anywhere. The fact that she cut off a moving trolley kind of makes you wonder.

As for punishment, I'd guess anywhere from 10 games to the entire first semester.

Edit: Was writing this as sterlippo posted. I haven't heard that, but if it's true, that might knock a couple games off. I'm not sure it will really make that much of a difference, though.

Not that I don't believe you, but is this in any of the written reports online?

Ok, just checked WBZ's websitse, it says "Boston College has received a copy of the MBTA police report, which indicates the driver of the vehicle was not drinking at the time of the accident. No arrests were made and no charges have been filed."

Re: Boston College Offseason Thread: Basking in the glow.. again

I have a hard time believing anything but the driver was sober if cops were on the scene. If she wasn't, I think they would have caught on and done something about it.

And I'm not gonna cast dispersions on the ones who fled. For all we know, the rest of them told them to take the booze and get out before the cops arrived.

If BC's athletic director needs any advice on how to handle alcohol related incidents please tell him to feel free to contact the University of North Dakota athletic department and he will happily email a copy of our lengthy rules and procedures that has been perfected over the years. Welcome to the club Eagles!:D

It says she wasn't drinking, not that she was sober.
