Boston College Hockey, Part II

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Congrats to the Cats. Like I said to CBG and unhhockey29, this UNH team is a grittier team than we're used to seeing (despite not having as much talent).

That being said, York shortening the forwards to basically 2 lines and pulling his team back in the 3rd period was simply disgusting.

York and his staff lost this game for BC. No blame on the players at all.

This cant be a bc superfan I'm hearing throwing Yorkie under the bus. I always thought Jerwy walked on water and could do no wrong ??? Nah, as much as you fellas want to lay blame for another Whitt meltdown on somebody, it wuz UNH's first goal that turned that game around, and UNH's game, not Jerrys mistakes. It was fun though listening to Janney rag unmercifully on Jerry for not pulling his goalie at the end.....delicious. :D

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

BC had some chances in the 2nd period that could have made it a 4, 5 or 6-0 lead after two. That has happened in a few of the recent blowouts... the puck didn't bounce right last night.

Probably not a bad thing what happened last night. We got the ugly tie, didn't effect our PWR ranking, and now we have probably a better shot of facing a #3 Maine, rather than a #4 UML, in the semi's. ;)
Plus... the team will stay a little hungrier after a game like that. :D

Janney is a nitwit. It's a shame most people watching probably didn't realize it. How he could criticize York for that and not get on him for rolling 2 lines the last 10 minutes and pulling back the entire team into the neutral zone (on a big sheet!) is downright hilarious... not that I watched the game on tv but it doesn't seem like he was ragging on York for what he should have.

agree with that about the second period, just one and it's 4-0 and game over but the game still seems like a loss..........

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

not a complaint or sour grapes, but how does this team have the power play for a total of ONLY 39 seconds in about 128 minutes of playing time over the past 2 games?..................the power play ..........for 39 seconds............ in 128 minutes...........in two games!!!

I didn't see the UMass game, but last night's game was a very clean game (as most UNH/BC games are), and despite screwing up that replay (allegedly), I thought the glorified linesmen called an ok game last night...

yeah, i agree about the game being clean and well officiated, i think the call was correct BTW. i was at the UMass game and again, one could not criticize the officiating, my point was that it is very strange that an offensive team such as BC could have 39 seconds of power play over 2+ games

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

If BC pulled the goalie and lost, our RPI would be .0048 lower than it is now. Our RPI would be .5446, swapping the Yale comparison giving us 17 PWR points. It would also have been a TUC loss, which would have been sufficient to swap the NoDak comparison giving us 16 PWR points.

The end result is that pulling the goalie and losing would have knocked us from t-5 to t-10 (and losing the tiebreaker, so 11th) in the PWR.

Pulling the goalie there would have been ****ing stupid.

thanks for the number crunching. i didn't realize that things were so tight and wanted to see them go for it all to win.

of course, if they had just gotten it done in regulation it would have been a moot point

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Well, last night was certainly disappointing, but all is not lost. This team is in the national tournament, has the #2 seed locked up in Hockey East, and is now playing for seeding. Last night's result will have no bearing on anything if they meet at the Garden. Hopefully they understand that tonight's game can do wonders in the PWR. Two blown three goal leads in the 3rd period at UNH...let's put it away tonight at home and go into the postseason on a high note.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

right now y'all got a #1 seed.
I'm pretty sure that no matter what happens tonight in the other games, we will keep the #4 slot in the PWR... untied as well.

Even if SCSU and NoDak pass us in RPI, we would only flip the SCSU comparison which would keep us alone in 4th.

BYAGH!!!!!

I'm considering starting a BC vs. BU Hockey East semifinal thread right now. But I'd rather not jinx it for us.

Please no bu. Thanks.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Its weird that the #2 team in HE standings has a #1 seed in the NCAA's and the #3 team in HE standings is out of the NCAA;s. Thats called a sudden drop off in talent.

BU is hating the MC matchup I guarantee you. UMA, UML even UVM would be better.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Just returned from SAT night's final regular season game vs. UNH. VERY happy with what I saw tonight, overall. With the exception of some poor passing decisions in the final 2-3 min., BC played a very solid game. They really wanted this one, and it showed. They fought hard to win battles for the puck consistently and passed the puck around beautifully - the best I've seen in a while during a close game. Just a really strong effort resulting in some good, sound hockey - on both ends of the ice - with the forwards flinging the puck around efficiently resulting in tons of quality shots, and the defensemen consistently breaking up and shutting down UNH attacks. BTW, why wasn't Shea playing tonight? This is a great way to go into the tournament - beating top-dog UNH after FRI night's demoralizing tie. What's more is that BC won this game by coming back from behind - something they've had a difficult time doing this season. I liked what I saw from all 4 forward lines, too. They all seem to be pretty well in sync with each other, and more guys are starting to contribute offensively. Jimmy Hayes in particular stepped it up tonight despite not having any points to show for it.
