Boston College Hockey, Part II

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

I posted this on another thread, but was told it might get more attention here. It's about the Boston College recruits for this coming September. Someone gave me the link that shows who they are bringing in-- Cody Ferriero, Bill Arnold, Patrick Brown, Isaac MacLeod, Kevin Hayes, Brian Billett and Brad Barone. But how do these guys stack up to their competition? Are they dominating? Are they role players? High scorers? Anyone with any info would be helpful. Thank you.

The truth is, we won't know until they get here.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

If BC sweeps UNH, would that be enough to boost the Eagles into 4th place in the PairWise Rankings (they're 6th now)? The Northeast Regional in Worcester will suffer for attendance without either BC or UNH being there. And I don't think UNH is ranked high enough to get placed there. It'll be an empty arena without one of those two schools in Worcester.

Was checking the Hobey voting this morning and saw that BC's Gibbons is coming on strong. Has he been that good this year?

there is no way one of those teams won't be in worcester IMO unless they think say yale or cornell are viable alternatives, which i don't

Hayes is a very good scorer amd always puts up numbers. Will be drafted this year a little higher then his brother Jim.
Arnold as well but not as prolific

I tend to agree, which would mean BC. I don't think UNH can leapfrog BC in the PWR even if they sweep this weekend (which isn't likely, in any event).

I had the same bracket as USCHO. Only difference is I had Denver's group in Albany and the BC/Cornell combo in Worcester.

Yes. A career year for him.

K. Hayes' stock is certainly on the rise. He's now a fringe 1st round pick.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Atkinson is on this week's INCH Hobey Tracker. They cite 11-12--23 in the last 15 games and his consistency.

Gibbons is crazy awesome good. People just have no idea without being able to watch him play every week. He has deceptive speed, very good setup/passing abilities, and can put it in the net without much trouble as well. But what separates him is that he's not afraid to mix it up, get in corners and really dig like heck, and he's not afraid to light guys up when the time is right.

Some might argue his PIMs this year, which are quite high, would hurt his chances for recognition but he hasn't put his team in bad positions with the penalties very often on legit calls (which is the opposite of that knuckle head Petrecki). To me the PIMs signify that he has a more robust game than some of the other pure offensively skilled guys in the league (Butler, Nyquist).

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

The only stupid penalty by Gibbons all year that I can remember was at Matthews a couple of weeks ago. He went halfway across the ice and left his feet to hit someone and during the delay he thought he could do anything and got another call for interference (I believe). NU scored during the first part of the double minor and soon after the second minor expired.

But completely agree, on the who he has been excellent.

Lets not forget his stupid penalty with two minutes left in the game against BU at Fenway Park. It effectively killed any chance we had at a comeback. Other than that, Gibbons has been great.

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

Saw the comments about the incoming recruits...has anyone seen any of them play?

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

FWIW............i just looked at the average age of every D1 team playing this week, and it's just about everyone and BC is the youngest team at 20yrs 8 months and Michigan is next at 20 yrs 11 months, no one else below 21.........i would think this is not a major surprise but interesting none the less

Re: Boston College Hockey, Part II

I could be wrong, but IIRC that penalty was a bad call.

Agreed completely, totally bogus call. Worth noting the original post said "legit calls".

He has his moments and got away with the Gryba Smash in the Garden but still. Compare what he does with his physical game to what Petrecki was doing and the price BC paid last year vs. this year. Huge difference.

Unless BC's a No. 1 seed, though, it won't necessarily be whoever's higher in the PWR. For example, if Denver ends up 1, Miami 2, BC 7 and UNH 8 or 9, BC would probably head to Ft. Wayne w/ Miami, while Denver and UNH would end up in Worcester.

There's a lot they can do with the locations and teams in those top slots. If they want to put BC in worcester to sell tix, they'll figure it out and make it work.
