All Things Denver XXXII

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

If this team is going to make any noise this season, they need to run off 10 to 12 wins by the end of January, starting this weekend. This is completely doable given that they play only 1 ranked team through the end of January. They need to start dominating games and giving 60 minute efforts with positive results. They need a goalie to step up and steal a game. Sam probably would have stolen 2 or 3 games already had he been healthy. No knock on Adam or Jussi, but neither has stolen a game for DU this season. They have played well but not spectacular. With the talent on this team, it should not be sitting in the middle of the league standings or on the outside of the PWR looking in. They already have 5 losses and 3 ties. Back in my day we only had 6 losses in 40 games all season and only 1 tie with 5 OT wins. The boys came to play every night no matter who the opponent was. They never played down to the skill level of an opponent and dictated the pace of the game from the get go. It is time for DU to start running some teams out of buildings. Now lets go out and get 4 points this weekend and 4 more next!

I wish the entire team had Jay Z's fervor, he posted this earlier today:

Looks like Wade Bennett is on the trip. he posted this today and looks like he is raring to get in a game.
FWIW, Swami is not coming back.:(
(Emphasis added)

One thing I've noticed is a lack of scoring in the 3rd period. Last year we outscored the enemy 66 to 32 in the 3rd. This year 12 to 11 so far. As Jimmy V said,"You can't give up." As du78 said, you have to play a full 60 minutes.

My thoughts exactly. Props to Beau for playing through pain. I'm guessing he wanted to delay the surgery until after the CC game??? But if that's the case, I wonder why he waited a week after the game to have the surgery. Who knows, but I wish him the best.

Guys are really going to have to step up until the end of January/beginning of February--the 2 Shores and Zucker of course come to mind. Salazar will also be key over the next few weeks. I also wonder if Gwoz will be giving LaLeggia and Makowski even more of a green light to create additional offense.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

Just quickly cobbled a list together of players who have missed significant time due to injuries at DU in the past few years

Connor James
Tyler Bozak
Brock Trotter
Sam Brittain
Dusty Jackson
John Ryder
Jesse Martin
Beau Bennett

I also remember Tyler Ruegsegger playing injured most of one season.

Let's hope the presently-injured DU players have a return like Connor James did. That was pretty much awesome.

Our loss. Swami never shied away from controversy, but he was an absolute model of civility. Losing a poster like him makes me think more carefully about how I poke fun around here.

He was a credit to the Denver fanbase too.

He definitely was. Still one of the best hockey fans to have a beer with.

He's still around and I see him at most of the games at Magness. Luckily, us in Denver can still chat with him and get his take on how things are going for the team. But, unfortunately I don't see him coming back on these boards either, although each time I see him I ask him to come back.

I miss his keen analytical insight: "DU is 3-3 in road games starting after 7:30PM at sea level against Morrill Land Grant schools with new student unions and enrollments in excess of 10,000." :)

Well, then, here's to Swami--the consumate college hockey fan.

And the rest of us are counting on you Denver fans to get him back. Tell him a bunch of Nodaks will chip in to get him a weekend holiday for two in Fargo, free bowling privileges included, if he'll come back. Nobody could pass that up.

I guess Fargo is better than Grand Forks:p

Gwoz -
A very important Dec. win as the team hung in tough. Heard about Patrick Wiercioch injury and glad to know he is stable and going to be OK.

Jay Z -
Big comeback with for @DU_Hockey tonight. Bemidji is a good team, and we needed the points. Need 2 more pts tomorrow. #pios

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

Wow. I just googled "Patrick Wiercioch injury" and, man, I hope he recovers from this as it sounds pretty serious.

Also, if I'm not mistaken (which could very well be true), on the video feed it looked like Zucker did a "Sliding Tebow" after his GTG.

A couple different angles on Wiercioch's injury.

Also want to point out that DU shot up to a tie for 4th tonight, with 2 games in hand over Tech (who we are tied for 4th with). The tigglywigglies and the flickertails both lost...so did the goofs and tDawgs tied. We basically had a pretty good night. The standings just took a more favorable turn for us than expected.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

This just in: Doc Blanchard told me to tell OP that he can suck his own nuts. My son in the Air Force concurrs GO ARMY!

And go DU Pios!

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

Waiting to see the lines for tonight. Hopefully Ostrow will be in the mix.
Proud of the boys for ONLY 2 penalties last night. BSU plays a frustrating brand of hockey, so you have to keep your cool--did a good job. Now let's put more pucks in the net tonight!
