Re: All Things Denver XXXII

Random thoughts:
Jussi may not be Sam Brittain, but he has to be the find of the season.
John Lee was the IronMan when half of DU's defense was in the penalty box.
Jason Zucker broke out Friday night. This is the JZ we need for the rest of the season.
Drew Shore is the most consistent, best player on the ice.
Shawn Ostrow's off season regime should be bottled. He is the most improved player.
Knowlton-Ostrow-Jackson checking line is far more than that.
Where does Luke Salazar fit in the scheme of things?
Special teams are a chink in the armor. The PP has not been great, but the PK has really dropped off.--from 85-86% effectiveness to just abot 80%. With the number of penalties the Pios take, this is a big problem.
Eleven penalties Friday night--was this because of the big ice?
Bennett move to the top line, what happens to Nick Shore's line? (BTW, moving Beau up reminds me of Colborne moving to play with Rakhshani and Rueggseger.)
If DU scores 4 goals or more we win the game.
Anyone want to guess lines when Zucker, probably Nick Shore, and maybe Mayfield are at the WJC?

OMG, a penalty shot in OT to win the game! And what a shot!

How long did the BC-BU game Take? Three and two thirds periods:eek: and there was no OT. Thirty, that's 30, penalties in the game may have had something to do with it.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

The preliminary roster for the 2012 U.S. National Junior Team will be unveiled Monday (Dec. 5) at 5:30 p.m. EST exclusively on the NHL Network's Cisco NHL Live.
My opinion Missing from the final roster from the summer: F-Grimaldi(injured), D-Faulk(NHL), and  D-Merrill who I believe is still under suspension at Michigan and has yet to play a game.

NHL.com took a stab at the 30-man camp roster which includes Nick Shore, Scott Mayfield and Jason Zucker. Zucker is the potential captain. Faulk probably won't be released by Carolina to play. Grimaldi, Saad and Galchenyuk all injured. Merrill probably getting an invite to camp, don't know what kind of shape he is in. Scott Mayfield likely taking Faulk's spot.

DU drops to 13 in USCHO and USA Today Polls.

Looks like Jason Zucker will be the only Pioneer at the WJC.

Familiar names Kyle Rau(goph,cc bro) and Austin Czarnik(Miami) were newcomers to the list.

Yes indeed. Heard Sam is back on the ice and one schedule for a January return

John Lee was the IronMan when half of DU's defense was in the penalty box.

Blue collar D man with a ton of maturity carrying the team in Ryder's absence.

Jason Zucker broke out Friday night. This is the JZ we need for the rest of the season.

Great to see. Looked like he messed his wrist up. Might impact his jr appearance.

Drew Shore is the most consistent, best player on the ice.
CC did a good job of slowing him down. He had several amazing chances.
Shawn Ostrow's off season regime should be bottled. He is the most improved player.
For sure.
Knowlton-Ostrow-Jackson checking line is far more than that.
Love that line--they are the work your tail off line

Where does Luke Salazar fit in the scheme of things?
Needs a solid line pairing

Losing a step on the big sheet

DU Game Notes for this weekend's series at BSU. The next two weekends for DU are must win situations. They need two sweeps for both league standings and PWR implications.

Highlights of the Game Notes

THIS WEEKEND'S STORY LINES
Denver is 8-0 all-time against Bemidji State.
DU is on a two-game losing streak, while Bemidji State is on a three-game unbeaten streak.
BSU head coach Tom Serratore is the brother of former DU head coach and current Air Force head coach Frank Serratore.
Drew Shore and Jason Zucker are on six-game point streaks.

FOR OPENERS
No. 13 Denver (6-5-3, 4-3-3 WCHA) travels to Bemidji State (6-8-2, 4-6-2 WCHA) for the first time for a two-game WCHA series on Fri.-Sat., Dec. 9-10.
Denver is 3-2-1 against unranked opponents and 1-3-1 on the road.
DU is tied for sixth with Michigan Tech and St. Cloud State in the WCHA with 11 points each, while Bemidji State is ninth at 10 points.
Sophomore Jason Zucker and junior Drew Shore lead DU in scoring with 20 points (8g, 12a) and 19 points (6g, 13a), respectively. Shore and Zucker led the Pioneers in scoring last season with 46 and 45 points, respectively.
Zucker has been named to the Team USA preliminary roster for the IIHF World Junior Championship on Dec. 26, 2010-Jan. 5, 2011, in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta.

INJURY REPORT
Goaltender Adam Murray and defenseman John Ryder are out for the third straight weekend with lower-body injuries. Zac Larraza is probable after missing the Colorado College game on Dec. 2 with a lower-body injury.

Jim Johannson and Dean Blais' comments about JayZ in yesterday's USA Hockey Teleconference.

Blais on Jason Zucker:

Jason Zucker doesn’t have a real weakness to his game. He’s a leader at Denver.

When he was up in Saskatoon, he was just a role player, didn’t get much ice time, but he gave us whatever he could.

Obviously he’s stepped up, he’s gotten better every year, on the power-play, penalty kill, he’s fast, he’s tough, he finishes his checks, he blocks shots. I think he’s a future NHL player just in the things I’ve seen him improve on.

The biggest thing for him is he’s a leader and I think he’s going to rub off in a real positive way on the team.
Johannson on Zucker:

We put a video together for our players two years ago, this is what USA Hockey is, this is how we want to play in the several aspects of speed, transition, blocking shots. I think I could have put Jason Zucker in every single clip because he does all of those things well.

I think, in his case, he’s learned that he has to do all those things well to be a top-end player. He’s a guy with great experience, but also a guy that has learned about his game coming through all this and when he has success and I know he’s going to be ready for the championship.

Does anyone have any word on whether Zucker's arm is OK? Stupid CC player slashed him in the arm, and it looked like it was bothering Zucker a lot.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

Excuse me guys. I know this question seems completely ignorant, but did Puck S quit posting?

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

He did, we all miss him. He was our unofficial leader.

I'm very sorry to hear that. That is a huge a loss for this board. Puck loved college hockey and was a rich source of information and history. There was no other on this board like him--the best. Talk him back.

For awhile I thought Swami was posting on Lets Go DU under a pseudonym. But no more. He is definitely missed and we want him back. This is about time for his mid-season review/analysis and usually a "bit" pessimistic outlook that got everyone involved. Maybe 2012 will bring Swami back. I sure hope so!
