Alaska Airlines Governors Cup UA vs. UAA Feb 25th & Feb 26th

Re: Alaska Airlines Governors Cup UA vs. UAA Feb 25th & Feb 26th

Never been very consistent bringing many people here in any numbers. Air deals, hotel deals: nothing seems to cut it to get people up here. More then a little pathetic but seeing as we can't even get students to our own games then I'm not all that surprised.

Seemed like there were a few more empty seats then a typical Governors Cup game. Did the snow and wind keep people home?
1. Game was on Friday, people have to work.
2. Still very expensive to travel and stay in a hotel (charter a bus that drives back that night)
3. It's Fairbanks

As much as I like Shyiak's aggression, I think it got the best of him tonight. Really weird move to pull that goaltender with so much time left.
What else could he do? His team had given up and needed a kick. He had to do something and that was his only option, his team just coughed it up like they did all night.

I disagree. If UAA had shown us they had anything going on the power play, then I MIGHT be okay with a move like that. But they had a full two minute two man advantage and couldn't even get a shot on net. I knew as soon as Shyiak pulled the goalie it would be in the back of our net, and it was. STUPID move. All UAA had to do was score ONE goal in 6 minutes and they were back in it, and after they score they always play better.

Having said that, the team I watched tonight is not the same team that beat a very good UNO team last weekend, beat the Badgers, the Gophers, and swept CC. They looked horrible. Tomorrow night should be the best crowd of the year (not counting military appreciation night) - so don't embarrass us Seawolves. Show us some emotion - cause tonight you looked like you just didn't want it.

This team has got to start learning from their mistakes. I am sick and tired of watching a certain defensemen shoot from the point right into the skates of a defender. That led to a UA_ goal tonight. STOP IT.

I can't stand anchorage but I go when I can to support my team, so not liking the town is no excuse.

I disagree, the team was out of it and had given up, they needed something to get them going and that's the only option he had.

This team does not have the ability to comeback right now. If they give the first goal, they're toast. If they surrender a lead like they dead, they give up. The North Dakota is more and more of a case of North Dakota going soft.

I repeat, the team had given up already, they needed something. If UAA scores on that play we'd be hailing a great move to get them back in the game, but they didn't, and that's why it was a risk, but one worth taking.

We're gonna have to agree to disagree on this one JJ. I think Shyiak's emotions and frustration got the best of him - again.

Can some Nanook fan please tell me how the hell the CCHA is doing their playoff format this season? UA_ is in 7th place and they get home ice for the playoffs? The first THREE teams must be getting a bye? How very strange. I wish UAA would get a break like that.

I'm not gonna waste what little extra money I have to travel to Fairbanks to watch my team. I've done it before and I don't really feel like doing it again. I'd have to drive up or fly up, both are expensive, find a hotel, again costly, get tickets, manage to either a) not get things thrown at me for wearing a UAA shirt b) not get in an altercation because I'm wearing a UAA shirt c) get arrested because of a and b.

And those are the highlights of a trip to Fairbanks. I'm sorry your town is boring, beyond the game there is no reason to go, and I'm not spending $500+ to watch a game in Fairbanks when I could watch it on TV.

I don't really get it but 11-10-9 travel to 8-7-6...and so I guess the first five get a first round bye...after that I don't really know what happens haha

And that's how I feel about Anchorage, heck I normally don't even get a hotel and would just leave right after the game. But it's always fun watching your own team wins in your rivals barn (when it happens). I've been yelled at and seen people throw stuff at Nanook fans in Anchorage but it doesn't deter them.

He's taking a risk to win a game, a Non-Conference game I might add, he had to take. His team had given up already and needed a kick in the * and he had to do something and that was all he could do.

He tried to win the game when other coaches would've given up as well, I'm happy he tried it and you should be as well.

That is so stupid. You can finish as low as 8th place and still get home ice? Retarded.

Re: Alaska Airlines Governors Cup UA vs. UAA Feb 25th & Feb 26th

Second round is 1-4 hosting 5 and the three winners of the first round. I think it's a bit screwy how 5 gets a bye but no home ice, but whatever. I think I'd rather they just do 1-5 hosting 6-10, and have 11 sit out.

Ya like I said I don't get it...but I'm sure it'll change if D-1 gets their big ten conference and it'll mix up all the conferences. Oh well

Uh maybe because a person from Fairbanks can shop, eat at different resturants, ski, enjoy some sights etc. Plenty to do for them in Anchorage. For me, in the spare time in Fairbanks, it's either sit in the hotel room or go to a bar, that's it.

Plus nobody at the Sully is coming up to you unprovoked to fight you because you have a UAF shirt on.

I think that's how it used to be done before UNO joined the league.

You obviously haven't explored Fairbanks cause there are plenty of places to eat(valatta, turtle club, silver gulch), ski (birch hill and moose mountain) and sights to see (Santa clause house, chena hot springs...)

And I'm sure if I was a guy, all the years I've traveled to anchorage, SOMEONE would have approached me. Few years ago I had some college students run by and he tried to rip up my sign that I had.

Re: Alaska Airlines Governors Cup UA vs. UAA Feb 25th & Feb 26th

Getting 5th place in the CCHA is about the worst anyone can hope for. To not get a playoff game on your own ice sucks. I have a pretty good feeling we will see the buckeyes in the first round considering the outcomes.

That was a pretty swift kick in the a** for Spanchorage. Brooms are packed for the trip tomorrow. SWEEP

And the ice art is officially under way here which has awesome things to see.

Um let's see, can't afford and they probably aren't that good, those are hills not mountains, and been there and been there. No place to hang out and kill time, well except movies I could watch here.
