Alaska Airlines Governors Cup UA vs. UAA Feb 25th & Feb 26th

Re: Alaska Airlines Governors Cup UA vs. UAA Feb 25th & Feb 26th

RICHARD!?!?!?

Is there any sort of gathering for Friday's nights game anywhere? I'd really like to get out of the house tomorrow night and watch the game amongst some other UAA fans.

I'm marrying one in June so I know they're not all bad. Fortunately I've turned her into a Nook fan several years ago. :-)

No one should ever, ever, ever, speak in absolutes. For example, I get quite upset when I hear someone say all Seawolf fans suck. I'm 100% sure not ALL Seawolf fans suck. Well, almost 100% sure anyway. I got your back. :)

Go Nooks!

Re: Alaska Airlines Governors Cup UA vs. UAA Feb 25th & Feb 26th

If any Seawolve fan was driving north they may want to give it careful thought. Winter storm warning in effect through Saturday morning, with 6-10 inches of snow and gusts up to 35mph, 45mph in the hills. :(

I've been watching road conditions around town since 4:00am. It really started getting nasty about 5:30 this morning.

If you drive, be careful and be prepared. Pack your emergency gear.
This may change a lot of Nook fans plans for heading south also.

Well, until after you are married anyway. ;)

Yup, I heard the warnings on the news last night and wondered how many fans also knew about the weather conditions. Thanks for the heads up.

i am defeated. :(
You ought to be use to it, you are a UAF fan...

Any predictions from people? I see a three point weekend for UAA. UAF I don't think is fast enough or talented enough to get by UAA's 1-4 and, like games in the past, they could easily get baited into playing towards UAA's style.

UAF not fast? Not too sure about that one.

This will probably be low scoring and defensive this year, and both teams are kind of limping in. Gunderson can probably steal a game for UAA. I'm going with a split and UAF keeping the cup in a shootout, followed by delivery of caribou remains from AH's freezer.

Ultimately it comes down to who gets better goaltending and who controls the pace and physicality. Two years ago UAA forced us into their game, last year we forced UAA into ours.

Should be an interesting weekend.

I agree that the goalies will play a big factor this weekend. If it comes down to a shootout UA_ has the advantage due to the CCHA's format.

Having said that, the UAA mens & womens B-ball teams took it to the Nanooks, I smell a Seawolf hat-trick!

And Seawolves, ignore that sign about "Glacial Punishment", the closest glacier to that relatively flat city of Fairbanks is 120 miles away! ;)

If Gundy is in net I like UAA's chances, he's quick enough side to side to do well in a shootout. How many breakaways has he stopped dead this season? 4? 5?

Re: Alaska Airlines Governors Cup UA vs. UAA Feb 25th & Feb 26th

Hope any Anchorage fans making the trip up are being safe!

Is the bus that was going to leave Fairbanks to go to Anchorage on Saturday still scheduled to head there despite the weather?

Hey JimmyJam, you may wanna take out that quote of mine from your signature since I am no longer attending school...and probably won't be going back to school for atleast another 4-5 years...just saying :)

Re: Alaska Airlines Governors Cup UA vs. UAA Feb 25th & Feb 26th

...as I left the Carlson last year, long after the Nooks had left the ice with the Governors Cup, I came across a forsaken little UAA water bottle all scuffed and discarded in the corner. Even though UAA players and Coaches left the ice with their heads down, they had somehow missed seeing it.

I felt bad that the Seawolves went home empty handed and thought it would be nice to give the team a little memento of their trip north. I took that little water bottle and crafted a runners up trophy as best I could. I'll leave it in the UAA team box tonight as long as Coach Shyiak promises to behave himself.

I took the liberty of adding a skate blade handle, because when you look at the penalty stats for last year, the water bottle had more ice time than half the UAA team. I hope it brings back memories. No thanks needed. I was happy to do it.

You better hope Shyiak doesn't find and throw that bottle, it could be deadly! ;) You know, me thinks somebody has too much time on his hands.

Shyiak made fun of himself at today's luncheon. Something about his manager tethering his water bottle and his wife making sure he goes to his anger management classes. He was about as personable as I have seen him. He did point out that there would be WCHA refs this year. Not sure if that is good, bad, or indifferent.

Probably good, they haven't been too terrible this season. And now that the linesmen rarely call penalties anymore we shouldn't have anything to worry about. ;)

WCHA for both games or just in Anchorage?

Re: Alaska Airlines Governors Cup UA vs. UAA Feb 25th & Feb 26th

They rotate conference referees year to year. Last year both games were reffed by CCHA knobs. This year it's the WCHA knobs turn.

It is a big deal, WCHA refs let them, you know, play hockey.
