Re: Alaska Airlines Governors Cup UA vs. UAA Feb 25th & Feb 26th

Not with 5minutes left. I have to agree with Suze and 99% of the hockey fans and say that was one of the worst coaching moves.

I think we should fire our coach for being a hot head AND incompetent. And fire AD/dean (whoever) for the 4 hour tv broadcast delay at home.

our PP looked awful, 0 shots 5 on 3 ... And looked weak defensively with those 2 goals. I think we need to take chances on the penalties and be more physical. or really slow the game down.... lot of side2side, front2back passing till Nanooks run of gas.

The TV delay is a three hour one, and in my opinion it isn't long enough. I believe too many fans are staying home and watching the games on TV for free rather than getting their butts to the arena. (One UAA student who was a HUGE hockey fan said he did exactly that in reply to Shasby's ADN letter). Not only do they show it same day delay, but they repeat it the next morning as well. How many Aces fans do you think would pay to attend their games if they could watch the games on TV for free? Nuff said. IMO, they need to do away with airing the home games completely. Attendance has dropped significantly since they started showing the games on TV.

But like mmf, nobody asked me.

That’s why you are a fan; I would have done the identical thing.

I think we should fire our coach for being a hot head AND incompetent. .
What did Butter bean do to you?
And fire AD/dean (whoever) for the 4 hour tv broadcast delay at home. .
I point the finger at you for that because you didn’t pony up the money and go to the game. Cheapskates can’t be picky. Forrest is doing a great job for basketball and volley ball now he needs to get “hands on” the hockey program and fix it also.

You really need to submit an application for a nanooks hockey coaching job.

Tundra is a UAA fan, he was talking about Shyiak, not Butter Bean.

See above.

Re: Alaska Airlines Governors Cup UA vs. UAA Feb 25th & Feb 26th

Down three goals. Maybe. Hell, why not?
Down two goals. Six minutes left. Nope. Lots of time left.

Remember, it was dreaded two goal lead. Why, I remember being down a goal once and then just flipping the puck into our own net, just to give the other team the dreaded two goal lead. Hey, maybe I can apply for the UAA job when it opens up. Again, how come nobody ever asks me?

CCHA playoffs (I think)
First round:
#1 - #5 get byes.
#6 - #8 host #9 - #11.

Second round:
#1 - #3 host winners of #6 - #11 matchups (#1 vs lowest surviving seed, etc).
And #4 host #5.
So if you're #5, you got a first round bye, but play your first series on the road.

Surviving four teams go to the Joe. Goofy.

Go Nooks!

I didn't say that was one of the worst coaching moves. I said he did it too early. There is a time and place for that kind of strategy, but our power play was horrible last night. Couldn't even generate a shot with a two minute/2 man advantage. I could see doing it had our pp been clicking, but it wasn't.

You can apply but you are in the same boat as Birdman…you are not moving.
If you did move you would be in the same boat as John Hill and have to move back in a year or so.

You better go ask

This big math crisis will be fixed in 2014 when the rest of the league bails, and all that is left is broken cookies and crumbs.

What a completely different outcome! Wow...each team looked completely opposite from last nights game. But very glad that the Nanooks remained the Governors Cup Champions, it may have been a win for UAA, but nothing like taking a little wind out of the Seawolves sail by winning the shootout!

Go Nooks!

Re: Alaska Airlines Governors Cup UA vs. UAA Feb 25th & Feb 26th

Governor's Cups
UAF - 10 ----- 4 via shootout after splitting the series
UAA - 8 ----- 1 via shootout after splitting the series

Without Shootouts
UAF - 6 Cups won outright
UAA - 7 Cups won outright

Be proud of your precious Shootout Cups. Cause they sure as heck aren't putting any dent in UAA's all time dominance over UAF.

UAF Hockey :: We WON the Shootout!!! <----- LMAO

Re: Alaska Airlines Governors Cup UA vs. UAA Feb 25th & Feb 26th

I was actually discussing this scenario with someone earlier in the week. I think that in the event of a tie at the end of 2 games, a third game at the second location should be played the next day.

With the CCHA format as it is, any shootouts obviously tilt the odds toward the Nanooks winning. UA_ has been in five shootouts prior to tonight. In the event of a split such as this weekend, I think they should wipe the scoreboard to 0-0 and go into overtime. The winning OT goal wins the Gov Cup. You could even do it NHL style where they play the OT 4 on 4.

Fun atmosphere tonight! However, I do need to say the way the Nanook students acted during the introduction of UAA's five seniors was disgusting and classless. I am all for good natured ribbing, but they yelled "What's a Seawolf" and pounded on the glass, making as much noise as they could during the ENTIRE presentation of our seniors. It was difficult to hear the announcer tell about each of the seniors accomplishments during their four years at UAA. There is no need for that kind of rudeness. Not a very good reflection on the University of Alaska if you ask me.

That is rude they did that during senior presentations...if it was during regular starting lineups i can understand, but I apologize for them that they did that during senior sendoff. Not cool.

I wish it went to three games or something else if the series ends in a 'tie'. Maybe the tournament outcomes in the beginning of the year can play some part, or SOMETHING...I hate shootouts.

I even think doing an overall goal differential should have some say in the winner...I dunno, something tho...haha

You act like UAF fans have some sort of say in keeping the determining factor of winning the Cup as a shootout...if there was another way, trust me, I'm sure most fans would favor it. But as it is, we won the Cup the way it has to be won when the weekend is split. So yes until there is a change in how a tie is broken, we will be proud that we won the Cup.

As you should be, but I feel winning it in that way really takes away from the whole rivalry.

And I agree and have posted that if there was another way, I'd probably be all for it.

Heck tho, it only feels like a rivalry thru the fans. Shyiak after the game on tv really kinda just blew it off like losing the cup didn't matter. I get he was proud of the win, UAA came out strong, especially compared to last night so he should be proud, but he really didn't seem to care and just wanted to move on to next weekends games.

of course he doesn't, and I agree with him. I would take a sweep of Und, duluth or Wisconsin over the gov cup.

I'm in favor a 20 Minute OT. Got to the locker rooms, clear the ice, play a 20 Minute OT. Give it a chance to be decided on the ice. The shootout makes it hollow either way.

And to the UAF guys who came over to the UAA section to rub it in, you're welcome. You're welcome to the fact that I gently pushed you out of there because plenty of people were ready to rumble so to speak.
