2024 Elections: One Last Chance for Democracy

kepler nails it. People look at gov and see “same ole same ole”. Pelosi and crew turn peeps noses. Even McConnell has become persona non grata within his own party. Any outsider has appeal to both left and right presidential voters…cause they can’t very well ever change their own reps

Aren't those the "centrist liberals" though? Who's the candidate for the lefty wing?

The lefty wing is a small % of the American voting public. If that’s who the D are recruiting for 2028 get ready to welcome don jr in as 48

The world is likely to alter so much coming out of this I don't think we have any sense who would be a good candidate. It may be just as likely to be an entertainer as a politician.

Enough people are unhappy with the status quo that we have this. This hasn't anything to do with Dump. It has to do with what passes for current political-economic structures being so neglectful of the average person that they will try literally anything else.

This isn't a transformative leap to authoritarianism, or to anything. It's a desperate leap from the configurations that are permitted by "serious" politics. A world where adult human beings vote for Dump and RFK Jr. and Jill Stein is a world that no longer works for anybody. This wasn't leaping into a tank marked Sturmabteilung, it was kicking a rotten tree stump in.

I can't believe I am agreeing with Kep on this take, but I am. After speaking with 100s of voters over the last 3 months in 3 states (two of them allegedly swing states), this is what I saw as the temperature of a lot of voters. Many, I believe, abstained this time around because they do not see any of this being for them or about them. Some, but very few I suspect, voted for third parties or wrote names in. And many who said they were voting for trump or other republicans despite being parts of demographics you would historically see as voting for democrats (women, people of color, union members -- both professional and not) they were not voting for bans on abortion or deporting illegal immigrants or authoritarianism, but instead voting that way out of sheer ignorance. And while most of that ignorance was brought on by their own choices to be ill- or miss-informed, or by being willfully blind, it was still ignorance.

Is this because we have so neglected education in this country for 40 years now that we are literally seeing American brains change? No one knows how to think critically anymore. I am surprised that 50% of Americans are not regularly having their checking accounts drained and their credit cards hacked by scammers.

When I was in junior high (7th/8th grades) in my little town in Michigan (a town and entire area that was then and is now reliably republican) I recall having a social studies/civics class that focused on the "hot spots" around the world in terms of geopolitics. We were learning important lessons as 13 year old kids. I did not go to some fancy private school either. I was educated entirely in public schools. Some of my classmates went on to college and graduate school. Some did not finish high school. Some, like me, took years to finish our college educations. I took a couple of extra terms for mine, H.W. Bush's and Clinton's. There was literally nothing extraordinary of special about our school system. But we were educated with a sense of there being something bigger than our back yards. Now people think there is nothing beyond the reach of a f uck ing selfie.

Of course it doesn't matter much if you voted for trump because you were a mouth breathing moron who didn't know better, or you are a trans-phobic bigot who wants all the Mexicans deported to South America and 100% tariffs on Chinese imports, we are all equally f cuk ed just the same.

Trix, you part of the GW "No Child Left Behind" era? Because your math skills are sh*t.

65,853,625 - Clinton 2016
73,736,923 - Harris 2024

I hadn't looked at how much the numbers changed since election day. She still lost the popular vote to Donald Trump with your braindead strategy so congrats.

Looks like Alaska will end up repealing Ranked Choice Voting after a whole two election cycles.
It's still pretty razor thin with some outstanding votes but yeah it looks like the Republicans will get what they want.
Updated vote count released today shows that the repeal effort is now failing. It's barely by a couple of hundred votes but it has flipped.

Phuck I hate being right...

Be safe brother the Nazis havent won yet.

Dear Jeb/Chuck/Drew/joe/the rest of you flaccid losers,

When the history of this country is written, you will be the ones seen as the evil rot that tried to destroy the Democracy. Your inability to talk to girls, get a boner, read a book or function as a normal member of society will be mocked and studied for generations! Your couching your shortcomings in Jesus and Guns will not only be the laughtrack to every history course, in every country for generations but will actually be the template for how to deal with pathetic losers who just can't accept that there are people with IQs over 12 and have to worship fake strongmen so they too can feel SMRT. You will go down with the Heaven's Gate People, the Branch Davidians and Scientologists as the redheaded stepchild of intelligent polite society. History shows you don't have the juice to last long enough to be anything but a footnote...and sooner or later we will write you out of history. This time there won't be any monuments, no forts named after you...all there will be is burned husks of your former selves wandering the wasteland of Texas or Florida or Mississippi wishing you hadn't burned every bridge. There will be no rebuilding (Climate Change will see to that) and no reconciliation and parole. Those who stand against Democracy will be branded the traitors they are and will be forced to watch as the rest of the country moves forward while they sit on the sidelines without any of the wonderful resources we provide. We will give you exactly what you want...no taxes, no federal outreach and no protection. No one will miss you, no one will lament the diversity of opinion, no one will even really notice. You will fade away into the shadows like Joe McCarthy did or you will kill yourself like Hitler did. Last time we were too nice to you guys and let it fester...in a need to unite the country we let the evil stay and bubble beneath the surface. Well no more! Take your guns, your Dodge Ram Trucks with the Punisher Symbol and the "Blue Lives Matter" decals, your Red MAGA hats and your terrible grammar and syntax and go away. Its closing time mutha****er and you may not want to go home but you can't stay here any longer! Have fun in Hungary you fascist dickless azzholes!

Right as in correct? Or to the Right as in where the MAJORITY of the USA wanted to go?

That didnt age well, but at least you got it off your chest. Feel Better?

When it's all said and done, I think Harris is going to win all 7 swing states. Trump has become so unglued in the last month, even by his rock bottom standards.

I'm not overconfident, I am just calling it as I see it. Kamala isn't Hillary, her ground game and energy are going to turn this into an EC landslide at the 11th hour, while Low T Trump continues to cancel appearances and make word salads going into the final weekend.

No need to editorialize.

It took 8 years, but people are finally seeing this clown for who he is and they are rejecting the toxicity he cultivates in society. If you are seen standing with him at this point, you truly will find yourself on a social island with just yourself and other people who are deemed "losers" and "uncool" by society as a whole.

A bunch of the Las Vegas Raiders were spotted on this island after a touchdown on Sunday.

If Selzer is right then we aren't talking about a 2012 style election...we are talking '08. You might be talking a severe Blue Wave...

I am here for it...but even my optimism has limits. But I won't lie I am starting to subscribe to Fade's "She wins all 7 Battleground States" theory based on early voting trends. Women are going to save The Republic.

Guess not enough were let out of the house by their husbands.

Updated vote count released today shows that the repeal effort is now failing. It's barely by a couple of hundred votes but it has flipped.

At least that is looking good. And Peltola is going to a run-off. Why is there even another Democrat running to siphon votes in the first round? Know when to coalesce.

To Pay Back $20 Million Campaign Debt, Kamala Harris Agrees To Fight Jake Paul | Babylon Bee

WILMINGTON, DE — After finding out how much money former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson made from his highly publicized Netflix exhibition fight, failed presidential candidate Kamala Harris announced plans to pay back her $20 million campaign debt by agreeing to fight Jake Paul early next year.

With her campaign severely in the red following her lopsided loss to Donald Trump this month, Harris had been searching for quick and easy ways to pay down the remaining debt, making a prize fight against Paul an appealing option.

"It's time for me to wipe that smug smile off Jake Paul's face and make a truckload of cash," Harris said in a statement announcing the fight. "If Mike Tyson can do it at the age of 58, I can do it at 60, am I right? HAHAHA! Besides, age is just a number. Campaign debt is a number. Numbers tell a story. But not with words. With numbers. And the story they tell is time. And the story of time is us. And that's why I'm going to fight Jake Paul in 2025 to get my campaign out of astronomical debt. You better get ready, Jake! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

A Harris-Walz insider revealed the campaign was hoping the proceeds from a match with Paul would yield enough revenue to make up for the exorbitant fees paid to celebrities like Oprah and Beyonce to appear and endorse what ended up being Harris's losing effort. "This could solve all of our problems," the source said. "Even if she loses — which, let's be honest, that's all she ever does — she'll come away with a cool $20 million. We'll all be looking forward to the loss this time around."

At publishing time, Harris's efforts to get her campaign out of debt had hit obstacles after Harris offered to pay John Legend and Julia Roberts $10 million each to help promote her fight with Paul.
