World Soccer XXX: We Have Men Too!

FIFA women’s survey: not great.

29% of players weren’t paid for qualifiers.
54% didn’t receive pre-tourney medical exams.
70%(!) didn’t receive a heart monitoring.
67% had to take unpaid leave to play in games.
Around 40% felt they didn’t have enough rest either before or between games.

Interestingly, despite all the above, they actually want more games. Or at least the Fifpro council does. Not happy about the fact that WC qualifying was co-opted as part of other tournaments. For example last year’s CONCACAF W tournament was also qualifying for the World Cup and Olympics.

UEFA is the only confederation that has a qualifying process that is separate from their confederational championship. And none of those tournaments have more than 12 teams in them.

To contrast the amount of games played in World Cup Qualifying the USMNT played 14 for 2022, 16 for 2018, 16 for 2014, and 18 for 2010 while the USWNT played 3 for 2023 (plus two more for the Olympics), 4 for 2019 (plus one for the final), 4 for 2015 (plus one for the final), and 7 for 2011 (because they had to go to a intercontinental playoff).

Pulisic hits back at Berhalter critics.

I just have to give credit where credit's due and it does frustrate me a little bit, and just seeing just all the negative press towards him that people tell me about, and I can't fully understand it exactly," Pulisic told ESPN's Herculez Gomez in an interview for Futbol Americas.

"He's come in and won the Nations League, won the Gold Cup, we win the Nations League again. Had a solid World Cup. Are there things that you can criticize here and there? Sure. And I think he'd agree with that, but it just seems a bit crazy to me."

That total MLS/SUM shill Christian Pulisic. (/s)

Yeah this. There’ll be plenty of non Euro clubs including at least one MLS team in Seattle and likely one more at least.

So with the expansion to 32 teams, this will be a full-on Pool Play then Eliminations type tournament. Will top Euro clubs send/play their best for their 4-5-6 matches? I get that there will be some massive underdogs, but this should be mostly competitive, right?

I feel like it should be. It'll be dependent on how serious the Euro teams take the tournament.

mookie will be praying his beloved Ujpest makes it!!!

Jamaica has a very good team and is honestly an outside favorite for this tournament. Be interesting to see if this US team can recover.

Jamaica blew that one last night. Could have gone up 2-0 early, but missed the wide open net off the penalty save. Then gave up the late equalizer. Group winner will probably come down to who can run it up the most the next two games because I don't see either team not winning against T&T or SK&N.

JFC has QSMNT Twitter (the new nickname from reporters for USMNT Twitter crazies) gone off the deep end.

Someone, an apparent “insider” and “friend of McKennie”, has reported that interim coach BJ Callaghan was forced to change his lineup by Gregg Berhalter and Univision reported this live on air. Univision, appropriately, says What TF are you talking about, we never did that. QSMNT responds that they’re lying because the USSF is forcing them to.

But of course, no one has this DVR'ed =)

Well Trinidad beat St. Kitts 3-0. Haiti welcomed Qatar by beating them 2-1 and Mexico is currently taking Honduras to the woodshed 4-0.

Canada Soccer “on verge of bankruptcy”.

How does that happ…
Canada Soccer officials have also been in talks with the private company Canadian Soccer Business (CSB) in recent months to renegotiate a controversial media and sponsorship agreement that was signed in 2018.

According to that contract, which will be in place through 2037 if CSB decides to extend an initial 10-year deal, CSB pays Canada Soccer an annual fee of between $3-$4 million.

In exchange, the private company, which is owned and controlled by Canadian Premier League (CPL) team owners, receives all of the revenue from the national teams' media rights and sponsorships.

Oh.
