World Soccer XXX: We Have Men Too!

In a world of exponentially increasing sports media rights they decide to sign on a 10-20 year fixed deal on the cusp of a World Cup bid?

If I remember right during World Cup qualifying they were asking everyone to give back their warm ups and team gear after the game like some high school team in case the rosters changed for the next match.

;n3817122]The two biggest games this year for the USMNT were on the 5th best streaming service, so let's not get all high and mighty about TV deals.
That's a CONCACAF deal not US Soccer. US Soccer has zero control over the TV Rights for CONCACAF tournaments and who CONCACAF sells them to.

The CONCACAF Nation's League deal is with CBS. The same as the USMNT deal. Yet... it goes to Paramount+ because US men's soccer is just a toy in trying to draw people to the 5th (at best) streaming service.

I can watch 3rd league bundesliga friendlies easier than US residents can watch the biggest match of the year.

But tell us more about how US men's soccer is the best.

Do you have any idea how broadcasting rights work?

US Soccer controls the rights to all friendly matches and World Cup Qualifying home matches. That’s it, nothing more. Those rights were bought by Turner and why friendlies are on TNT and Max.

CONCACAF controls and sells the rights to all their tournaments including the Nations League Finals. They sold those rights to Paramount who uses those rights to drive subscriptions to Paramount+.

You wanna blame anyone for not being able to watch the games, blame CONCACAF and Paramount, not US Soccer.

I worked for 10 years negotiating Tier 1, 2, and 3 athletic broadcast rights within the US, so yeah I might have a slight idea how they work.

The Nation's league finals could have been on broadcast and while Concacaf owns blame, so does US Soccer.

US soccer is getting 3 million a year for the next 8 years from Warner. They’re getting an undisclosed amount from Comcast for Spanish language rights on Telemundo. I don’t know what all the trickle down is from the CONCACAF tournaments but even in 2017 it didn’t seem smart to sign off on a flat fee for 20 years (especially when it’s the corporation, not Canada Soccer, that has the option to extend).

How tf does US Soccer own blame to something they don’t control?

Small correction: US Soccer is getting $25 million a year from Warner.

Women’s World Cup - US (with NED, POR, and Vietnam) is in the group of death in Group E by average ranking (1, 9, 21, and 32), but that’s only because Vietnam is not a disastrous fourth team like other groups have. One of only two groups with two top ten teams, but the other is France and Brazil (5 and 8) who get to be paired with 43rd Jamaica and 52nd Panama.

By median ranking that is Group D with England, Denmark, China, and Haiti. That’s 4, 13, and 14 along with 54. No other group has three teams under 20th, though Group E just barely misses, as does Group B with Canada 7th, Australia 10th, Ireland just outside at 22nd and the best African squad in Nigeria at 40th.

Thanks for confirming that you don't know how broadcast deals work.
And you do? Because you don’t seem to understand “US Soccer does not control the rights to those matches”.

Do you believe that UND has no influence on the NCHC/CBS Sports broadcast schedule?

That Michigan won't have influence on which football games will be on what channels or streaming sources?

The deals weren't signed with these individual schools, but you show your lack of knowledge by saying US Soccer had no choice in where the game was shown.

JFC you have zero clue how this works for International Soccer.

US Soccer had no choice in where the game was shown. The US is 1 vote out of 41 and the other 40 will always vote for whatever will make them the most money US Soccer’s opinion be d-ned. And the US can’t just up and leave to a new Confederation if they’re unhappy like Michigan and UND can.

Then why does CBS sometimes puts the Final Four on TNT instead of CBS?

Then why does ABC put the college football playoffs on ESPN instead of ABC?

Don't the schools participating in those championships have a say? Oh wait, they don't!

Fun fact: It used to be a lot worse less than two decades ago.

The Gold Cup had zero availability on English TV until 2005, and even then it was only US games and they were only available on Fox Soccer. And even Univision only broadcast US games on their subchannel to drive ratings.

World Cup Qualifiers could be pretty bad too. The US qualified for 2010 after winning in Honduras in a game that was only on Pay Per View.

Oh heck, "back in my day" the World Cup could only be viewed in movie theaters and sports arenas with large screens setup. Seriously. I think I still have the advertising cards for the Madison Square Garden airings.

Ugh, I can imagine. That’s why I was always so thankful for even Fox Soccer.

On a slightly different front:

MLS nearing subscriber threshold for revenue sharing.

“MLS sources confirmed the league is nearing Apple’s required subscription threshold that kick-starts an agreement for the company to share subscription revenue with MLS,” wrote Evans. “The league’s players, per terms of the new CBA, would also receive 12.5% of the increase in media revenue this year if the amount exceeds $100 million of the 2022 media compensation, which was about $65 million when excluding fees paid to the USMNT.”

Kinda pierces the whole “the ratings are terrible and Apple is about to use their opt out clause” narrative QSMNT has been building.
