Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

So if the friendly was against Mexico would you feel the same way about it just being a friendly? ;)

If you have to play them, you might as well win them.

I really could care-less. I'm scared to death that David Silva or another City player will get hurt this weekend in their friendlies.

For the USA vs. Mexico...obviously thats a different story. However, for that one I say play it in New England or Buffalo NY...let the MExican team freeze their butts off and we may actually have MORE AMERICANS there!!!

So you do care. :p

The real problem is that JK has no idea what sort of performance he can expect from a combination of Donovan and Dempsey going into qualifying. He'll be flying blind.

When you say:
They're as useful as preseason NFL games.
I think you're right, but I also think you're severely underrating the usefulness of NFL preseason games.

LA - Toronto and Seattle - Santos Laguna are the CCL quarterfinals featuring MLS sides, both on the same side of the bracket.

Fulham-Spurs from a few years ago on FSC. For a moment, I was convinced that Dmitar Berbatov was actually John Cazale.

It'll be hard to predict any outcome of those series right now just because of what has to happen before they are played. Who will any of these teams lose in the expansion draft? Is Beckham coming back? What does Seattle do, what does Toronto do?

Being a Sounders fan I'll say that Seattle will either a) Dominate everyone in MLS and potentially make the CCL Final or b) Completely blow up and go nowhere.

To elaborate further on this...

TFC, I think will have a stable roster for the most part. Maybe a loss in the expansion draft, maybe an addition at defense. Frings and Koevermans aren't leaving, so they're stable and we're playing ok at the end of the season.

Seattle, has Keller retiring, an almost certain loss to somebody in the expansion draft (big debate in Seattle right now is who to protect), potentially Alvaro Fernandez leaving (but this would free up a DP slot and bring in a huge chunk in allocation money), and potentially Osvaldo Alonso leaving. Zakuani looks to return but who knows how well he will be when he comes back. There's a few questions in Seattle for sure. Who do they replace Keller with? Will the third DP slot be used and on who? Can they shore up their backline?

As for LA, they have even bigger questions: Is Beckham staying? Is Donovan staying? If not, who do they bring in? Do the Brazilian players stay on loan or will they be recalled? I just wonder if things are gonna start to fall for LA. If Donovan leaves on a transfer it would be interesting to see how much allocation money they would get.

I didn't watch (can't stomach any more Spurs right at the moment), but if I had to guess, I'd say it was probably that crazy 3-3 match from fall 2007 where Diomansy Kamara scored a ridiculous looping bicycle kick in stoppage time to tie it up. Crazy how much turnover Fulham have had since then - only Clint Dempsey, Simon Davies and Chris Baird played in that match and are still with Fulham.

All 4 Euro Qualifiers (Ireland-Estonia, Turkey-Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina - Portugal, and Montenegro- Czech Republic) on ESPN3 today. Also US-France on ESPN2.

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

Well the USA got a bit of a gift in the 54th minute and an amazing save by Howard in the 55th

Get ready for some torture in Pyongyang as North Korea gets eliminated by Uzbekistan.

only a year and a half after their greatest moment in sporting history? I wonder what the record time is from world cup final to elimination from the subsequent tournament there is (aside from administrative withdrawl or non-participation).

They'll just rebroadcast the goal against Brazil and say they won the 2014 World Cup as well.

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

Well, he doesn't make me reflexively say that it's a bad idea. At the same time... is there a proven winner at the college level who'd be interested in moving up? (Perhaps not.)

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

Apparently Slovenia feels bad for US/Klinsmann, given up one goal and one probably-should-have-been-a-goal in the first ten minutes.

Re: World Soccer XXI: Don't Tread on the Red, White, and Blue

2?! 2 goals!

Edit: 3? We're not scoring again til 2013.
