It matters a heck of a lot. If the touch was imperfect enough that a defender was going to beat him to the ball, then it's no longer an OGSO. Obviously, that was not Busacca's judgment, and he certainly did have a very good angle to make that decision.

Also be aware that in the USSF, from my understanding, they make a bigger deal about direction; in a USSF game, a red might not have been appropriate in that situation because Suarez was moving away from the goal.

Right, "imperfect" doesn't mean "50/50 ball." The scales tipping more towards a scoring chance than a defensive play is what I meant, as opposed to "he is 100% going to score."

Those of you thinking that scoring seems to be low even for soccer would be right. Through the 1st set of games in 2002, 46 goals were scored (8 by Germany) First set of games +1 extra for the host Germans in 2006, 40. Games so far in 2010- 26.

If it's a pirate marketing campaign, would the chick in front be drinking a Coke? :p

Sad to see South Africa crash out like that today.

They need to beat France (by any score), and hope Mexico has no more points than 3 draws in order to advance at this point.

They need a France-Mexico draw tomorrow, then they need to beat France, and hope Mexico loses/draws against Uruguay.

Difficult, but with the way France has played, I'm not as ready to declare them dead as the ESPN guys are.

By the way, Holger Badstuber is another contender for having the awesomest most German-sounding name.

The 4 D's: Direction of play, Distance to the ball, Distance to the goal, number of Defenders.

That is a good one.

Needs more syllables, though.

argentina up 2-1 at the half. argentina gifted one to south korea right before the halftime whistle to make it more of a match... argentina have benefited from an own goal, while higuain beat an offside trap to nod in a relatively easy chance...

higuain gets his second of the match, cleaning up after messi knocks his own rebound off the post and behind the keeper... higuain may have been offside

and moments later, higuain heads home for the hat trick... nice ball movement in the build-up...

higuain leads the tournament with three goals... first hat trick in the world cup since pauleta got one in 2002 and the first for argentina since gabriel batistuta posted one against jamaica in 1998

First game I've listened to so far that you can hear the crowd chanting and singing over the vuvuzelas. Sounds like they have been able to remove most of the noise from the broadcast.

Hey, Greece - the World Cup has started. Might want to send your team down to South Africa soon!

Ambush marketing and brand protection is a serious issue. Let's say you are the marketing EVP for Budweiser and you had spent millions of dollars to become an official World Cup Sponsor (to have exclusive rights to the beer category).

Then some two-bit Dutch brewery who didn't pay for those rights just sends 30 hot models into the stadium, all wearing the same provocative outfits designed to draw serious media attention (which is exactly what happened, prompting the arrests).

If I were that marketing EVP for Bud, I'd be ticked off...
