that greek pu$$y should have gotten a red card for diving. they want to stop diving, kick out some fools.

It wasn't the dive that prompted the red, it was the Nigerian player kicking at the Greek. It doesn't excuse the reaction by the Greek, but that was belligerently stupid and Kaita absolutely deserved being sent off.

Greece gets today's "Goalkeeper Cock-Up of the Day" award.

Well, he just redeemed himself. Unfortunately his team then followed it up with the "Offensive Cock-Up of the Day."

Ambush marketing and brand protection is a serious issue. Let's say you are the marketing EVP for Budweiser and you had spent millions of dollars to become an official World Cup Sponsor (to have exclusive rights to the beer category).

Then some two-bit Dutch brewery who didn't pay for those rights just sends 30 hot models into the stadium, all wearing the same provocative outfits designed to draw serious media attention (which is exactly what happened, prompting the arrests).

If I were that marketing EVP for Bud, I'd be ticked off...

If they hadn't been arrested and detained for three hours, would anyone have noticed? No.

And as others have pointed out, there is absolutely nothing on those skirts advertising anything. There aren't any logos of any kind. They actually stand out in that regard - attire at a sporting event devoid of the Nike swoosh or another form of branding.

You know how many people knew about the Dutch Brewery during the game? Do you know how many would have known about the Dutch Brewery after the game if they did nothing?

Yep. Epic Fail World Cup Security.

And that is offside. Even though he's not participating that's the whole reason the defense was high like that, knowing a ball in would be called offside. I hate the "non-participating" rule sometime.

Plus it's the national team colors anyway - it's not like they all got together and decided to wear colors definitively associated with a brand (e.g. green for Heineken).

Game note: when the guys with the orange vest rushed in toward the goal scorer, I thought he was being tackled by security for some reason. Then I realized they were the subs...

Hey, Greece - the World Cup has started. Might want to send your team down to South Africa soon!

LynahFan,

Thank you for notifying us that the World Cup had started! Without you we would have never known it was time for the match to start with all the vuvuelza blowing and ambushing of the stadiums.

On behalf of our entire country, we thank you and those two goals in the second half are dedicated to you.

Signed,

The Greece National Team

I agree with TBA here... the Dutch Brewery is getting WAY more attention now because the World Cup brought attention to the situation and told us who these chicks were supposedly trying to advertise for...all i saw was hot dutch chicks in orange...now I know about some brewery I'd never heard of before because they got detained. Seriously, the World Cup did the marketing for the Dutch Brewery.

30 models all sitting together in the same short-skirted uniform?

People noticed it, and asked questions, which is how the arrests happened.

The Dutch Brewery got exactly what it wanted.

Who are those hot chicks...sure, but I doubt anyone was asking "what are they trying to sell"

Nigeria basically becomes the first team eliminated from the WC. I know they still have a slight chance, but not only having to beat North Korea but do it by two goals will be tough and then hope that Greece can't get a point from Argentina.

South Africa is also up against the wall so the African sides are in trouble in the early groups.

Can't wait for the Mexico/France game! Allez les Blues...I hate saying that, but obviously not cheering for the dirty sanchezes.

For Uruguay and South Africa's sake I'm hoping they tie.

I'm looking forward to this one as well. Something bad will happen to France, to Mexico, or, if we're really lucky, to both. What's not to love? :D

I think he was being held on by someone else as well, not just the guy lying on the ground.

The goal-scorer was onside because of someone. But the Greece guy on the ground was actually offside, just inactive.

Wrong. The guy who kept him onside was on the ground right near the non-participating guy (who was in an offside position but had ZERO impact on the play). Horrid misfortune for Nigeria, as the defenders who were on their feet and pulled up presumably didn't realize the guy was down and blowing their line.

Right. And you want to do away with that part of the rule? Why?

Right. And you want to do away with that part of the rule? Why?

Because there is never truly a situation where a guy doesn't participate. The goalie is often having to think about the angles on the pass, even if the guy is offside, the linesman might miss it, etc.

Even if you factor out both the Nigerian lying on the ground and the Greek alongside him, there is another Nigerian holding the Greek onside. Pause this video at the 44 second mark:

In and around the box, maybe so. But if you do away with the passive offside exception, you would get a lot more offside calls nearer the halfway line as well, which would be pointless.

I remember soccer before, and that's not what seemed to happen back then.

Where I live, you can get yourself slapped if you go up to a hot chick in a short skirt and ask her what she's selling.

Allez les Bleus!
