Obviously Spain dominated play, but I don't think Honduras can hold up like Switzerland did. Spain will be rooting for a draw between Chile and Switzerland...

A straight red for violent conduct generally carries at least one game of additional suspension (like a DQ vs. a game misconduct in hockey).

However, a straight red for serious foul play does not, and I doubt they would add on for the Cahill foul. I could be wrong, though.

VC = off the ball, not involved in a direct challenge on the ball
SFP = on the ball, involved with a direct challenge on the ball

I was just confused because I thought I heard Cahill is out for the next two games and that's why Australia is appealing to FIFA...

This is for me, the worst set of first group match games I have seen. I watched 1990, 1994,1998,2002 and 2006.

are coaches nowadays having a huge impact in terms of formations, etc? too conservative? parity?

well that's an unfortunate deflection

and there you have it, i think 1-0 will be the final in this one.

Give it some time. Most teams have been playing for the draw in their first game trying to at least get a point.

I think we're going to see things start to open up a bit more in the second round of group play now that teams have started to feel each other out and find where they stand and desperation etc starts to become prevalent.

I've been entertained by pretty much every match I've watched so far. The Ivory Coast/Portugal and Spain/Switzerland games were tremendous.
