make it three of us then...

They're my third favorite after USA and Scotland (hey, they're international!).

I know it's early to be looking at the bracket, but I can't help but look at who will finish 2nd behind Holland in group E. Doesn't look like a real strong team at the moment. If Italy gets their stuff together as they usually do, I see them winning group F and advancing to the Quarterfinals against Spain.

Oh really... a - hole! This is my response. (It's been done before, but I don't care.)

Still say this should be our national anthem. And The Sex Pistols' version of "There'll Always Be an England" should be theirs, and Waltzing Matilda for the Aussies. And for the Kiwis, this I guess.

I guess the goal scorer's parents will be let out of prison. :D

Until they win a game, however, he has not escaped getting his testicles electrically shocked.

Chile and Honduras is actually going back and forth. Hopefully we get some goals really soon.

I'm loving the pace of this game.

Earlier I asked the trivia question about the three teams that had their entire roster come from their own domestic league.

I think North Korea might have fooled a few people, but the answer is Germany, England and Italy.

The team that has no players from their own domestic league is Nigeria.

I thought I heard that NZL doesn't even have a domestic league? Or did I hear that wrong?

I think their situation is kind of like Canada's, NZL has a few pro teams, but they play in the Australian A League.

I thought they said yesterday that Ivory Coast had no players from their domestic league either.

One of the African commentators on BBC was bemoaning both this (it's apparently close to true for many of the African nations) and also a trend where African nations are hiring non-African managers.

Who is the favorite?

I think Sanchez played that up a bit.

You're right about New Zealand. They have guys who play for Kiwi teams in the A-League. They also have a couple players from their own New Zealand Football Championship, which must be more of a Second Division league.

Ivory Coast has a third string keeper from their domestic league. I can see where the announcers would ignore him. They might have also meant starters.

Since Great Laker Mohawk calls me the designated goon for "Down Goes Brown," the latest offers a hockey fan's guide to watching the World Cup. :D

On the surface, the World Cup is actually quite similar to the NHL. But while there are several difference, many are subtle and may prove confusing for novice fans. That's why I put a call out to DGB's various international bureaus, and together we put together this guide for hockey fans hoping to follow the World Cup action over the coming month.

The World Cup: If you see a guy wearing flamboyant clothing who is struggling to communicate with you in English, he is likely a diehard fan who was travelled from an exotic foreign land to attend the game.
The NHL: If you see a guy wearing flamboyant clothing who is struggling to communicate with you in English, he is likely Don Cherry.

The World Cup: The sport is called "football", although Americans often refer to it as "soccer".
The NHL: The sport is called "hockey", although Americans often refer to it as "something to watch if there's no baseball, football, basketball, golf, Nascar, poker, MMA, fishing or bowling on TV".

I want to take a minute to compliment ESPN on their studio commentary. Before the tournament, I was complaining about Tommy Smyth and the rest of their know nothings, but they've really pulled out the quality for this one. I've enjoyed Ruud, Klinnsmann and the others. Only McManahman rubs me the wrong way. Lalas is annoying as usual, but at least he's toned it down. Having great soccer minds sitting next to him must help. I've particularly enjoyed the couple times it's looked like Ruud wants to strangle Lalas and yell, "If you don't know anything about football, shut-up!!"

There must be something about the camera placement at this pitch, all of the players look really short.

You aren't allowed to say anything positive about E$PN on this site. :p

No, I unlocked the "short stuff" cheat that turns all the players into midgets.
