Wisconsin Women's Hockey 2023-2024

With the score tied 1-1 in the third between Colgate and Cornell in the ECAC semi, Badger transfer Dara Greig had the second and third goals and an assist on the fourth goal for Colgate, in a 5-1 final.

Yay Dara!

I really wish she's have stayed at WI....but glad she's doing great at Gate.

It's pretty crazy that they can have such a bad period and then turn around like a whole another team for two more. That's the kind of formula that's going to get you beat in the postseason. It sure seems to me like Minnesota had obviously been playing our breakout really well in period 1 and they knew where the puck was going to go on the breakout. The Badgers must have made adjustments but I'm not much of x and ol guy to pick up on that.

absolutely. If they play a full 60 this team is terrifying for opponents. Not easy but you can’t give Harvey the puck either. A couple times Minn D were just too rushed to give up the puck and ended up right with Harvey, both in the offensive and defensive zone.

McNaughton gave up a TON of rebound chances. I don't know if the Gophers were doing something intentional to generate them - shooting low, etc. so she couldn't use her glove - but that's gotta get better.

UM's biggest problem in recent years versus UW is that the players panic when they have full possession of the puck and just throw it somewhere, anywhere. At best, such attempts barely get out of the zone and are sent right back in. At worst, they are on the tape of an opponent with bad intentions. People can fault Vetter for not sealing the post on the tying goal, but when you force your goalie to move under duress over and over again for more than two periods, eventually, she will make mistakes. I thought that goaltending was the main reason that the contest lasted as long as it did.

There are still two weeks to go, and I've seen the Badgers improve defensively right down to the wire enough times to understand that it's a big part of their success. Right now ... I don't see them winning a championship game 1-0. Of late, the Gophers have little punch outside of the top line and the PP, and once Kaiser was out, that was even more true. There are better offenses ahead. UW can still add another NCAA crown, but to do so, it will need to either win a scoring contest, get a more steady performance in net, and/or tighten up over all 200 feet of its team D.

Absolutely, Vetter was fantastic yesterday.

I just looked at the USA worlds roster camp invite. For active college players it’s 7 Badgers, 1 Gopher, 4 Buckeyes and 1 Nittany Lion if we just look at the big ten schools.

Shocking number for Minnesota considering it’s Minnesota.

Pretty shocking number for Wisconsin, in the other direction. Clearly UW is a favorite among the best American players coming out of high school, and the feeling from USA Hockey towards UW is mutual.

While OSU doesn’t necessarily get them out of high school, they get them eventually. Among active players only Cornell also has 4 USA camp invites.

Today’s game should be fantastic.

During a break in the first period of the UW men's game (vs Ohio State), they put the women's score and 'the championship photo' up on the video board at the Kohl Center, and it drew a good loud cheer from the crowd.

Hi Badger fans, new on this site, huge weekend by the Badgers... I thought it was awesome to see Gorbatenko getting heavily spotted into the rotation this weekend- anyone else? She seemed to have a great physical presence and did the little things right. Hoping to see her switch into one of the lines permanently- maybe with Picard and Woznewicz?

Also, loved to see Mcnaughton get the nod for both games this weekend. With the importance put on the games this weekend, I was relieved when I saw her get announced in the starting lineup. I thought the team could be more offensive with her back there giving the team more confidence. I would love to see her keep the net the rest of the playoffs because she proved she is ready.

Also nice to see Laila net a few huge goals this weekend. She had a great game against tOSU and was a great two-way player for our Badgers.

Would love to hear what the rest of you all think.

badgers own the gophers goalie I think she has one win out right against the Badgers in the last two years And always loses in overtime

The one that gets me is Madeline Wethington. Last year in overtime in the Frozen Four, she dove to stop Caroline Harvey's game-winner and arrived a hair too late. In February, she was the one tackling Laila Edwards as she put a highlight reel goal in backwards in overtime. And Friday, Lacey Eden spun away from her and slid the game winning backhand between her legs. She's been the closest Gopher to three game-winning overtime goals and failed to stop them by a combined fourteen inches or so.

The email confirming NCAA tickets says they won't be 'emailed' until Monday PM. But locations for my tickets are already 'available' in the Badger app. (I did OK, not great; 3rd row top of the north end faceoff circle.)

Also, there's no mention of the Thursday game; that is, the ticket doesn't appear to be for both games. That must mean tickets are not required at all for Thursday.

Welcome to the board! Great to have another Badger fan on board with us. I love the fact that Gorbetenko's been all over the place in the lineup in a good way. Wisconsin's going to a power forward with Britta leaving. I agree it was good move to go with Ava. But I do feel bad for Jane however. Laila has come a long way this year.

Laila won the MVP of the U19 championships, played in Madison in 2022. The player who might just as easily been named MVP, Tessa Janecke, comes back to town with Penn State.

I had that wrong. Thursday tickets are separate from any Saturday ticket order, Thursday tickets - as well as general public Saturday tickets - go on sale Monday morning 9 AM. (I don't think Thursday's ticket will a tough one to get :-).

We're going to be over in section 15. I'm just happy to be at the game after having headaches over the years trying to get tickets for this type of game. I am pounding on whether or not to go see St Lawrence play Penn State. Not sure if I can pull it off I have a pretty busy week of evenings with the things going on so I don't know....

Personally I couldn't be happier with this draw. Did not want to face UMD.

I'm not going to make the Saturday game as I'll be out of town- but I'm going to try to make the Thursday game- goals being 1) watching hockey in LaBahn which is always a treat 2) giving these two teams a great atmosphere that they may not always get and hopefully a great memory!

See you there!
