Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Way to go UW!!!! Another shutout with some great D shutting down the highpowered rodents and ARD had some huge saves.

Really dustbin didn't have to work that hard, the skaters made some amazing plays, I counted 6 blocked shots in one flurry, at least 3 of them would have reached the back of the net if a Badger had not sacrificed her body to stop it. This was the first MN/WI game I can remember in a very long time that I didn't think I had seen two top teams playing their best. In the past, even when the wrong team won I felt it was an excellent game all around. Way too many mistakes in this session. WI deserved to win & they did so congratulations on the hardware and worse luck next time ;)

Dustbin? I guess I kinda deserve that for calling the rodents rodents, but technically gophers are rodents, but anyway..... That one sequence you type of was insane with all the blocks. I watching for the puck to hit the endboards, ARD or the back of the net, but it never got there. UW played just about a flawless D game as they could have had against the rodents. Winning this game was great, but the only game I really care about is the probable match up in 2 weeks. Having the last change will be huge.

I'd like to know if the lack of O in the 3rd by WI was the gameplan to play ultra-conservative or if it was totally the rodent pressure that dictated the play.

Based on a 5 point system:
I give the Gophers 1.5 points for offensive pressure, and UW 3.5 points for gameplan and playing with a lead.

I asked about this in the post-game presser - Johnson basically said it wasn't what he wanted. There had been a question about the penalty kill and then I pointed out that the team was basically on a penalty kill for the final eight minutes and asked what he says to the girls when they're on the PK for half a period and he said "I was trying to get them to the other end!" He said he stressed during the final two tv timeouts that carrying the puck into the offensive zone and putting pressure on Minnesota on the far end were important. He wanted them to cut down neutral zone space and not allow Minnesota to build momentum entering the zone. "They weren't listening to me too well."

you've probably heard that a 2 goal lead is the toughest to hold

well then, imagine how tough a one goal lead is to hold

No, you deserve that for calling Ms Raty, "the rat". Technically Badgers are members of the skunk family, so, your point? I really didn't think the Badgers played that well on Sunday, had they played to their ability I think they would have won bigger because I didn't think the Gophers played as well as they could either & was wondering if they all were a bit too 'tight'. Win or lose I hope they both do us all proud in New Hampshire, they are both better than shown this weekend.

If you want to go to Saturday's game and you haven't bought a ticket yet, act very fast. The website shows there is exactly 1 seat still available (right in front of the band).

I'd be curious how many were snapped up by season ticket holders with the pre-sale process. I requested 4 (I don't remember seeing a limit I could request) and looks like I got all four. Going down to will-call today to verify number and location. Even though afternoon is more family friendly, I like the 7:00 start time as it seems more primetime. The NCAA quarterfinal games are always a blast.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Had a blast up in Minneapolis for the WCHA tourney. Didn't spend as much time on campus as I wanted so couldn't check out the bar/restaurant scene like I expected. While I was able to get some of my family to go with me, they weren't up for any pre/post game activities.

Really wasn't sure what to expect from UMD in the semis and they just couldn't match the energy from the Badgers at all. Stayed for the first two periods of Minnesota/UND. Thought maybe No Dak could put up a little better fight, but Gophers dominated puck possession and could have put up several more. I missed the UND 5-on-3 to start the 3rd, but from what I read it was a mess. Props to North Dakota though for sending a band and a pretty good fan turnout. Wasn't sure what to make of the North Dakota dude that was skating with the flag. I kind of expected him to start flying around on the ice pre-game similar to Bucky, Goldy and Chomp/Champ (?). Instead I feared he was going to fall on his head and/or break his ankles.

It seems like there has been some chirping about how the title game wasn't well-played by either team. I know that there was only 1 goal scored, but I wasn't that surprised by how the game played out. Was pleasantly surprised that the Badgers came out with a lot of energy. My fear of again getting down 2-0 early fortunately didn't pan out. After that, it was pretty tightly played which seems pretty par for the course between these two teams. One thing I noticed from the Badgers that they didn't give up any clean breakaways all weekend and very few 2-on-1s. That has been a bit of an issue this season. Fortunately, Desbiens has cleaned most of those up. Give those up against the Gophers and you will get lit up. Badgers did a very good job of minimizing those in the title game. There were some rebounds to be had, but either they were cleared out, blocked or no Gopher in position to put it home.

Had to be one of the most satisfying wins for the seniors. First win against Minnesota at Ridder and at least temporarily slowing the narrative that the Gophers are clearly the better team with Kessel back in the line-up. If they meet again, Wisconsin knows they can beat them instead of just hoping/thinking they can.

Little surprised that there wasn't a bigger crowd for the title game. Maybe it's the Sunday afternoon start or that single-session prices were relatively a little pricey ($15/$12-ish). Not really sure...

First win at Ridder (I'm pretty sure) since "Kelly Nash", which gives us the excuse to watch the video one more time. My favorite part is the stick flip.

I'm just abbreviating calling her RAT like I abbreviate Anne Renee's to ARD. Gotta save the keystrokes. ;)

I pre-ordered my tickets and I do believe for the first time I got the seats I asked for. Usually they stick me where-ever, all the big dollar badger fund people get my preferred seats. Maybe I benefited from the pre-ordering, which I did right away when they sent out the email and my season ticket history got me where I wanted to be. I am so looking forward this game, it's one of the highlights of the year for me. I appreciate the team being good enough to get home ice.

I believe it's more a matter of timing than anything. For the last two years, I got the number and location of tickets that I requested for the NCAA quarterfinal game. I literally give the minimum amount to the Badger Fund to be officially considered a donor. I really like the fact that they give season ticket holders a first crack at tickets.

I really don't mind as I mash names on purpose myself so I was really just poking you in retribution. I have a lot of respect for Ms Desbien, its a tough job and she does it well. That is a heck of a thing she & your Badgers have done this year.

We got our regular seats for the first round but that is not was not the case with the finals were here. I assume we got them now because they are not on the bench side which is the more 'premium' side (I prefer the other side so I can see into the bench) and the first round is not as much in demand.

You could be right, though when I called to request certain seats the gal on the phone said the badger fund people to first choice. I guess no one wanted my seats. I did pre-order online the day they were available. At any rate, it sold out in like 26 hrs, amazing (BC probably can't give tickets away:)). Maybe they should pencil this weekend into the KC schedule next year. I wonder if the bowl would have filled? The negative side to playing at KC is it would take the players and staff out of the regular routine, which I know coaches are addicted to.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

I read Arlan's preview of the ncaa field (well done I must say!) and he mentioned that UW has a bad habit of coming out flat the week after a big series win, a thought that I had previously subscribed to. UW better come out guns a glazing and not allow that to happen this week. I think they have learned from that and will be ready to roll. I just want them to stay composed systematically in a tight game and play smart. I'm expecting a nail biter, they can't get frustrated and take a dumb penalty or 2.

NCAA Quarterfinal Preview video/news/notes

Game sold out in less than 24 hours which speaks to how the program has further garnered attention/interest from the general public. I'm also curious how many tickets they may have sold if playing at Kohl Center (which I think is empty this weekend). However, the program is pretty much all in with LaBahn at this point and 2,273 fans can make a lot of noise in that space.

I would worry more about a slow start if they were going into a hostile (or sterile) enviroment. I have to believe that they are going to draw a lot of energy from the home crowd.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

In all seriousness, the game was actually sold out in under 13 hours. Tickets went on sale at 8:30 am, and I looked online just out of curiosity at 9pm (I will be at Ridder Saturday), and as I posted, there was exactly 1 seat left at that time - which I'm sure was quickly taken.

It does seem a bit odd that they don't do any SRO, other than the drink rail spots, then again, the sellout number always seems to be the same 2273, no matter if the band is there or not - and that takes up several dozen seats. Speaking of which, has anyone heard if the visitors are bringing/buying a band?

The interest has certainly ticked back up this season, and I don't really have any doubts that this year they would have easily filled the lower bowl in the Kohl Center. That doesn't make sense for a variety of reasons, but it's just another reminder of how painfully cheap they went with LaBahn and really have stunted the opportunity to grow the fanbase. A 2200 person sellout makes for a good atmosphere - but a 4000+ sellout would be amazing.
