Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Sort of bittersweet though since, with one recent exception when they didn't have the choice, the Kas has ended up going to a player not on the National Championship team, I already have them penciled in for that so their odds are not as good as they should be.

Hmmm...

2011 - Meaghan Duggan - National Title
2009 - Jessie Vetter - National Title
2006 - Sara Bauer - National Title

Even 2012 - Brianna Decker - National Title Game

We'll take our chances..

Unless you were joking, then never mind.

It was a joke, I should have added the smiley.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Last night had to be one of the best attended first round WCHA playoff game here in Madison ever. The most students I've seen there besides a designated Student Day where they are getting bribed by free t-shirts and pizza. Overall, it was a loud and rowdy crowd (relatively speaking).

Once again, Mankato hung tough in the first period and lone Badger goal was Clark cleaning up a scrum in front of the net. Ice was completely titled in the second period and Quade's play and improbably bounces kept it scoreless, which seemed impossible. As with two weeks ago, Badgers went throttle down in the third. Quade gave up a soft goal to Channel, but she couldn't do much with Nurse's and Cogan's goal. It was interesting that the 4th was played sparingly until deep into the 3rd.

As mentioned earlier, the officiating was not good. Cogan took an elbow to the head in open ice within both refs view and nothing. Place went crazy. I can somewhat deal with missed interference or hooking, but a shot up at the head is hard to miss and (should be) impossible not to call.

I looked at the line charts prior to the game and it looks like the Badgers picked up a goalie from the club team on campus. Not that she'll play, but was interesting. Men's team put out an open call for goalies a month ago for a third stringer.

Found free parking fairly easy. Couple of lots (shown on the map) west of the LaBahn that were basically connected to the walking path that goes right by the arena. Plenty of spots available 20 minutes prior to face-off and only about a 5 minute walk. Getting stingy with parking costs as I get older.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Just announced that today's game has already sold out. Prior 3 years at Bahn they never really came that close to selling out first round playoff games. More impressive considering those tickets are not part of the season ticket package.

I've also starting coming around on Saturday afternoon games (even if men aren't playing at Kohl). I used to be a stauch believer in Friday night/Saturday night whenever possible. However, later Saturday afternoon is more family-friendly, the natural light in LaBahn is cool and it still frees up the night for whatever else you want to do.

I don't like the afternoon games, they chew up the whole afternoon when you consider I drive 1 hr 1 way, and I get there 45 minutes early to get the seats I want. If I lived in Madison and was not partial to where I sit, I probably would not mind as much.

Let's go RED!

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

1900, then sellout for the first round WCHA playoff games.
After the first UMD game on January 8, Wisconsin had virtual sellouts the whole second half of the season, including SCSU and MSU games. Pretty impressive. I would say a new threshold of interest has been reached.

I would also interpret this as the fan base has some pretty high hopes and expectations for this team. As in, they are thinking National Championship this year!!

BTW-Sellout at LaBahn is 2273.

Time to break down a wall and add some seats! (I have no idea how feasible that would be, even ignoring money.)

Complete the upper rim where the broadcasters are all the way around the building and rows of seating up there. Otherwise push the north concourse out and have the lower bowl go all the way around. There's just a street there. It's all moot, BA will never fund an increase in the size. They'd be better off back to playing in the KC.

UW played a lot looser D yesterday, Mankato had several grade A chances, they had none the day before. Mankato also had a few short periods of good forechecking. Reffing was marginally better, I think Mankato's 5 on 3 PP was bogus.

A bit shocked to be playing the dawgs in the semi. Should be an interesting game. The dawgs have won 3 in a row and are 6-3 in their last 9. Prior to that they had lost 7 in a row. Keep the pedal down, gals. Don't let off the gas.

Naturally I am ecstatic that ARD beat the rat's record. :) Super pumped about it.

Looked like there was a couple potential recruits on the bench during warm ups, maybe someone for that open F spot next year?

I just can't imagine the athletic department spending the kind of money it would take to expand at this point. Just bothers me that they knew it was smaller than it should have been and not able to host WCHA or NCAA Frozen Fours. But it seemed the men's program really wanted it built ASAP. Things like seating capacity, video board size, concessions, etc. didn't matter for them for their purposes.

3rd period was cruel to the Mavericks this season against the Badgers. By my count, Wisconsin outscored them 18-0 in 6 games in the 3rd period alone. Part of me felt a little bad (though not too much) as the Mankato goalies took about as much heckling as I've seen, especially since they were 0-for-WCHA play this year.

I again thought the refs sucked. Tripping and interference penalties were randomly called (both teams got hosed by non-calls) and Nurse took a shot to the head from behind that I just can't comprehend not being called.

I'm also surprised that Bemidji got swept by Duluth. Even though they were winless against Wisconsin/Minnesota, they were beating all the teams they were supposed to beat. Plus I thought I saw they were hosting playoff games for the first time ever. I assume there is no way they can still get a NCAA berth.

Even though it would have been better for the conference to get Bemidji through, the WCHA has to be happy with the old-school match-ups in the Final Face-off.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

BA at least needs to splurge and get an HD video board for Labahn, and stick one on the south end too.

Volleyball is currently in the middle of raising money for a locker room renovation and general facility upgrade to the Field House (including maybe re-opening the upper level for fan seating, due of sellouts, etc). There is currently no video screen in there at all. Count your blessings, and wait your turn.

Hockey > Volleyball. :)

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Not exactly sure what we are debating here. Fieldhouse is way overdue for renovation. It had charm back when I went to basketball games there in the late 80's, but it is outdated like hell. Scoreboard is over 15 years old and I'm really surprised that they haven't gone with a video screen(s) yet. I only learned about the closed 2nd deck last year. A little disturbing since I had student seasons up there for a couple of years. Guess I'm glad I didn't fall over any rails.

Both volleyball and women's hockey have proven that consistent winning will put butts in the seats. If/when women's basketball get to their level, they will probably outdraw them all.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Check this past season's attendance numbers.

The > is strictly personal taste, I don't mean to or want to start a civil war between VB and WH. It just jumped out at me Saturday how bad the graphics are on the video screen. In the end I want all UW sports to dominate the landscape of college athletics and for WI to rule the world! Hahahahahahaahaha!

No mention of ARD's new record on the main page, do I smell conspiracy?

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Nice 2 wins this past weekend for the Badgers. Took care of business as expected and all 3 lines contributed to the wins. Six different goal scorers in Saturdays game. (Wellhausen, McKibbon, Clark, Pankowski, Ryan, Channell). The depth this team has will certainly help this upcoming weekend and for the quarter finals in 2 weeks! Though she wasn't tested often, Desbien came up big when she needed too and seems to be locked in after a rough Friday game in Minnesota!

One of the questions asked during Friday's between-periods 'Badger Trivia' was 'How many different Badgers have scored goals this season?'. The answer was/is 18. That is to say - other than goalies and D-Maddie Rolfes (injured after ten games) - everyone. I don't know if that is a record of some kind, but I thought it was pretty impressive.

Last year BC had 19 different goal scorers. They had one player who played in two games w/o a goal, but everyone else scored.

There was definitely a conspiracy on Saturday...a conspiracy to lower her save percentage! :) But really, the Mavericks had six or seven shots on goal (I didn't see exactly what stick hit the puck where in that big flurry) in the first period. Not three. At the very least, ARD made a glove save that didn't count.
