Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016
Loved how the Badgers battled back after another baffling/disappointing bad start to the game. They had the Gophers on their heels in the third and rang a couple off the pipe. Shaver was robbed on a point blank shot with a nice sprawling save. Even early in OT they had some good looks. Definitely a game they could have won and probably should have got that tie which would have given them the season series over Minnesota. I'll give the Badgers credit going hard for the win, but their aggressive play ultimately cost them the game on the late game-winning 2-on-0 breakaway.
I was really impressed by the play of the 3rd line. Sowchuk had a goal and Welhaussen and Shaver brought a lot of energy and hustle. Didn't see Jones later on in the game and Harding got bumped up to the 2nd line.
Getting Kessel back is clearly a wild card for Minnesota. Seems back to at least 80-90% which still makes her dangerous as hell. It's like a professional team acquiring a player at the trade deadline late in the season. With all the firepower Minnesota has up front, it reminds me how much it sucks that Cianfarano ended up somewhere else. Defense could also use the return of Rolfes, but nobody wants to ask Coach Johnson about her potential availability. Thought with her dressing last Saturday, maybe that was a sign of a future return. If she can't make it back, hopefully she is eligible for a medical redshirt.
Will be nice to get back to the friendly confines of LaBahn this weekend. I think logging a couple more games with the new line combinations will help as things go forward in the playoffs.
Oh, Dan Kelly from BTN is a bit of clown show. After getting down 2, he seriously suggested that Wisconsin might just start looking forward towards next weekend. Was nice to hear Halldorson correct him fairly quickly. Sowchuk scored soon after to put that concept to bed once and for all.
It was really frustrating to see the Badgers lose on that kind of clean break after the defense played so well in the whole third (landing every poke check, separating players from the puck, never allowing that kind of play to happen).
