Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

I read Arlan's preview of the ncaa field (well done I must say!) and he mentioned that UW has a bad habit of coming out flat the week after a big series win, a thought that I had previously subscribed to. UW better come out guns a glazing and not allow that to happen this week. I think they have learned from that and will be ready to roll. I just want them to stay composed systematically in a tight game and play smart. I'm expecting a nail biter, they can't get frustrated and take a dumb penalty or 2.

You want them to make windows out of their guns? :)

That's funny. I work for a commercial glass company and I type "glazing" all the time in proposals. The old finger just could not resist the the G.

I got the sellout of 26 hrs off of Twitter via 2 Badger players, so obviously that IS the correct number. ;) It's not like Twitter is Wikipedia or something.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

It does seem a bit odd that they don't do any SRO, other than the drink rail spots, then again, the sellout number always seems to be the same 2273, no matter if the band is there or not - and that takes up several dozen seats. Speaking of which, has anyone heard if the visitors are bringing/buying a band?

The interest has certainly ticked back up this season, and I don't really have any doubts that this year they would have easily filled the lower bowl in the Kohl Center. That doesn't make sense for a variety of reasons, but it's just another reminder of how painfully cheap they went with LaBahn and really have stunted the opportunity to grow the fanbase. A 2200 person sellout makes for a good atmosphere - but a 4000+ sellout would be amazing.

I'm curious if they account for the SRO area for a reserved seating event like Saturday. If not, there will be empty seats as many people prefer to watch games up on the SRO rails.

Yeah, it's a discussion gone over more than a few times. LaBahn got built with very little ability to grow the fan base. Women's basketball has all of Kohl to work with and volleyball has 6,000 lower deck seats currently available and roughly 5,000 more if/when the UW gets the upper deck up to code. I would understand more if women's hockey was drawing a couple hundred when it was built. That wasn't the case.

Very good question. One would think in a reserved seating event, they could sell a couple hundred more ticketS. I wonder if the ushers will prod folks into their seats tonight.

It's a sad day for me, I don't look forward to being away from Labahn for 7 months, and the last game to see the Sr's in person. Once the ice melts and I can get the boat on the local lakes, I won't feel quite so empty.

And oh yeah................................IT'S A GREAT DAY FOR HOCKEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would think that if you go ahead with the bother of reserved seating, the event staff will make sure that seat locations will be honored. I have pretty good seats and won't hesitate calling someone out if they are trying to snake my seats.

Maybe it would have been logistically too difficult, but wondering if they couldn't have sold SRO specific tickets after regular seats were sold out.

Whatever the case, tonight should be a blast. Over the years following Wisconsin women's hockey, the NCAA quarterfinal games have been some of the most entertaining games I've seen.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

I'll be there.

So it's a sellout?

Good. I have one extra to dump, not that the 10 bucks will break me.

If nothing else, we'll just have more room to spread out.

A Great Day For Hockey indeed...

Oh yeah and pizza. We leave in 30 minutes. :)

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Man the crowd was awesome, I have never heard the Sieve chant echo like it did yesterday. There were a lot of funny people sitting behind us, that was neat, some old crease creatures. There were times where the crowd lost a little pop, but the game was clearly over after the 3rd goal, so it's hard to maintain that intensity.

Clark is just a sick sick player. She's going to be an all time great by the time her career is done.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

I was glad to see Wisconsin not fall into the trap of playing cheap and chippy like Mercyhurst does. I could see a team getting frustrated/chippy towards the end of a game they can't win, but Mercyhurst was taking cheap shots right from the start (as they always seem to do). Wisconsin just played their game without getting distracted by wanting payback. I guess if the refs were going to call everything that they should have, Wisconsin would have been on the power play for 60 minutes.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

You obviously weren't at the men's game at Mariucci last night! :p

Um no. You could have gave me 4 free tickets to the UW/UM games last night, put my entourage up in a 5 star hotel, chauffeured us to and from rodentapolis and I would have turned you down for going to the women's game last night. Usually at Labahn the majority of the fans don't do the sieve chant. Lat night the majority did.

It feels a little off to me to sieve at a women's game. To each their own though.

The crowd was great. Super loud and a lot of energy in the building.

I perceive the fans at the women's game seem to be more "civilized". Some people actually politely applaud the opposing team when they are introduced, I can't imagine doing that (maybe it happens at the men's games too, I do not know). I wonder what percentage of the women's fans cross over to the men's team, vice versa and how may don't cross over at all? Obviously I'm a men's crossover so I bring the mentality of a men's fan over with me. On the sieve thing, sometimes the players kinda smile when they get sieved during intros. I remember last year Sauve, a fr goalie for OSU, got intro'ed and just started to skate to the blue line with a stern face, then when the sieve thing started she cracked a big smile.

Awesome atmosphere at LaBahn. Definitely a place where home ice can make a difference with such a great supporting crowd. Wisconsin looked great, the winner of MN/WI is going to be more than a handful for the other semi winner! On Desbiens: I went into the game thinking she was probably a good goalie with a great team in front. She and her team define synergy-they feed off her calm cool deliberate play, and she can play that way with confidence knowing her team is that good. Her puck movement, patience, and decision making was impressive. She would be my choice for PK after seeing her play.

I do. At women's games, and at the four or five men's games I get to.

I go back to my experience as a hockey dad. My delicate little flower never described herself as a 'girl hockey player' only as a hockey player. I feel they work hard and deserve to be treated as equal to the guys. I have never been a fan of the obscene cheers & never do that at the mens game, I hope that never bleeds into the womens side. But good natured heckling? Heck, if I were out there I would be disappointed not to get the raspberries, to me it means you don't care enough. That is my feeling as a kid & then with a son & a daughter who both played.

Glad to see you made it back home safely (unless you are posting from a hospital bed), and it was nice meeting you. I did feel a little bad for you when the 2nd goal went in off a Mercyhurst skate, but I also felt like that 1 goal wasn't going to be the game winner. Hopefully you will be rooting for UW against the rodents this weekend.

I would make the argument that it was louder & a little crazier last year in the quarterfinal game against BU. Even though it wasn't sold out, BU brought their actual band and the two teams seemed relatively evenly matched going into the game. So when Pankowski scored early on a breakaway, the crowd went off and the tone was set.

Against Mercyhurst, once the Badgers scored twice, it was pretty clear that they were going to win. A fun game to watch (as a Wisconsin fan), but not a lot of drama.

Speaking of environment, I don't understand why the NCAA doesn't allow the host school to treat the game as a home game. I understand it for the Frozen Four as a neutral site, but the quarterfinal sites are earned on merit. Just make it a home game and incorporate all the normal pre- and in-game entertainment.

I agree 100%.

I've always hated it for the reasons you said, but the neutral script that the PA guy had to follow seemed especially noticeable this year (whether it was actually different, I'm not sure). At least the road team's goals getting a horn and fight song wasn't an issue that came up!
