Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

I go back to my experience as a hockey dad. My delicate little flower never described herself as a 'girl hockey player' only as a hockey player. I feel they work hard and deserve to be treated as equal to the guys. I have never been a fan of the obscene cheers & never do that at the mens game, I hope that never bleeds into the womens side. But good natured heckling? Heck, if I were out there I would be disappointed not to get the raspberries, to me it means you don't care enough. That is my feeling as a kid & then with a son & a daughter who both played.

I was just about to make the point you made about not treating them like "delicate little flowers" - they're elite athletes! One of the many reasons players want to play here is the fans, and I'd be willing to bet a very large amount of money that most of them would prefer a more raucous crowd to a more passive one.

Since LaBahn Arena opened, I've always wanted something resembling Ritter Arena when RIT played there (in the sense that you're getting the most energy possible in an arena that seats a little over 2K...and the band every game).

It's go time. NCAA Frozen Four Semi-Final video/news/notes. Two teams that are probably tired of playing each other, but needs to be settled once and for all this year.

Envious of those that are able to make the trip out. Looks like the UW has planned some official get-together locations out in Durham as they've done in the past.

Still trying to wrap my head around the logistics of tomorrow evening with women's hockey and men's basketall right on top of each other. I did hear that Union South is showing the hockey game in the lower level. Not sure where else in town is going to bother showing an internet stream going up against NCAA men's basketball and boy's state basketball. Staying at home seems like a very boring option. Guess I'll figure out the details as the game grows closer.

Add in the fact the UW lads will be playing a game too tomorrow. :)

It might be a lot of fun going to Union South to watch the game with a crowd, but it's not going to work logistically for me.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Looks like I'll be going with the dualing TV & laptop option for the games tonight.

Just for kicks, I checked what was on ESPNU to see what they are showing today/tonight. "SportsCenterU" until 7 and then a regular season SEC softball game. That's a joke.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

It's rough when you have to beat said rival for a 4th time to get to a National Title game. It was a bittersweet end to a very successful season. BC, Minnesota and Wisconsin went into the Frozen Four thinking they could win the whole thing and were on a mission. It was a title or bust for those teams.

Had a great feeling after Clark scored the late 2nd period goal. Wisconsin is usually a monster when taking a lead into the 3rd. However, Kessel turned the monentum very early in the 3rd to tie it up. Didn't think the Badgers could hold off the Gophers on the PP to start OT. Gophers seemed to have more energy in OT and had more quality scoring chances. When the Badgers went on their 2nd OT PP, I thought that they were going to cash it in. However, once Leveille stoned Clark point-blank, I had a bad feeling. I feel really bad for Channel at the end. She was either fatigued or lost track of where Potomak was. One turnover later and it's lights out. All I could do was stare at my laptop for 5 minutes not saying a word.

On the bright said, Wisconisn returns over 80% of goals scored, 5 out of 6 defensemen and of course ARD. Seems like their incoming class is pretty good. They should be rated highly right out the gate. Regardless, this loss was a punch to the gut.

I have several issues with the quality of the broadcast production, but it's too late and I don't have the energy.

After taking a few hours to regain my composure.....that sucked. UW's breakout/neutral zone passing just was not sharp last night, therefore UM had an advantage in puck possession. 2 UW men-like boneheaded D zone lapses cost them the first 2 goals. ARD's play kept them in the game. UW never put that much pressure on UM period. Nurse and Clark were rather invisible. I don't know what the forecheck plan was, but there never seemed to be anyone in front of the net to coral a rebound, most shots were one and done. If you get 2 OT pps, which is unheard of, and you don't cash in, well then you can't cry about losing. It just sucks being 1 play away.

Norby alone is going to be worth the price of admission...

As both Minnesota and BC has proven, you can never have too much firepower up front. Along with the freshman coming in, they should (hopefully) get Rolfes back to bolster the defense. She provides some size, and had 10 assists in 10 games before being shut down for the year. Not sure if she is eligible for a medical redshirt having played 10 games.

Still shaken a bit after that game last night. While playoff sudden-death OT hockey may be the best thing ever, it's a b-tch when you are the wrong end of the result.

So now that Mike Eaves has been fired, the big question is whether or not Coach Johnson wants to take over the men's team. I have to think that is a very enticing opportunity for him to consider. My guess is that he will take the job.

Yeah, that's the next big issue within the Badger hockey community. Application deadline for the job is March 25, so Coach Johnson has some big decisions to make fairly quickly. The other thing is that even if he applies, he'll be only one of several quality candidates. It's hardly a given he gets the job even if he wants it.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2015-2016

Coyne wins Patty Kaz and have no issue with it considering the numbers she put up. With that said, Desbiens is the main reason the Badgers won the WCHA titles and were in a legitimate position to win a national title. She wasn't done any favors by her defense in the goals given up last night.

I can't imagine anyone else being the top candidate. Who do you think is better? I think the job is his if he wants it. He has nothing more to gain by remaining as the women's coach. Becoming the men's coach and turning that program around is a great challenge and one that I don't think he'll be able to resist. His reputation alone will bring in a whole different level of recruits for the men's team. It's a chance to follow in his father's footsteps so probably his dream job if he's being honest with himself. Done deal as far as I can tell.

Funny you say that, to these eyes Nurse, Clark and Pankowski were clearly the three best skaters on the team (and Pankowski was the best skater on the ice). Great fun to watch them play.

Compared to the amount of snipes they normally get, Nurse and Clark weren't big factors.

MJ needs to stay as the women's coach. He'd have to work way harder in recruiting than he does now. Osiecki, Don or Tony Granato, Gwozdecky, Hastings, and the coach from St. Norberts are all very suitable candidates

I have an issue with it. There's always going to be big scorers. ARD's numbers are the best evah.

I could see them turning to George Gwozdecky. A proven record at DU with multiple 20-game win seasons and two national championships, and a Badger alum. I think it comes down to him and Johnson.

I'll amend my statement a bit. I think that ARD absolutely had the numbers to win it and I'm disappointed it didn't happen. Kendall Coyne concluded a great career with a great senior season. Sometimes that's what it takes to win the award. If ARD puts up similar numbers next year, it would be almost impossible to deny her the award.
