Re: What team ends the Minnesota winning streak?

having gone through the ending of a much discussed streak, I had the good fortune during the Frozen Four last year, to talk to some of the Gophers who would be returning this year with the monkey on the back.

I described being on the bench in the waning seconds of the Providence game, standing next to what would have most certainly been First Team All American and Patty Kazmaier finalist, defenseman Cindy McKay, if we had such recognition back then, and since Patty was still playing....

As the clock ran down to buzzer time, we looked at each other. The world didn't implode, the roof didn't collapse, our parents still loved us, and we still had homework for the next day. We actually laughed. It was such a relief. It really was. The loss only strengthened our determination to improve, to try to keep a gap between us and our pursuers, and to dig even deeper, and work harder together to start again. And we did.

I know it's human nature to quantify and qualify events and results, but at the end of the day, the most important "measurable" that we took away from that game in December of 1981 was determination and resilience. If you look further on in the record books, you'll see that it was December of 1983 before Providence beat us again, and we only lost one game total in between.

Perfection is a scary thing to get hung up on when there is so much more to learn from imperfection.

I might consider returning to the forum if more brilliance like this keeps showing up.

Re: What team ends the Minnesota winning streak?

before anyone beats MN, the first thing they are going to have to do is score
nobody has ever scored on the current goaltenders ... in the last 3 years!

You sure about that.

The 2011/2012 record of one of those tenders is 34 games played, 14 wins, 17 losses, 8 Shutouts, 59 GA, GAA 1.72 and SV % of 0.939.

Great numbers other than the W-L record, which was more a function of the team in front of her, but "never scored on in the last three years" is misleading to say the least.

Below are the official PW stats:

YEAR TEAM Lge. GP GS MIN W L - SO GA GAA SV SV%
2011/2012 PWHL 24 24 1208:28 9 12 3 6 43 1.78 638 0.937
2012 Playoff PWHL 10 10 495:47 5 5 - 2 16 1.61 259 0.942
The correct statement is: no one has scored on a Gopher goaltender other than Räty in the past three years.

Re: What team ends the Minnesota winning streak?

So they're primed to end the streak in Duluth and ready to celebrate eh? Oh to dream.

Poster poll from gds:

1) Wisonsin
2) Minnesota
3) North Dakota
4) Ohio State
5) Minnesota Duluth
6) Minnesota State
7) Bemidji State
8) St. Cloud State
9) Gustavus Adolphus
10) St. Thomas

Nothing like a little geographical bias. :D

Re: What team ends the Minnesota winning streak?

Based on polling results, 50% of the voters think the streak will be halted in the next two weeks. We can then finally re-instate the "Track Who has the Belt" thread. :D

Re: What team ends the Minnesota winning streak?

Well, even I had predicted that it would be 'Sconnie. I can say that I'm very glad I was incorrect. UMD gets the next crack at it, but they still have another game against North Dakota to deal with first (after blowing a 3-1 lead and losing 4-3 in Grand Forks today).

Re: What team ends the Minnesota winning streak?

21 pollsters eliminated, including myself. :) Darn!

A lone pollster with the opportunity for winning the marbles next weekend.

Re: What team ends the Minnesota winning streak?

They still play conference teams a second series, so......

you'll never get the chance if the lone Bemidji picker is correct next weekend ....

those that picked bacon have a long wait, although after the last two weekends it is looking more possible

Re: What team ends the Minnesota winning streak?

OK, I'm game.

November 9, 2013.

St. Cloud State Huskies (HEY, no laughing until the end!!)

Margin of win--1

Final Score: SCSU 3 tGopher 2

ARM, you will be impressed with the face lift of the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center (us rebel fans will still affectionately call it "The Concrete Center").

I am still trying to find the new mural of Top Row, Skeeterman and myself.
Well...you're up. Up for a crash and burn prognostication I'm hoping. Planning on making the Friday game and check the remodeled digs.

Re: What team ends the Minnesota winning streak?

Should we re-do this poll:

The way this is going, this streak could still be alive late into January.

The visits to NoDak and Wisco late in the year appear to be the biggest threats to the streak. Right now I just can't see the Gophers lose on home ice unless they run into injury problems.

I don't know how much home ice matters. The Gophers last lost on the road in Duluth, Friday the 13th of January, 2012. No wonder people are superstitious. Since that game, they've only had one road opponent come within two goals, Bemidji State just over a week ago. In that time, Minnesota has been taken to OT at home five times, losing one of them, and had another one-goal win over Wisconsin. Losing can happen anywhere.

I think there are some considerable threats much sooner than those two road series. Husky goaltending seems up to the mark...even though I think the large ice surface is favorable to Minnesota. North Dakota at Ridder will be a very real threat and large challenge. The Whioux will present the most potent offense yet encountered by Minnesota, and the young D IMO. Same with the North Dakota PP. Going to the box vs. No Dak can be costly.
