Listening to some Bruno Mars this morning, and he's someone I wish would make a repeat Super Bowl halftime performance.

I saw my local library had The Decemberists albums for checking out, and I wasn't sure which one to grab first.

My Favorite is The Hazards of Love and if you can listen to it the whole way through the first time with headphones.

The Corrs- In Blue
Billie Joe Armstrong and Norah Jones- Foreverly
Arcade Fire- Everything Now
The Cranberries- No Need to Argue

Jade Bird is really really good. youtube has a concert of hers from the Armory I believe. Check it out, I loved it.

For some stupid fcking reason, I have had that Deana Carter country waltz from the 90s "Strawberry Wine" stuck in my head for 3+ weeks. ARRRGH!

Re: USCHO Music Thread: We All Have A Crush On Shirley Manson

I would sooner slit my wrists than listen to Steely Dan, but thanks. :p

I felt like that for 30 years, then I watched a video about how they put their music together, and I said, "oh FFS" and started hated watching it, and suddenly they were a completely different band.

I'll compare it to Popeye. I remembered Popeye as a silly cartoon for thirty years and then TCM started playing them and I swear it's the most profoundly seditious and brilliant social satire in American history including Bullwinkle.

So, yes, on the surface Steely Dan absolutely sounds like Kenny G elevator music. But underneath it's more complicated than Mozart. And if nothing else it got forty years of suburban brood sows to happily whistle along to something called "Steely Dan" without once thinking to look up what that meant. :)

The only appropriate response.

I like Steely Dan, too. Not all of it, no way. But enough.

I played a show with Peter Erskine back in college. He had some fun Steely Dan anecdotes. He has never been an official member, but he's played with them quite a bit.

Fun tidbit: His daughter, Maya Erskine, is one of the creators and stars of Pen15. Her character's dad is the drummer for a Steely Dan tribute band.
