The Golden Nugget had ads for the following acts, Coming Soon:
  • Grand Funk Railroad (first recording 1968)
  • Three Dog Night (1967)
  • The Guess Who (1965)
  • The Shondelles (1964)
  • Frankie Avalon (1958)

I've officially hit the age where I buy overpriced tickets to see over the hill bands from my youth. Saw Goo Goo Dolls this past fall in Ames. Am highly considering getting tickets to see Yellowcard in the Twin Cities this summer.

Yellowcard always had my respect for having Punk Violin Dude Sean Mackin.

I saw Guess Who in their prime, I think anyway : )

I still kick myself for not seeing Ray Charles when I was 17 and had the chance at We Fest. He was the Sunday closer, and my buddy and I just wanted to get on the road early Sunday for the (usually) four-hour drive home. We Fest traffic made it more like 6.5 hours.

My woulda coulda shouldas include BB King, Chuck Berry, Roy Orbison, Gentle Giant, Pink Floyd; Pat Metheny, Rush, Talking Heads, The Fall, Siouxie, Bauhaus, Nick Cave, Buzzcocks, Ramones -- the last 9 all in their young prime. Invited to go see all of them, in the same place I was at; turned them all down. Never saw them.

Younger Me, I am disappoint.

Advice: being a tool and getting straight A pluses is gold, but it isn't everything.

Hmm.

Never got to see Queen, McCartney, The Who, Bowie, the original Van Halen, Allman Brothers, Alice in Chains, Beastie Boys, The Clash, Pixies and I'm sure a few others.

Luckily I've seen most of my faves at least those that were attainable to me by age. When I saw the Stones they were all in their 60's by then - I had a chance to see them for the Tattoo You tour and couldn't go. And I saw Page/Plant but to have seen Zeppelin in the 70's would have been unreal.

That's kind of funny. I'll be in Las Vegas for 11 days in March, and for a few of those days we're staying downtown (but not at the Nugget). I don't think I'll be able to get the group to go see The Guess Who, though.

Where are you? GN is the only Fremont hotel I have stayed at. I gotta say, as scruffy and gross as the casino floor is, the Rush Tower room was GREAT! It was completely modern and gorgeous. Our friends treated themselves to a corner suite and that was superb. They also have 2-floor ones for a price. One thing, though, bring your own lighting. Those rooms have a few wall lights and some lamps and that is it. You literally get more light by pulling the blinds and letting the neon shine in. From what I saw of the girls in the circles on Fremont, they are doing everyone a favor.

For the first seven days we're on the Strip, at the rebranded Bally's Casino, now called The Horseshoe. However, on Wednesday the 15th we're moving to Fremont Street and staying at The Plaza, primarily because we want to be at Circa for the basketball that weekend.

I was across from the Plaza. Seedy AF. That is truly the Fremont Experience.

Ever stay at the Trop? I've only heard that it's like the Chelsea in 1967. Sweep up the eyeballs at the end of the night.

Never stayed at the Trop, although we've occasionally gambled there. During one of our March "mega-Vegas" trips about ten years ago we actually stayed at Hooter's Casino (now the OYO, formerly the San Remo) right next door to the Trop, and did a fair amount of gambling there, but otherwise we haven't spent much time in that casino. Hooters was only about $29/night, and the PAC 12 was still playing at the MGM at that time.

By that time they had already slapped a new coat of paint on the Trop, so a lot of the flavor of the old Trop had been removed.

I have been on a steady diet of Rush on Pandora, with the setting on the deep catalog. My observation is Peart wrote a lot of forgettable songs with lame lyrics. But, he's an incredible performer on all of them.

Went to a Goth Prom last night. The music was fantastic, including Depeche Mode, Joy Division, NIN, Bauhaus, She Wants Revenge, Evanescence, and more.

I saw yellow card at a small venue with I think motion city and one other band way back when. One of the best concerts I have ever been to. That said, I'm not entirely sure old me has the energy to attend a concert like young me did.

My old-ass self saw a few shows last time I was home in the fall. Saw Echo & The Bunnymen, Bahuaus, the Gear Daddies and would have seen Duran Duran but they cancelled. I imagine eventually those days will be over but I hope not anytime soon.

Bought tickets after sitting on it for 2 days, so going to see them at the Armory in July. Since wife and I are both old and she's 5'3", splurged and got seats in one of the balconies rather than general admission on the floor so she has a shot of actually being able to see the stage.
