oh pulllease.... Whisssssle....whisssssle!

If a team can pull kids from all over the country...whoops, lets not forget those Europeans the Old Man happened to find last year....Well, congrats....it simply MUST be the coaching....had nothing to do with cherry-picking girls from all over...all developed from the grassroots, man, with one practice a week...mmm sure thing. tweeeeet. LOL Pass the koolaide.

No pulling they chose to come. The European was not at Nationals as well as having 4 of their top 5 players hurt and they still won. It's OK there is always next year. You just don't get it but that's ok......the world needs ditch diggers too......maybe you should take a double shot of koolaid.......cheers. The coaching is the best around along with some solid talent as well that's why the girls drove 4 hours round trip each Sunday. There isn't a better coach around or student of the game.

No...I bet if he didn't whistle so much, his team would have won by more! Anyway, back to the topic. I thought Samoskovich (sp?) was a great little play-maker and Keller just makes the game look easy. I'd pencil those two in.

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

Clearly whistleboy has won national championships in quantity and groomed many D1/D3 players, so he has been successful by those measures. But if you look at the Assabet program over the years VERY few of the players that start with the program when they are younger develop well and they are usually displaced by players that were developed elsewhere when they are older. This would suggest that he doesn't develop players well and that his success has come through recruiting (which has largely been done by CG) and/or overwhelming talent rather than through good coaching. Backing this up is the bigger question - if he is such a great coach, why is he not coaching a prep school or college team (which has been pursued)? Would have to be due to questions about either his ability or his character....you'd have to ask the schools which. I'm sure that the fact that he touts his experience as a D1 men's player when he never played a D1 game doesn't help.

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

Per USA hockey twitter:

Game 1: Team Blue 2 (Cianfarano; Rodgers); Team White 1 (Laing)

Thank you! Not a lot of info posted or tweeted about the camp so far I appreciate your posting this info. Sorry for interrupting such interesting banter about whistling, carry on.

God Bless Minnesota Hockey!

The elite club model, so popular elsewhere, only serves to identify top talent, not develop it.

Why throw napalm on a grass fire? Especially on a U18 camp thread now we get 100 posts about Tier 1 vs High School. Look at the Mens coverage on this site and USA hockey, this little thread and the one or two relevant posts is really the only coverage of the U18 Womens Selection Camp. Would be nice if the people who are there would post some game stories or something and maybe bashing a coach, program, region of the country, or development model could be on a different thread.

Not true but good thought. I was referring to the fact that the 4 players from CT that chose to drive 4 hours round trip when they could have stayed local but chose to make the drive for the coaching and the programs commitment.

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

It's called testing the waters......you don't know if he declined opportunities or not. He will coach at a high level the timing isn't right.

We'll see, but I wouldn't bet the farm on this one..... reputation, likeability, and personality means a lot in these jobs (right or wrong). And I haven't seen him at any USA Hockey NDCs either when other less accomplished club coaches are getting the call for those slots fairly regularly. And don't tell us he wasn't interested.....

And what did all that driving, coaching and program commitment get them? Not a shot at the U18 Team. Team commitment didn't go that far.

The idea that concentrating talent on a few regional teams and having those coaches have undue influence with college coaches and USA Hockey selection process is not a sustainable method to ensure the best talent at the top. Good luck to all at the camp. They have worked hard to get there.

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

Girls had a nice game of volleyball last night as a team building exercise. (hmmm, seems like a good way to end up with a body part that doesn't work well)

Team commitment didn't go that far? Maybe you should do a little research but 1 of the girls did make the 18 team and another played for the Swiss National Team.....oh yes silly me and another National Championship...darn I forgot they all went Division 1 too....man I'm losing it they all went Ivy as well....ummmm...I think that's it

Tough call - you obviously don't want girls to get hurt, especially doing non-hockey activities. But there is a certain amount of off-ice physical activity that needs to occur and there will always be that risk of injury when you do that. Happens at NDC, team pre-season, etc.
