US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

Team commitment didn't go that far? Maybe you should do a little research but 1 of the girls did make the 18 team and another played for the Swiss National Team.....oh yes silly me and another National Championship...darn I forgot they all went Division 1 too....man I'm losing it they all went Ivy as well....ummmm...I think that's it

Not this year, 2013-2014. This year's road warriors did not fare so well.

Did I miss the memo? The 13-14 season has not started yet , I could be wrong but I don't think so. If you go back and look the reference is to last years 19 team that won Nationals @ Assabet. The road warriors fared quite well as described in my earlier post.

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

U18 Series team posted on USA Hockey website at

http://u18womensworlds.usahockey.com/page/show/893687-camp-roster

Things I noted:

- 2 98's - 1 forward, 1 defense
- 4 Assabet Valley, 4 Shattuck, 3 Hopkins High School, 2 each Honeybaked, Mission, NAHA
- 7 Minn, 4 Mass, 2 each Mich, NY, Illinois

Not really much here to suggest the demise of club hockey as some have predicted OR substantial expansion of girls hockey outside of the core states. Rather, seems more like the rich get richer. MN high schools only place 5 kids in total and JWHL only places 4 kids in total.

Edit - moving Maliya Rodgers to Hopkins per Hux.

Miss Nina Rodgers plays for Hopkins High School in the winter.

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

Hux - Legitimate question. Do you feel that the JWHL model is proving successful given their relative lack of representation on the U18 team? Given the total focus on hockey of the member programs and their players, it seems like there should be greater representation on this team (and yes, I know the politics are still against them in the selection process). NAHA was in existence well before JWHL, so you have to set them aside really - it appears that the rst of the league/model isn't attracting the top US girls in quantity. Seems like there has been enough time for JWHL to be better represented on the U18 team at least (not the women's team yet, though).

Looks like it may be doing better on the Canadian side, but I don't have enough insight to have an informed opinion on that....interested in your thoughts.

I don't think politics is against the league. There have been a bevy of players from the JW who have worn Red, White and Blue as a member of the U18 team. (Each team has had at least one, with NAHA having several most years). Remember, a lot of players in the JW are overage, playing for their senior year, or as PGs. Additionally, rather than being a league of All-Star teams, the success of the JW is in taking average players and making them better through professional coaching and a lot of ice time.

Interesting thoughts, especially the part about overage players - thanks! So you don't feel that USA Hockey is discouraging the JWHL model? Have heard differnetly from other JWHL folks...

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

I certainly hope that players didn't find out about their inclusion or lack thereof because I stumbled across the team list unintentionally on a mistaken open posting on the USA Hockey website. If so, then WOW - that is just embarassing and horrendous mismanagement by USA Hockey.

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

The players found out this morning around 7:15 eastern time. The players that made it already had a practice today and are scrimmaging a local boys high school team tonight. I certainly hope that future comments on this thread can be positive ones. USA Hockey is not perfect but I truly believe they are trying to do the best job they can. Also, who the **** cares if a coach whistles or not? Some of the comments posted over the last few days are just plain stupid!

I doubt USA Hockey really cares one way or the other. Their focus is on the ADM, and getting programs (or knotheads within programs) to buy into cross ice play for younger kids.

I Agree. They don't care one way or the other. Similar programs exist on the men's side.

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

No pulling they chose to come. The European was not at Nationals as well as having 4 of their top 5 players hurt and they still won. It's OK there is always next year. You just don't get it but that's ok......the world needs ditch diggers too......maybe you should take a double shot of koolaid.......cheers. The coaching is the best around along with some solid talent as well that's why the girls drove 4 hours round trip each Sunday. There isn't a better coach around or student of the game.

"ditchdiggers'? You sound like a total and complete tool. Typical of that bunch. tweet!!

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

clearly whistleboy has won national championships in quantity and groomed many d1/d3 players, so he has been successful by those measures. But if you look at the assabet program over the years very few of the players that start with the program when they are younger develop well and they are usually displaced by players that were developed elsewhere when they are older. This would suggest that he doesn't develop players well and that his success has come through recruiting (which has largely been done by cg) and/or overwhelming talent rather than through good coaching. Backing this up is the bigger question - if he is such a great coach, why is he not coaching a prep school or college team (which has been pursued)? Would have to be due to questions about either his ability or his character....you'd have to ask the schools which. I'm sure that the fact that he touts his experience as a d1 men's player when he never played a d1 game doesn't help.

bingo!!

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

Not true but good thought. I was referring to the fact that the 4 players from CT that chose to drive 4 hours round trip when they could have stayed local but chose to make the drive for the coaching and the programs commitment.

And for daddy-0 to get that trophy!
