US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

I notice that USA Hockey has Melissa Samoskevich listed as a forward. Have they moved her from defense to forward?

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

Samoskevich actually played forward most of the season last year at Shattuck St. Mary's as well!

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

I see that Brittany Bugalski is not listed on the roster for the game today. Is she injured?

Hey Hux any truth to the rumor that the Canadian coach was doing some whistling? Do you think thats the reason USA lost? OMG do not let Coss check know.

No, Coach Schuler was pretty mello...her troops played a sharp game and had the US on their heels for most of the 60 minutes.

Anyone in Lake Placid looking for a killer breakfast I highly recommend Chair 6. (thanks Dave)

For those of us who aren't in Lake Placid, comments on changes that might be seen for the upcoming game would be appreciated.

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

I don't think any real changes need to be made in terms of lines or defense pairings. Canada was the better team in transition yesterday. They had good speed through the neutral zone and created most of their chances off the rush. Once Team USA established possession in the offensive zone they were in pretty good shape - just need to get more pucks to the net and not try to make the perfect play all the time. The shots were 27 -20 in favor of the Americans, but as I said Canada was able to create a lot off USA's turnovers. If team USA cleans up their game in the neutral zone today they will be fine.

I guess you watched a different game than I.

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

Team USA played much better in game #2 and finally were able to win in game #3 by the score of 3-2. What people have to remember is that even though we would all like to win this series annually, it really is just a check and balance to see where the team stacks up against Canada before the World Tournament next spring. Team USA improved their play from game to game in this series and was the better team in game three. They scored 2 power play goals, and IMO were better 5 vs 5 also. Game #2 was a close game as well in a 2-3 loss. The coaching staff is evaluating the entire team and will make changes before Worlds if they feel they need to. In the third game they tried a few different combinations of players on lines that really seemed to work, and at times were dominating the Canadians. We will see what happens, but some of the players really played well together and I can see that happening next spring as well!

Looking at the U18 roster, I noticed that Grace Zarzecki was not listed. Did she get injured at camp? She was terrific at last year's world championships and would certainly have been a great addition to this team.

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

Who knows regarding u18 going forward.....as noted seems to be a lot of turnover some years. I know some folks in Chicago think a few of their girls got overlooked and hope they get a fair shot next year. Detroit teams usually seem to get a fair number of girls at national camp, they didn't put up big numbers there and as a result were not invited to try out. As always it seems like some are close calls but if you ask some Midwest folks (coaches) who watch a lot of games there are players not selected who are as good or better than those picked. As stated elsewhere in this post sometimes it appears to help to be from certain programs. Regardless - congrats and good luck to those who made it. No doubt all work hard and are fine players.
