US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

Sounds like all of the girls who flew out of Boston are stuck in Newark. Flight to Albany keeps getting pushed back...at present they would leave Newark at 11PM.

Flying through Newark made more sense than driving to Albany from Boston?? I've made that drive iin 2+ hours...

Had they rented a van and driven from Boston, they would have made LP in plenty of time for dinner. The girls who can bounce back from a long, arduous travel day to perform well in physical evaluations today will be a step ahead in the overcoming adversity column.

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

Couple from Minnesota and Mountain States were stuck in Newark as well, long day and night for the 8 or 9 of them. Think they made the best of it and were all in it together, a good hard day of training and night sleep and they will be right back in the thick of it.

Well, it does when you are an organization trying to get a number of individuals from one region to another. They should have called me and I could have used the Shamrocks' little bus and hauled them all up there in exchange for unfettered access to the dessert cabinet at the OTC! ;)

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

Really...and why is that? Wouldn't it be better if more rather than fewer programs were sending players? Maybe Coach Whistler can come too?

It's great because I coach some of these girls. I'm glad to see Massachusetts sending 7 just like the other poster who was glad to see 9 from Minny....I think coach Whistler would be a great addition to this team. Great Idea!

No. The program is immaterial. Send the best players regardless of which team/program they come from. If Assabet has 6 of the best, then they deserve to be there.

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

I agree. It is no coincidence that a majority of these players come from the strongest programs in the country. Assabet, Chicago Mission and Shattuck St. Marys all finished in the top 3 at the National Tournament back in April in both the U-19 and the U-16 divisions. NAHA won the JWHL and most of the Minnesota players all play in the Upper Midwest Elite League when they are not playing for their respective high school teams. The girls hockey world is a small one, and the coaches of Team USA know what players play well together during their regular season back with their teams. If the chemistry works between players at high level programs resulting in success at the highest level then that has a great chance to work for Team USA as well. Why not take advantage of that?

Only if the main objective is to win. At the U18 level the goal should be to identify those individuals who have the skill and ability to develop to the next level. Winning a u18 title is nice and all but hollow if you miss out on discovering players who can help achieve the ultimate challange of winning gold and world championships.

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

Let me be clear - the 30 girls that are at this years USA 18 selection camp ALL deserve to be there regardless of where they play during the season! It just so happens that a lot of the players come from only a few programs or districts. Remember, these players must first try-out within their state, then district, then get chosen to the ALL-Star game AFTER they make it to National Camp. THEN they get chosen from the All -Star game for this Festival/Selection Camp. It is a long, hard road and all of them have earned the right to be there! They are all being developed along the way. Every one of these girls will be playing at the next level (D-1) over the next couple of years, and some will represent our country in future tournaments internationally.

If anyone is contemplating taking in the U18 series in Lake Placid and looking for a good place to stay, I highly recommend Art Devlin's Olympic Motor Inn. They have rooms available for next week.

If you do go and are looking for something different to do during your down time, try the bobsled run. We only got to start half way up but still hit 60+ mph! What a rush to turn your head and look straight DOWN at the concrete bottom of the course while in one of the big turns.:D

WhistleBoy has to go. Beyond lame. I'm sure the NHL boys will be whistling line changes any day now.

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

LOL tell me why whistling bothers you so much? It doesn't sound like a hockey whistle. Call Dick Umile at UNH and tell him to stop whistling at his players..LOL:)

WhistleBoy! That's funny. I watched a game one time with him behind the bench and the other team's fans decided they'd whistle along too. The arena sounded like a cage of finches on steroids. To me, it doesn't say much about his confidence in his girls if he has to whistle all the time for line changes. Does he tie their skates too? His players were far too good for that nonsense.

LOL another unhappy dad who's team lost to Assabet. I bet if he didn't whistle you would have won.

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

Yes, all the best coaches whistle all game long for line changes...I think Scotty Bowman probably was the first, and of course now the entire NHL is one big WhistleFest.

Oye vey...totally and completely lame. As someone said above, if he can't trust his players to come off the ice [and these are U19's not U10's] then that's a pretty sad story.

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

What was the score of that game? Oh yeah Assabet won. It was the ever so brainiac Minnesota fans that were flapping their gums/lips. Its no different than screaming and yelling @ them to get off the ice. Its what they are used to and if I remember right pretty darn successful as well. You all know what we do and we still find a way to beat you....hmmmmm....what's that say about your non whistling coach......? As UCONN FAN put it so nicely , if there was no whistling I bet you would have won. Quite a few National titles for a group that practices once a week as compared to the other teams that play 60 plus games and 2-3 practices per week. I can only imagine if Assabet had that much time together. WB as you have deemed him forgot more about hockey before 9 o clock this morning than you my friend could ever hope to know.

Re: US U18 Women's National Team 2013-2014

Location Ireland that's cute. There is no trust issue and it's no different than yelling and screaming to change. It's great that it gets under your skin and bothers you , I love it. Why on this green earth are you comparing it to the NHL and Scotty Bowman , that right there should be a heads up as to your knowledge of the game. It's his style and many coaches/fans have whined about it for years and how's that working out for ya???? That's what I thought.....tweet tweeeeettttttttt
