UMaine Hockey 23 - 24: The Barr Crawl to Glory!!!

So after witnessing 3 on 3 OT....and the shootout......hated it. I say 5 on 5 OT and it ends in a tie....period. What is the point of the shootout? It did showcase the Nadeau Bros. stick handling and shooting skills.....I guess it is for the fans because I find it absolutely pointless....literally and figuratively.

And yeah....Breen and the Nadeaus need to be broken up. Breen in particular has been frustrated for numerous games now.....you can see it in his body language.

Pretty much same here, except 3x3..shootouts for Holiday Tourneys is ok...but in regular season play...10 minute o.t. with either 4x4 or basic 5x5...and ends in a tie then so be it....

I just don't think I've seen enough from that line to be worried yet.

Maybe if they were all mired in some deep scoring slump but Breen still has more multi-point games than games where he's been held off the scoresheet.

It was pretty clear from the jump on Friday that Colgate's plan was to neutralize them as much as possible and that trio still generated 16 SOG over the weekend.

Wonder how Breen's production as of right now compares to where he was a year ago. I cant find any fault in his play, he is a dynamic player but seems weird his point production playing on a line with the Nads might be below where he was last year.....if that is actually the case.

As of now he has scored 6 goals to go with 14 assist...last year he scored 21 goals...but his line as is has two goal scorers in Josh & Bradley....he's a valuable playmaker for the Nadeau's...plus he will add goal scoring too...he's not looked upon this season to net 20 plus goals...he'll score a few more during this season...and you can bet they will be important at times.

The 21 is a total for the 2022-2023 season. How many goals and assists did have as of Jan 8, 2023 ?

The games are in Hartford CC..? Schedule has it @ Storrs....(?).

If you go to UConn's hockey schedule you will see that they are in Hartford. Much to my disappointment, I was very excited to see their new rink in Storrs and now I wont be able to see Maine play there for two more years, in all likelihood.

Through roughly the same timeframe last year Breen had 7G/6A/13PTS in 19 games. I believe he was mostly with Poisson/Trudeau for that first half of last season, so not a shock that the brothers have him pacing well ahead through this point.

Breen's scoring took off pretty much immediately after that with 14G/9A/23PTS in 17 games the rest of the way last season (think he had moved onto a line with Houle/Freel by that point).

Breen is expected to do the work for the brothers that Houle and Freel did for him last year. It tells you how good he is that he can play both roles. Still Maine's best player.

Great thanks. So 1 less goal but 8 more assists through roughly the same time period. Guess to me it seemed like he was less productive point wise this year but thats not the case. Probably wont have the goal explosion like he did second half of last season but his assists will be very high. As much as it is fun to watch the bros play, always drawn to Breen's innate ability to create offense out of nothing. Fun dude to watch. Long live New Brunswick !!

Plus he is sticking up for both brothers.

Question of the day for you old timers. As much fun to watch Breen, Nadeau and Nadeau as it was to watch Kariya, Montgomery and Ingraham ?

I think so for the most part. The BNN line is really fun to watch in the open ice. KMI was a bit more creative....of course Kariya was a very special player. Josh Nadeau is a hybrid of Montgomery and Ingraham.....he is my favorite out of the current 3.

Not for me. “fun to watch” is the key difference, due to the flash and smoothness of Kariya plus he had eyes in the back of his head to find his linemates. Monty was the best “C” I’ve seen at Maine and Ingraham was one of the best crease players, regardless of size.
Definitely most fun to watch SINCE 92/93.

Watched some highlights from Saturday night. Taken as a whole, those were amazing goals we witnessed, including the SO. From Sully faking out the entire Colgate team and sniping it to Freel’s and Bradly’s “stop on a dime” scores plus Josh ONCE AGAIN using the one handed “where’s the puck” SO goal. All quality scores…

Im repeating myself here but l think its going to take outside $ to get Ben to where he needs to be and should be, assuming the team does well by year end and next year goes well. If they miss the garden or ncaa in this time then get him up to 300k until such then they need to go higher.

So, what you're saying here (and please correct me if I'm wrong) is that, if Barr (the proven winner), who has now proven he can turn around a nowhere program as a Head Coach and not just as an assistant, misses out via upset on either the HEA semis or qualifying for the NCAA's, that should be used against him, to "cool his jets" for a more significant raise, until he actually accomplishes these things he should be achieving this season, at some future date?!? And he should just sit there and accept it, even if he now knows the fair market value for his services in D-1 has probably already (at least) doubled since he signed his deal in Orono???

Loyalty is a two way street, and here we're talking about a guy who has not hesitated to move on from several prior stops, despite the rampant success that's always broken out in his wake. He came to UMaine because someone (no longer associated with the school) showed belief in him doing the big job, and he has delivered to exceed all expectations. If the current UMaine AD is thinking in any way along the lines you are, it will be a rude awakening when Barr finds more respect AND a bigger paycheck elsewhere, and takes his golden eggs with him.

You guys cannot sit idly by if/when UMaine decides to wrest defeat from the jaws of victory, all because of loopy half-baked logic that Barr needs to be "fair" to other USM employees, none of whom are drawing additional millions into the USM coffers due to their non-unique and easily replaceable talents in the classroom or elsewhere on campus ...

University of Maine athletic department receives an additional gift of $80 million from the Alfond Foundation. They must think the department is heading in the right direction.
