I still come back to the 5 minute major. Yes Cornell is big, yes they are physical, but if you put them down 2-0, 3-0, they have to spend their energy coming from behind. That was a huge squander. I will say that I'm glad it works for them, but Cornell's brand of hockey is awful. I'm not sure how well it's going to work against Denver.
Maine literally played right into their hands all game. They can't win street fight type hockey, mucking around. They need transition and speed.
One last night, I don't know what happened to Ostman. But I'm grateful for the good times he gave us, but he is done here. A couple of those goals last night were weak. Maine needs an elite goaltender. Is that Bojia?
All in all, I'd have to say the season is a success. Back to Boston, back to the NCAAs, filling the Alfond... that's where this program has needed to be. The next step is to make that the baseline expectation. Despite what the PWR said all year, this team was probably somewhere around 10th-12th in the country.
To me, the issues were the ability to break out of the defensive zone, not just on transition odd man rushes, but when Maine gets to the puck and disrupts possession. Too often it was stickhandling around in the defensive end only to lose possession. Whether it's some pug lugging defensemen, or more physical forwards who can force their way up the boards, it just felt like at times there were spells where Maine was stuck and stuck and stuck in their own zone. As has been mentioned, deepening the forward scoring depth has to be on the list. Obviously the Nadeaus and whoever centered them could score. Whoever was on the second line was generally fine. But there was just no expectation the third line would create much, and the 4th line was completely a non-factor.
But really, on schedule for the Barr regime. If the Nadeaus stick around, and there are some impactful recruits, let's do it again but a little better.
Someone asked Bradly if he was coming back and he said yes. I can't imagine he wouldn't based on his play this year. While impressive at times(as was Josh) it wasn't good enough to be NHL bound.
Just another reminder.......UMaine Sports Forum is a great site to talk UMaine Hockey and all other UM sports. Might be a good idea to sign up....just in case this forum goes away.

Anybody else hoping for a BC Cornell game? Ultimate speed team with the ultimate slow you down team. Kind of like Maine vs Lake State in 93.
As far as the forum is concerned, I can't get on here in the middle of the night with no games are being played. Maybe it’s is my provider, Spectrum? but USCHO hasn't updated the software in years. Maybe its not worth it as their is little hope for it to grow given that its a niche sport?
To follow up on the previous conversation, I thought Cornell played a great defensive game last night. The 5-minute major was a dumb mistake by an overeager freshman and Cornell got the 5-minute penalty it deserved. Other than that, I hope it was clear that Cornell is not a dirty team, despite what some jealous Colgate fans would have you believe. As I said before, I like Maine as a school/place and wish them the best of luck in the coming seasons.

It isn’t your provider. I get the same thing. Even first thing in the morning before most are up. Usually you are but most aren’t at 6 AM. And it still sucks.
I’m almost positive they downgraded their servers to 8 bit embedded microprocessors inside of some college kid’s smart refrigerator because the price was right.
It was a good game, and the deserving team won. As another poster said, I'd be in favor of a regular season series between these teams. I've heard Lynah is an incredible place to see a game so if I could get out there I'd love to visit.
Cornell played a great game. Congratulations. Will be cheering for them over Denver. I met some good Cornell fans at the game and they love their hockey team. They all made sure I knew they had 9 freshmen on their team so next year they will be even better. Maybe Maine can schedule Cornell two year home and away non conference series with any luck.
