UMaine Hockey 23 - 24: The Barr Crawl to Glory!!!

Someone asked Bradly if he was coming back and he said yes. I can't imagine he wouldn't based on his play this year. While impressive at times(as was Josh) it wasn't good enough to be NHL bound.

My guess is the traffic on ncaa tourney day is just a huge spike that bogs down/crashes it.

site wouldnt load for me Thursday night but its been fine all day Friday

I still come back to the 5 minute major. Yes Cornell is big, yes they are physical, but if you put them down 2-0, 3-0, they have to spend their energy coming from behind. That was a huge squander. I will say that I'm glad it works for them, but Cornell's brand of hockey is awful. I'm not sure how well it's going to work against Denver.

Maine literally played right into their hands all game. They can't win street fight type hockey, mucking around. They need transition and speed.

One last night, I don't know what happened to Ostman. But I'm grateful for the good times he gave us, but he is done here. A couple of those goals last night were weak. Maine needs an elite goaltender. Is that Bojia?

Yes indeed...that 5 minute that did not produced even 1 goal hurt...and this is hind sight and so early in the game...your right 2-0...or even 3-0 spells doom for Cornells game...but should Barr have called a time out before the major started...and put in the guys head...patience and the importance of getting at least one score....I well know it was early in the game...but why not...its one and done time.....thoughts anyone?

All in all, I'd have to say the season is a success. Back to Boston, back to the NCAAs, filling the Alfond... that's where this program has needed to be. The next step is to make that the baseline expectation. Despite what the PWR said all year, this team was probably somewhere around 10th-12th in the country.

To me, the issues were the ability to break out of the defensive zone, not just on transition odd man rushes, but when Maine gets to the puck and disrupts possession. Too often it was stickhandling around in the defensive end only to lose possession. Whether it's some pug lugging defensemen, or more physical forwards who can force their way up the boards, it just felt like at times there were spells where Maine was stuck and stuck and stuck in their own zone. As has been mentioned, deepening the forward scoring depth has to be on the list. Obviously the Nadeaus and whoever centered them could score. Whoever was on the second line was generally fine. But there was just no expectation the third line would create much, and the 4th line was completely a non-factor.

But really, on schedule for the Barr regime. If the Nadeaus stick around, and there are some impactful recruits, let's do it again but a little better.

Agree with most of this. There was no doubt Maine wasn’t a legitimate top five team. I do think the team as it was constructed at the end of the season had three decent lines.

The last bit of your post is where I see issues in the immediate term. I think there are some solid players lined up but don’t see anyone the caliber of the Nadeaus or Breen. I have more hope in the 06’s and 07’s but it’s going to be tricky bridging that gap. If everyone comes back next year Maine will be competitive again but they lose a ton after that.

He needs to get stronger.. and he should be Maine for 3 seasons...he has it made at Maine...practicing/2 games a weekend and family and friends around....remember Sweetland bolting and going from a promising recruit to kick to the side of the curb as a wannabe pro....nope...he needs conditioning...practice and several seasons of College hockey before the next level.

Anybody else hoping for a BC Cornell game? Ultimate speed team with the ultimate slow you down team. Kind of like Maine vs Lake State in 93.

As far as the forum is concerned, I can't get on here in the middle of the night with no games are being played. Maybe its my provider, Spectrum? but USCHO hasn't updated the software in years. Maybe its not worth it as their is little hope for it to grow given that its a niche sport?

To follow up on the previous conversation, I thought Cornell played a great defensive game last night. The 5-minute major was a dumb mistake by an overeager freshman and Cornell got the 5-minute penalty it deserved. Other than that, I hope it was clear that Cornell is not a dirty team, despite what some jealous Colgate fans would have you believe. As I said before, I like Maine as a school/place and wish them the best of luck in the coming seasons.

It isn’t your provider. I get the same thing. Even first thing in the morning before most are up. Usually you are but most aren’t at 6 AM. And it still sucks.

I’m almost positive they downgraded their servers to 8 bit embedded microprocessors inside of some college kid’s smart refrigerator because the price was right.

Cornell played a great game. Congratulations. Will be cheering for them over Denver. I met some good Cornell fans at the game and they love their hockey team. They all made sure I knew they had 9 freshmen on their team so next year they will be even better. Maybe Maine can schedule Cornell two year home and away non conference series with any luck.

It was a good game, and the deserving team won. As another poster said, I'd be in favor of a regular season series between these teams. I've heard Lynah is an incredible place to see a game so if I could get out there I'd love to visit.

BC leaving Michigan Tech into it. Perrault just tossed for hitting the head and a 5 minute major. MTech needs cash in here.

Didnt see any goon hockey out of cornell. Starting with the 5, if not on purpose, was ominous for the reputation, but as the game went on, no problems.
I thought Colgate was more chippy when in orono.

Good luck, hope they come home with the prize.

About right. They use to shut down a thread after so many posts, Presumed to save storage space, now they go on forever until someone decides to start a new one.
Maybe their IT person moved onto a paying job.

My heart sank when I saw Victor in net yesterday, and CU played perfectly once they got the lead.

And, yeah, go to Lynah if you can. Great old barn in a fun college town. Can be a tough ticket, though, so buy them early.

At least MTU knows how to chip it out of the zone, lot closer game than I thought it would be

I think Maine would be a great opponent for Cornell's Thanksgiving game at MSG in 2024, or any non-BU year. I'm sure Maine would bring a great fan presence to the Garden.
