Bite your tongue dude !

Every once in a while, the UMaine-iacs need to hear from someone outside the bubble with an objective take on an issue.

As always, I'm just here to help. Youze guys are still my second favorite program, after all ...

Here to help, yeh sure....think he's got a man crush on ya son, lol.

Decades ago he was a UNH assistant coach, and he brought some really good players in there.
Yep, well before his broadcast career his was an assistant to the Charlie Holt. Some players he helped bring in included Jamie Hislop, Gordie Clark (part of the infamous Hislop - Clark - Cox line), Cap Raeder and Rod Langway (as you well know Felgie). These guys may not be known by all here , but are legends at UNH.

His bias was pretty obvious at times, but I didn't mind too much. He was a good color guy, very knowledgeable, and loved the college game.

Yep, Bob most definitely had a UNH slant, but you're right, very knowledgeable. I don't mind a bit of homerism though. This past weekend the NESN broadcast for the UNH/RIT games had two of the RIT sports network guys calling it. Play-by-play and color was RIT focused, but they too were very knowledgeable and had obviously studied up on UNH. It's fun to hear a different perspective at times. Funny part of the broadcast was the last play of the game in OT. UNH gets a breakaway with only a few ticks left on the clock, RIT announcers last words "oh no it's Leclerc"! That was pretty comical, but spot on, as he didn't miss!

Now back to your regularly scheduled Black Bear talk!

There are many more scratches to come. It will be interesting how that strategy plays out long term.

Pretty sure that this happens to all programs...some leave, some later on pickups...I trust that Barr and Staff are always working on next year's roster players and roster players after that...and down the line ...recruiting is a every day job in keeping tabs on talent...keep winning, playing in the NCAA's...makes programs recruiting much easier to sell...they have to be on the ball on each recruiting class...one or two bad recruiting classes in a row can be devastating to smaller programs....margin of error is bigger Maine compared to BU/BC/Michigan/N.Dak./Minnesota.

Looks like the Bentley game in Portland is already a sellout (as is tonight's women's game vs. Indiana).....good sign for the program with strong support from the Portland metro area.

Bob Norton hated Maine

Once upon a time, Bob was UNH's version of Grant Standbrook. If Standbrook ever did TV color work, I'm sure his biases would eventually seep through as well. If you're emotionally invested, that's a tough spigot to shut off.

Ironically, the last times I've seen Bob were at a few professional (non-hockey) seminars a decade or so ago, but I doubt he's still active now in what he was doing then, as he's now 80 years old. Nice guy, salt of the earth.

His son Pat scored his only UNH goal in the final game ever played at Snively Arena in March 1994, on a deflection off his posterior IIRC? It was a HEA Quarterfinal game, so his dad may have been doing color for the game, which UNH won in double OT 7-6 in what was also BC HC Steve "Count" Cedorchuck's final game in charge at The Heights.

Those were the days, my friend ... we thought they'd never end ... as the song goes, anyway ...
