Still a bunch of us around thanks for asking. I didnt realize 4 games made up for 5 or 6 years of mediocre hockey but i guess if it does then so be it! I am just as happy for this team as anyone else but by no means am I ready to give Tim a contract extension!

Amen!

In 2010 Maine was a Gustav Nyquist empty net goal at UHN away from making the national tournament, and took eventual national champion BC to OT in the final of the Hockey East tournament. Last season Maine was still in the running on the final weekend before eventually finishing 3 spots out. It isn't like Maine has been horrible for a long time.

It's a shame I didn't head up to Orono last weekend to check out all of these recent moral victory banners. Could you post a picture of them next time you are in Alfond?

So just what has happened to TIMMAY over the past month to get his team playing like this?

Abbott gave him an ultimatum. Notice how all of the UM teams have started to win more recently. ;)

It is a shame...no one has ever swept BC and BU back to back. You could have seen part of history. :) The point of my little tale is not to expound on moral victories (let's leave that to our friends in Durham) but to express that Maine hasn't been as terrible as a few naysayers are pretending.

A little circle J?.........your own version of eagleaction.com?..........:rolleyes::rolleyes:
I guess 100 people would be pretty small given that there are hundreds of millions on the Interwebs.

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

No offense, but give me a break. Parker is a buffoon. We always knew this. Dropping an F Bomb to an official is one of the nicer things I've seen him do. And if you're really offended by it, I think it is time to get a grip.

Hey I have no rooting interest in this and I'll be the last one to defend JP's language. But it really was a bogus call with the game still on the line. First of all, it wasn't a slash or even an attempt to slash (even the CBS Sports crew questioned it, which is something they don't usually do). The only thing the ratdog player did was attempt to hook the stick to make it more difficult for the puck carrier to control the puck, which is a perfectly legitimate play. The other thing that bothered me was that Jeff Bunyon was the trail official, which placed him behind the play and screened from seeing exactly what happened by the player's bodies. To my knowledge, Kevin Keenan (the "deep" official on the other side of the ice) did not signal a penalty even though he would have had a clear view.

Usually, the "phantom" calls go in BU's favor. This time it didn't.

Yeah, those basketball teams are really tearing it up!

No offense, but Lowell isn't part of the Big 4. You won a season series against Maine. Congratulations. Here's a cookie. When Lowell spends three decades in the upper half of Hockey East come back and yap.

And Maine hasn't had five losing seasons. Maine had two losing seasons.

BTW, how many of you have sent Steve Abbott a letter asking him to exercise the buyout clause in Tim's contract?

Live in the past all you want. I didn't bring up a single past season because, and this is important, it has nothing to do with this year.

The speed at which Maine fans did a 180 on this team must have caused some extreme cases of whiplash. I hope you're all doing ok, and that none of you strain yourselves climbing back on the bandwagon.

Want a cookie?
What kind? Preferably chocolate chip, but Oreos will do. Nothing with walnuts, please. Oh, and a tall glass of milk, garçon.

Some of us never left the bandwagon. We're hoping those who did don't climb back on.

Lowell may win the Hockey East title. That doesn't make you part of the haves in Hockey East. Ask Providence and Northeastern fans - they'll tell you.

Professional sports allow for that, not college.

Perhaps someone can also post the mandatory announcement read in the arena before each NCAA hockey game that I call the "abuse of officials speech". Now I realize it is rarely enforced, but an obvious use of the f_word on a national broadcast of a college hockey game, directed by a head coach to an on-ice official, is beyond the pale.
Believe me go to any SEC-ACC FB or BB game and you hear it every other word on the bench sidelines and especially at the refs.....in "big money" college sports it's used more than no sir yes sir. Watch the highlights on ESPN everyday you see a coach player etc saying it out loud and often.....especially when calling the refs out....listen to umile he does it often....the deaf mute timmay who still needs to go doesn't say it because he usual doesn't know what just happened......glad the team is winning and playing Maine hockey but that doesn't change what needs to happen to timmay....

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

Why?........do you own the team?
No, that why I said "hoping" :) I have no control over whether people support the team or not.

People were giving Tim too much blame before and some are guilty of giving him too much credit now. I credit these players who always had it within them to do well, it just took them a while to find it.

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

This team just surprised me two weekends in a row and I am pumped. But, as a long time Maine fan (who despite not supporting the current coach, has always supported the team), I am little surprised about all the gloating by some Timmay supporters. Maine has done some great things since Thanksgiving, but unless we are UNH, I will judge the season by how we fair at the end, not on an 8 week hot streak. I hope for the best but the improved play and results certainly does not wipe the slate clean with Timmay.

I have sent my letter to Abbott and I stick by it. I used to think Timmay was a good guy, just in over his head. Ever since his interview in Novemberish where the line was drawn about not supporting him meant you were not a Maine fan completely changed my mind. I wish the team well and hope they continue to succeed. I just can not stand Tim Whitehead.

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

I wonder what his reaction would have been to the game at Alfond where everything on the BU bench that wasn't bolted down ended up on the ice in the late 80's/early 90's, including the wooden benches themselves. It's too bad video of that has never surfaced.

I remember a game when Parker was tossing water bottles on the ice at the Alfond. This was back around 1990 plus or minus a few year. It was funny to watch.

I was just looking at the scoring race and had a question. We have 9 games left for 34 total.

Minn Duluth has already played one more game than us and have 10 games remaining. So how is it fair for anyone in HE in the scoring race when they play 2 extra games??
