Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

Many of us, especially the more mature alumni, are convinced that parker made a deal with the devil somewhere during his career, and that certain referees were considered part of the bu hockey program.

Thanks for the fun you provided for all of us "Antiterriens"..
before you ask, NO, that is not one of my many pseudonyms... but I really like this guy!!!

Somebody needs to say it. The insufferable naysayers who have poisened this thread for months don't deserve a winning team.

What happened to all the "FIRE TIMMAY" whiners?

Still a bunch of us around thanks for asking. I didnt realize 4 games made up for 5 or 6 years of mediocre hockey but i guess if it does then so be it! I am just as happy for this team as anyone else but by no means am I ready to give Tim a contract extension!

Real Maine fans have another forum. I'd say where it is, but they'd turn up and poison that, too.

Professional sports allow for that, not college.

Perhaps someone can also post the mandatory announcement read in the arena before each NCAA hockey game that I call the "abuse of officials speech". Now I realize it is rarely enforced, but an obvious use of the f_word on a national broadcast of a college hockey game, directed by a head coach to an on-ice official, is beyond the pale.

Yo'k

I'll need to book a vacation then to fantasy land. This isn't the 1930s when negros had their own place.
This isn't Williams vs Amherst
We all realize that for all intents college "is" professional. You know the $$ tossed around.

And spare us your high pulpit. I don't recall any other HE school forfeiting games (unless you've found religion and are sharing the good word! :p)

Easy guy. I don't think he was calling out UML.
1. You lost to UVM

4th place for this team is very obtainable. The Abbott/Flynn/Diamond line tools on the lower half of Hockey East so I have high hopes for lots of points against Lowell,UMASS, and NU at the end of the season.

Nope, I'm pretty sure it was intended as written.

Yes, Lowell lost at Vermont. They also ran your show at Alfond. Enough of the "We're a different team now!" crap. Obviously Maine has improved as the season progressed. Guess what? So has Lowell. The comments about Lowell on this thread are hysterical. "I don't think they're as good as their record." "The book is still out on UML." Tell yourselves whatever it takes to sleep at night. They're not #3 in the PWR with 10 games left in the regular season because they're a feel good story.

Lowell is 6-1 at home and hasn't dropped a game at Tsongas since October. 7 of their last 10 games are at home. Lowell is two points back of Maine with the season series already won and 3 games in hand. It's great for the Maine fans that the rumors of your demise may have been premature. But don't start dismissing superior teams just because your guys put together a few wins.

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

I would hardly call a "slash" where the offender's stick made no contact with the other player "ticky-tack". Parker had every reason to go apeshiiit on Bunyon in that instance. Not the reason we lost, but a terrible piece of officiating.

Slashing
SECTION 47. a. A player shall not slash an opponent with the stick. Slashing includes all cases where a slashing gesture is made regardless of whether contact occurs.

I'm glad you continue to show everyone how much of an expert you are of this game of hockey. Freep hockey people rule!!!!!!

No offense, but give me a break. Parker is a buffoon. We always knew this. Dropping an F Bomb to an official is one of the nicer things I've seen him do. And if you're really offended by it, I think it is time to get a grip.

I wonder what his reaction would have been to the game at Alfond where everything on the BU bench that wasn't bolted down ended up on the ice in the late 80's/early 90's, including the wooden benches themselves. It's too bad video of that has never surfaced.

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

So just what has happened to TIMMAY over the past month to get his team playing like this? And if they can play like this, as they are demonstrating, then why don't they play like this on a consistent basis? Why do we have to sit through terrible play and losing to weaker teams year after year?

I don't know what the answer is, but I'm sure a lot of it is due to the heat TIMMAY's feeling about his job security, in part thanks to a lot of the 'insufferable naysayers' on here. And no, four games does not make up for five seasons of fultility and inept play.

Based on this performance, there's not a game they should lose for the rest of the season. Let's just wait and see how long they retain these "lessons learned".

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

At the end of the day, though, it should be a bright line on whether Timmy comes back or not: did they make the NCAA's? If yes, bring him back (no extension, obviously, Blake took care of that), if no, seeya later.

There's a lot more parity in the sport than there was in the Walsh era, at this point once you make the NCAAs you basically have the same chip and a chair that every other team has in the tournament. If Timmy turns out to be the guy to just get them in the tourney on a yearly basis, I'm fine with that.

Not the reason we lost, but a terrible piece of officiating. He sometimes makes anticipatory calls based on what the offender will likely do in a scenario, not on what the supposed offender actually does.

The play happened right in front of us (Sec 104, Row D). Up close and personal. Very clearly a slash.

two weekends of success is sure breading a lot contempt 'round these parts.

Tried to rep this but can't, so apologies to everyone else who has to read it.

For the last freaking time, discussing the team in an honest and forthright manner does not mean people are not "real" fans.

We're still here! See, this goes much deeper than the current run (which is AWESOME!).......you don't turn around mediocre recruiting, non-existent goal tender coaching, and erase 5 years of futility with 2 weekend sweeps. What I think Tim has earned from Maine fans is a little respect and support from us for the rest of THIS season. Let's see how this all ends. If he can get Maine into the NCAAs and wins a game or 2........I will admit that we should not (and will not) be fired after this season. However, he has 2 more years left (after this one) on his contract.......definitely NO contract extension after this season no matter WHAT happens! He'll have next season to prove if he can continue this recent success over the long haul. :)

No offense, but Lowell isn't part of the Big 4. You won a season series against Maine. Congratulations. Here's a cookie. When Lowell spends three decades in the upper half of Hockey East come back and yap.

And Maine hasn't had five losing seasons. Maine had two losing seasons. In 2010 Maine was a Gustav Nyquist empty net goal at UHN away from making the national tournament, and took eventual national champion BC to OT in the final of the Hockey East tournament. Last season Maine was still in the running on the final weekend before eventually finishing 3 spots out. It isn't like Maine has been horrible for a long time.

BTW, how many of you have sent Steve Abbott a letter asking him to exercise the buyout clause in Tim's contract?

Sure, but that's not what a lot of people here have been doing. Or would you say hoping Maine loses games is now the measure of a "real" fan?
