From diving to f_ ing.
Woohoo... the Maine boys had a really fun weekend! :p

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

This league needs Maine to be a good team and in the Garden in March,IMO...........sweeping BC and BU on consecutive weekends is really quite an accomplishment especially considering both teams were top 5 (and you weren't top 15) at the time you played 'em

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

How much fun is it to sweep BC and then BU on consecutive weekends?:) As much fun as it was for me to see all 4 it has got to be so much more fun for the guys! And the two big question marks going into the season, and early in the season, goaltending and scoring depth were on display in all 4 games. This team is playing more confidently because they have confidence in Sullivan, and it is also evident that since the revamped line-up the second night at Merrimac Tim found the right combinations.

To see guys like Mangene, Parker, Higgins and Swavely either emerge, or get critical minutes at the end of games and deliver is promising. I think Parker is the real deal after watching his physical play and finishing abilities. Just took some confidence. Can ill afford any let downs as the team chasing Maine, (Lowell and Merrimac) hold the season series edge. Would have been nice if UHN could have knocked off BC at least once this weekend as we now own the tie-breaker on both BU and BC.

Very proud of the effort and for this team. Sullivan know doubt will be the HE Goalie of the week.

Great weekend. Winning at BU twice is huge. Congrats to the Black Bears, great road effort.

Did someone really compare Timmay to Tom Coughlin earlier? Wow. Could they be more different? I realize being a Giants fan in New England puts me in a minority but I watch a lot of Maine hockey games and Giants games. Two totally different people, one of which has won championship and has re-built a franchise, twice. The other, not so much.

Did Coughlins teams suck for 5 years?

The Giants have struggled and haven't been very good for 4 years (since winning the Super Bowl in 2008). The Giants lost 4 straight games this season and lost twice to the lowly Washington Redskins.

How many times in 5 years have they missed the playoffs?

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

The comparison between Coughlin and Timmay is absurd. There are so many differences I am not sure where to start.

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

And all you Maineiacs who were screaming for Whitehead's scalp just a couple of weeks ago can line up next to all those New Yawkahs who were screaming for Coughlin's scalp at the same time.

I read that as comparing the Maine and Giants fan bases, not the coaches.
But then, my reading comprehension skills ain't what they used to be.

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

That's a rhetorical question. You already know the answer to that.;)
Seeing as Coughlin has his team in the championship game twice in that span and Timmay can't even get in the playoffs, its a little different and a bad analogy.

I don't wish to dwell on this, but it's not true that Maine hasn't been in the playoffs during this time. Maine was in the Hockey East Championship game against BC 3 years ago and the Giants haven't been in the playoffs for 3 years.

Um, BobF, a little respect please for a team that took the season series from Maine... it is MerrimacK, with a "K". Thanks.;)

Nice to see the Black Bears back!

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

Good win for Maine last night. A win tonight would be truly unexpected and would prove this team may be the real deal. Looking at the last few years, a BU blowout tonight wouldn't be a surprise but let's hope coach Whitehead has learned some lessons and doesnt let that happen as he fights for his carreer.

4th place for this team is very obtainable. The Abbott/Flynn/Diamond line tools on the lower half of Hockey East so I have high hopes for lots of points against Lowell,UMASS, and NU at the end of the season.

Maybe my trip to the garden will be worth it this year?

(knocking on wood as I type)

Also, Timmy's power play units continue to impress at over 30% effectiveness, can't take that away from him (short of shorties against).

1. You have 1 game left against Lowell.
2. They swept you in Orono, in case you forgot.
3. Calling the #3 team in the PWR "lower half of Hockey East" makes you look like an idiot.

Other than that, solid post.

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

Professional sports allow for that, not college.

Perhaps someone can also post the mandatory announcement read in the arena before each NCAA hockey game that I call the "abuse of officials speech". Now I realize it is rarely enforced, but an obvious use of the f_word on a national broadcast of a college hockey game, directed by a head coach to an on-ice official, is beyond the pale.

Oh my good lord god almighty! Will you please ****!! 24/7 is a big hit with all the "f this" "f that" and "f you". I hear people yelling at refs and saying f in football!!! No kids will ever play football again!!! Don't get out of the dugout again mr manager!!!! Respect the umpire! Don't say f!!!

No doubt about it, Lowell has had a great season so far. They have also had some very impressive wins over quality opponents. However, I don't think they are as good as their record. Also, Maine was a different team in November.

If UML can get through Feb. 10 - Feb 25 with more than 4 points I will agree with you that I sound like an idiot.

let me know what Bertagna says in response to your letter about this.

and FINALLY... I get my wish... a couple games at the Jack Parker rink in the EggAnus arena that is not called entirely in Jackie's favor

Easy guy. I don't think he was calling out UML.
1. You lost to UVM

Re: UMaine - 2011-2012 Season Thread (cont) - Beating Back the Internuts ?

All that and humble, too. Be careful with this "everyone" crap.

Maine will finish the night at #11 in the pairwise whatever happens in Alaska.

my goodness... talking to yourself is one thing... but telling yourself to be careful with the "everyone crap"
YOU are unanimous in your support of Whitehead, we get it.
