UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Gophers played a good road game tonight. The Huskies came out fast in the first and had quite a few chances. The Gophers weathered that initial storm and went to work. They pretty much wore SCSU down and pulled away in the 3rd. They flat out worked the Huskies and eared the win. Over all pretty good game.

Schmidt had one hell of a shot off the inside of the pipe to beat Faragher. Faragher challenged the shot well and Nate put it exactly where he needed to beat him.

Too many of SCSU's big guns were held quiet. Great defensive effort by the ground squirrels.

Did I mentioned Wilcox is an ok goalie?

I expect the Gophers to sweep because I think we're a much better team, period. It has nothing to do with thinking the Gophs or any team is "unbeatable". SCSU being the "first place team in the conference" is irrelevant at this point. The season isn't over yet.

Well, C Monster, I am not putting you on Brenthoven's level because he has been here for a long time. How can you know if the Gophers are good enough to sweep before they play? Especially with the Gophers having one conference sweep, which was at home, against UAA.

WHOA. Even WITH "tArrogance" I expected 2 points! I'm honored that I have a "level," but c'mon man! :p

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Some thoughts as I get through my first chance to watch the game here in the first:

-First wave off was a no-brainer
-As a fan of skilled hockey SCSU is fun to watch
-Love seeing the Gophers approach a Fri game like it matters
-SCSU is a team with skill that likes to hit, not afraid to take a hit, but unlike another team out there doesn't play ******y as in look for the cheap hit and doesn't overreact just because the other team had a solid check
-I slyly asked about SCSU's 4th line and so far as I suspected the Gophers have the better one
-That said keep the puck away from the rest of them
-The second wave off was horsepoop
-Love the Gophers grit that they did not have during the four year black hole

I obviously know the outcome and have two periods to watch, but Gophers better be ready for tomorrow night

It may not be the best kept secret, but I'm not a big fan of the rodents.

Despite that, I expected them to get 4 this weekend and I still do. Call it a hunch.

They've got the look. They've got the right balance of upperclassmen and a hot goaltender. Tonight was the start of their run.

Many more sweeps are on the way.

I'm hoping to wake from this nightmare, but I've been pulling out nut hairs all night to test if I was awake or not and each one hurt.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

I thought we played the top two lines too much. It was evident in the 4 on 4. Both Jensen and Hano looked gassed and Schmidt was fresh. I would have rather had Milan's energy than Holka tonight. We shot a lot wide and high tonight and passed on a lot of good looks in the slot. I thought the second no goal was obvious, Rau obstructed Faragher and even pushed him back when Budish scored. Last I checked you can not obstruct the goalie in the crease.

I thought Hano and Benik could have played more pressure D instead of laying back.

I thought the 4th line did fine tonight (Bertsch, Rehkamp and Holka cycled quite a bit in their end but didn't generate many quality chances off of it). The third line too (Thorson and Morley) except for Benik with no pressure D.

More paint thinner may help ease the pain Gurt.

I've heard many Wisconsinites swear by the old provincial remedy of deer saliva for that kind of sting. Might be worth a shot.

I appreciate the concern. Warms my heart and makes me believe that someday we'll all live in hockey harmony together. :)

But don't you trouble yourselves over little ol' me. I got a plan.

Upset at the regionals followed by early departures. Problem(s) solved.

That's what I'm clinging to.

As far as medicating in the meantime, I'm on crutches right now, and no Koho, not from the nut hairs, from a hockey injury and I've got vikes for that. Your win tonight barely registered. I'm good. :)

I hope you are wrong but they did look that good. Still two halves two a series. I knew the Gophers were capable of sweeping, just thought and still think scsu has some say in it.
