UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Well, our back's up against the wall. Need 2 points tomorrow, I don't think they can afford to be up by just 3 with the Gophers with 2 games in hand and the tiebreaker. Gotta come away with the W, but at home against UND, on the road in Duluth and at home against UNO they lost the first game and needed to come back and win Saturday to even the series, and did each time.

Let's get it done.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

FYP. I'll give you the second one, but that first one was the correct call.

1st no goal: good.
2nd no goal: utter horsesh*.

MN got the deserved 2 points tonight.

In all seriousness, I thought the first waved off goal was a no-brainer and they got it right. Tender's helmet came off before the puck was shot, and the whistle needs to be blown immediately in that situation.
The second waved off goal was a bit stickier. It really was a judgement call. I'm sure it will be debated ad nauseam, but bottom line is that at the end of the day it didn't matter.

For all the talk about how great St. Cloud is defensively, I think that is where MN really outshone the Huskies tonight. Which isn't to say St. Cloud played bad "D", just that MN was really committed to a strong team defense tonight.
St. Cloud didn't look really good except for some periodic 1-2 shift bursts throughout the game. I give a lot of credit to MN for that.

Also, anyone want to retract their statement about Jensen/Schmidt? :p

Pretty much this.... The first wave-off of a Budish goal was definitely correct. I may not agree with the rule, but the rule is pretty clear that the play should be blown dead as soon as a helmet pops off.

The second Budish wave-off was just incredibly bad... no reason to call that a no-goal. But in the end, it doesn't even matter ;)

All around good effort by the Gophs tonight... especially on Defense. They had a couple complete breakdowns on D, one of which led to a goal, but the defensive effort really did show for the majority of the game.

And, of course, the Gopher women win again :D Outscoring their opponents 163-24 on the season.... just... WOW

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Jensen is good. I freely admit that. Schmidt? Let's just say I've now found his first name isn't "GODDAMMIT."

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Let's ask posters that aren't fans of either school. Because all the neutral fans I have seen would pick Jensen.

I'm totally neutral. They'd be the 4th pairing on the Badgers. Scout team.

Not tonight, why?

Because there are people on there that apparently expect to win every game. Scsu didn't look as good tonight as they usually do, but to expect a sweep on the road against the first place team in the conference, to me seems like they are unbeatable.

Just a matter of hours.

Agreed, brilliant shut down hockey by the Golden Gopher D tonight (Grade: A). Schmidty was the game changer and I would rank him up there historically with guys like Ballard, Martin and maybe even Leopold. Gotta love his NHL caliber shot...there are few blistering missiles like it in the NCAA. I thought Mark Alt played heads up D tonight, Helgy played his gritty style and Mike Reilly really elevated his game with some excellent puck movement. That translated into Hanowski and Lablanc going -3 tonight.

Wilcox was his stellar self again tonight with a game changing save on the breakaway in the third (Grade: A). Fourth straight W over the SCSU. The Gopher D needs to continue to box out tomorrow night so we can break out the brooms.

Go Gophers :)

I think scoring first will be a huge plus for the Gophers as it would help to take the raucous crowd out of the game and they've shown a great ability to hold onto leads, yet they are totally capable of coming from behind as well. SCSU also has shown the ability to overcome multiple goal deficits.

I think tonight will be the lower scoring of the two games with Wilcox coming up huge in a Gopher victory. Tomorrow is anyone's guess, but I see it as being quite a few goals being scores. I just think the Gophers want it more in my.

*Cough Cough...who said that?!

Is St. Cloud State the best team we've played: LOL No!

Are they unbeatable: Hahahaha...

I'm a major poster on there (The Rube), and I expected 2 points minimum. If we only got two points? That would have been acceptable. Sure, disappointing, but acceptable.

Good recap.

Only thing missing was the grade on mama Schmidt's pre-game meal (Grade:A)

I expect the Gophers to sweep because I think we're a much better team, period. It has nothing to do with thinking the Gophs or any team is "unbeatable". SCSU being the "first place team in the conference" is irrelevant at this point. The season isn't over yet.

Yeah, I am not saying everybody. I think knowledgable fans of even the #1 team would expect 2 and the rest is gravy.
