UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Took a slapper in the ankle while playing Tuesday night. Three fractures.

Not really what I'd call "painful," but annoyingly uncomfortable. I'm hating having to use crutches and wear the boot.

Been fortunate that this is my first fracture or break in nearly 35 years of playing. Have had other injuries of course, but nothing that required more than rest and rehab.

Out 4-6 including on-ice coaching. Hope everyone can get by without me.:p

No check, no slapshot in my group! The aches increase every year, but have been lucky (knock on fake wood desk) to avoid something like that. I think the worst was when I think I popped a couple ribs out. Felt like a spear through the chest. Limited my turning and made putting skates on and off tough. Still played (stuck with D) and in 2nd game, got knocked flat on my back cause I couldn't manouever. Hurt like hell in the ribs for about a minute, then pain subsided and ribs seemed to have been knocked back in by fall as all I felt was some soreness but regained mobility. Had a few other issues that were just nagging (knee, shoulder), but eventually went away in the summer (stopped playing any summer hockey). Good luck getting back on the skates.

(Don't know why I went through all of that other than I am procrastinating form weekend chores and hiding from wife,)

Sucks man. Had the same injury when I was younger. Hope you have a speedy recovery.

Well then here's to an extra speedy recovery.

Thanks!

Yeah, dude was about 5 feet from me and we were about 10 feet from the net. Tried to blast it through me. Dumb. I certainly wouldn't do that.

I didn't realize how bad it was till the next shift when I jumped on the ice and went down when my ankle couldn't support me.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Agreed. Getting a short clear is better than turning the puck over in your own zone.

Agreed, if you get the short clear. I didn't say that, BLIND anything, whether it's passes or clears is just dumb hockey, take the "extra second" and "look" first. You should eat it before just randomly clearing it. Look at Stoner thurs night. The problem was Minnesota was keeping it in at the half boards and the point because they were BLIND clears. I call it dumb hockey unless you really like to have a workout and being really tired before getting a line change. What's wrong with freezing it on the boards or getting a goalie cover? You get a whistle, a rest and or a change. Blind anything is just dumb hockey.
10 year olds can freeze the puck between their skates along the boards and it is pretty hard to get it away.
I also think we need a couple more players who can lift the team late. Hano has done it in the past. Murray almost had it last night. I still think it had a lot to do with tired legs, a Rehkamp or Morley(speed) late would have been good.

Gophers played well last night and deserved the win. Congrats.

If Huskies win tonight, no harm no foul. The lead will be back to 5 points, and I really like our chances to win the MacNaughton.

Pressure is now on us, lets see how we respond at home.

Sucks to say but if Goofers win, I believe they will win the cup.

HUGE GAME TONIGHT.

Ouch!
When I was a bantam we were doing a breakout drill and I made the mistake of skating in front of the coach as he was winding up for a boomer from the redline - I was pretty much on the blue line. My coach was a Olympian/NHL player and could really bring it, I went up and down like a sniper got me.....bad bruise and still not sure how it didn't break, especially considering the flimsy skated of the early 80s. To this day we still laugh about it....but it hurt like hell. :)

Game talk - MN played really good team D last night and for the most part kept SCSU to the perimeter.
Key to MN winning tonight is staying out of the box, SCSU really has a nice PP and MN was fortunate to only give up one PP goal.

When I was a bantam I took a slap shot off the top of the skate. Like a true hockey player I tried to play with it until a whistle (we were in our own zone)...no dice. Couldn't put any weight on it whatsoever. Doctor was surprised I didn't break my foot. Luckily we were at West Side/West End so it was cold enough in there I didn't need ice until I got home. Only missed 3/4 days.

I think you are wrong! The key to winning again tonight is scoring more goals (that count) than SCSU.

Re: UM @ SCSU: Everything this series should be

Gophs looked great last night.

Huskies had their moments but just couldn't skate with the Gophs at the end, I agree with another poster it seemed Leblanc and Hano were out there every other shift.

Hoping the Huskies come out with the win tonight but if the Gophs play a great game like they did last night it may not be happy weekend for us Husky fans.

Heading up to McDugout's right now but first a pit stop at Val's, I'll see some of you up there this afternoon. :D
